DH is a Freemason and it makes me cringe

He takes it so seriously. He's always gone through hobby phases but he's done this for years now and takes it very seriously. He's currently on the phone discussing 'Bretheryn' and it gives me the major ick, I actually want to cry listening to it.

I've tried to stand by him as he takes it so seriously so i attend events and smile encouragingly but I can't bear it. Never knew when I married him that he wanted to do this. It's not the worst thing he could do of course but it's an old boys club and we're only in our 30s!

He has lots of friends and other hobbies so it's not even his only social outlet, no idea why he needs this in his life and treats it like a second job.

Ive always thought the fundraising for charity, whilst very commendable, seems like a front to hide the cliquey back handers these men like to get from each other and the likes of high ranking police officers mentioned above...what do they need covered up???

NewspaperTaxis · 29/12/2024 08:28

Is it true that women can become masons?

On the bus from Epsom Surrey to Kingston, when I get to Surbiton and the steep hill descending into Kingston, on the right I see a freemasons' office next to a school that promotes itself as for women and men freemasons.

Lavenderblue11 · 29/12/2024 08:31

It's Boy Scouts for grown men, mahoosive ick 🤮

NewspaperTaxis · 29/12/2024 08:32

Again, charity work is very often a front, but then many charities today have bullying aspects or are home to trafficking, there was an expose on many charities that work overseas a few years ago, it's all gone quite on that front now.

It's like The Church - the idea is, you just can't question it.

I think it can be used as a sort of misdirection tactic or penance for those in dodgy organisations. That said, not always of course. But the charity work does help the Masons to justify their existence, useful given that otherwise it is very hard to justify.

ssd · 29/12/2024 08:39

Everyone saying oh my dad/grandad was a mason, they were lovely and helped us out a lot.....are conveniently ignoring the anti Catholic, anti jewish, anti women, anti black aspect of it all...
Basically if you are a white anglo saxon protestant you will be welcomed but anyone else can eff off...and dont worry if you are in a spot of bother, a pat on the back and a secret masonic handshake will sort it out

90sFilms · 29/12/2