Honestly can’t remember the last time we did anything other than get a take away an play games on New Year’s Eve! What’s your plans? Are you looking forward to them? Xx

Taxiing the grown up kids apparently. I'll have a few drinks on New Year's Day evening instead I think.

MrsPringledusts · 29/12/2024 16:55

Nothing. DH was usually on call on 1st Jan, so always stayed home, but our poor greyhound is terrified by the fireworks so will be keeping her calm. I've never liked NYE, nor understood the hysteria around it. On a plus point, it's always good for an early morning walk round the village, looking for dropped cash!

SpicyMarge · 29/12/2024 17:00

I’m not a big NY fan- it always makes me feel a bit melancholy and sad.

I’ll be working on the 31st but hoping to finish early, then going to make a nice dinner and open a bottle of wine to go with it.

Never make a fuss at midnight. Always feels like you struggle to get through the year and then, bam, you’re back to the start again.
Plus, we had a difficult bereavement last year and moving into another year where that wasn’t person doesn’t exist is hard.

Godfreydahling · 29/12/2024 17:12

I find it sad and scary too. When I was a child my abusive Dad would always be in a bad mood and make it a really difficult time and I've found it hard to shake off that feeling for the rest of my life.

confusednana · 29/12/2024 17:16

its our wedding anniversary, we went away last year, but this year it'll be a quiet one at home. we have a table booked locally and have offered babysitting to anyone who might want it, but thats it, we shall probably be tucked up in bed well before midnight

PlumpHobbit · 29/12/2024 17:18

It just me and DH, and will do what we usually do - takeaway and staying in watching a film or something on the tv!

Can't stand how busy and expensive everywhere is, plus we have cats. Although they aren't usually bothered by fireworks, people round here like and excuse to set them off, so I'd rather be at home just in case, especially as one year we found the remains of one in the garden

I'm also pregnant and have no intention of going anywhere, even less intention if this bastarding cold refuses to go away

We've got friends coming with their kids. We'll have raclette (which ex used to hate, which is why I picked it), do some little fireworks for the kids when it gets dark (they are 8, 8, 5, 1 and 5 months) and light the fire outside. They'll most likely leave by 10 or 11pm.
I'll have the hot tub on and, if DS is still awake, we'll enjoy a late night paddle and watch the fireworks at midnight. DD will be wrapped up warm and can sleep in the pushchair.
It's the first NYE without his dad and we used to just go to bed. I have no clue what he's planning this year. Perhaps going out with the OW...since he's on a trip to recover his lost youth...

Have a lovely evening and I hope 2025 is good to you x

Dh and I are supervising a house party for 15, 13 yr olds who want to have a first grown up (!!!) NYE party...I shall gladly fall into bed at the first opportunity! They are having pizza and movies.then a pamper session then outside to toast marshmallows and eat piping hot jacket spuds round the fire pit to see in the new year! then they will be out in the garden watching all the neighbours fireworks. If I can get them all in bed by 1 am I will be happy. Then NYD its breakfast n parents arriving to pick up by lunchtime.

Edited

Good grief OP 15 13 year olds - may the force be with you!

Have fun! (& wine lol)

HorrorFan81 · 29/12/2024 17:42

We have a long standing tradition of going round to our good friends (both have 2 kids each), the kids play and eat pizza, we have lots of prosecco and sushi, play some games, ring in the new year, maybe do some dancing 🕺 😀. Really enjoy it

iknowwhatyoudid · 29/12/2024 18:06

Partner on nights, so taking DS13 and DS8 to the cinema to watch Sonic 3, then KFC for dinner (New Years Eve tradition in our house!). I will try and stay awake to see in the new year, but it's likely to not happen!

toomuchfaff · 29/12/2024 18:23

We go away every year as my birthday is the 2nd Jan, this year we will be waltzing in the new year in the streets of Vienna at the new years festival.

Spent too many NYE indecisive, so now it's mine and his time, just the 2 of us in faraway (cold and Christmas'y place)

BIossomtoes · 29/12/2024 18:26

Takeaway, film or TV, bottle of fizz for me and elderflower fizz for him, quite possibly in bed before midnight.

heidihigh · 29/12/2024 18:30

Just me and DP at home, few nibbles, couple of ciders and maybe some board games. Most definitely be asleep before midnight. Our idea of a great night these days Wink

KStockHERO · 29/12/2024 18:35

It's just a usual night for us. We'll be in bed for 10pm so that the dog is well-settled before selfish cunts start with the fireworks.

I'll spend midnight comforting the dog who's been woken by fireworks and worrying about all the homeless people, homeless animals, wildlife who can't escape the terrifying noise.

Rocknrollstar · 29/12/2024 19:07

We have friends coming for tea. she is a very poorly invalid. We used to go out for dinner with them on NYE. Once they leave we will be on our own and will watch a movie. DD wanted to take me out for dinner and dancing (she is fed up with what she does on NYE too) but I didn’t think I could leave DH on his own.

ChimpyChops · 29/12/2024 19:22

Working until 8.30pm and then home to my pyjamas and Big Ben.

Love NYE!

ShodAndShadySenators · 29/12/2024 19:44

We'll have our usual Scrabble tournament which DH will most likely win, with a bottle of fizz and pre-recorded programmes on the TV - "live" TV on NYE is always awful and not what we'd want to watch. Then we'll watch the fireworks at midnight and go to bed afterwards. We used to go out to a lovely local pub pre-DS but haven't done that for years.

It's my DM's birthday on NYD so we'll have to go out for that.

notwittywithusernames · 29/12/2024 20:38

I'll be working until the afternoon, pick up toddler from childcare. Wrestle the bundle into bed after dinner and bath and then up for work New Year's Day

BillyAndTheSillies · 29/12/2024 21:09

Heading to the in-laws for a dinner party, there'll be about 20 of us. We used to do a pretend countdown at around 8:30 with previous years countdowns/fireworks on YouTube and then put the kids to bed but this year we will let them stay up if they want to, they've still got a week until they go back to school so plenty of time to lounge around and recover from a late night.

RubiesandRose · 29/12/2024 21:09

DH and I had our perfect NYE last year so we are replicating it again this year!

All our kids are grown up and have either left home or doing their own thing with partners/friends.

We get dressed up and get an early lift into town (around 6pm) and to the pub we first met in for a couple of drinks, it's normally quiet at that time and we enjoy the festive tree and lights with a glass of of bubbly and reflect on our past year and our plans for the year ahead.

At 7pm we are at the local Thai restaurant for a delicious meal and a few cocktails. An 8.30pm stroll to the taxi rank and we are home by 9pm. PJ's on, TV or music on, tree lights on and we go to bed when we feel like it, no pressure to stay awake until 12, although we did do last year because we ended up chatting until the early hours.

It was just so chilled and fun last year, we've decided to make it our new NYE tradition.

bostonchamps · 29/12/2024 22:44

@Nikitaspearlearring I mean...yes, maybe?! I don't really understand why you would just be killing time around people you're supposed to like. My friends have supported me through huge highs and huge highs, across all aspects of life, and I value spending time with them in all capacities. I find it quite sad you just see it as a tick box exercise (or at least you describe it as a tick box exercise)

pinkstripeycat · 29/12/2024 22:47

DH is a police officer and working. I’m always scared something bad will happen because of how nasty people get when they’re out on NYE.

DS19 is at a friend’s party. Me and DS17 will be at home watching everyone else’s fireworks. I want to go to bed but always feel I’ll miss something. After 53 NY eves you’d think I’d have realised by now that I won’t 😂

Barney16 · 29/12/2024 23:10

I'm working all day so it will be low key because I will be tired. So cinema at tea time, then home, M and S bits, bottle of fizz, watch a film, go to bed.

Eggseggslegs · 29/12/2024 23:17

PARTY!!!! Like every year!!! Such a relief to get Xmas out of the way that it's my turn to relax and have fun!!!

Middlemarch123 · 29/12/2024 23:18

Cuddles with cats who hate the inevitable fireworks.
I don’t like New Year, but I won’t be sad to say goodbye to this year, my mum died in April.
Will treat it as a normal day, and raise a glass to my dear mum and dad, who I miss.
Here’s to a brighter future for us all x
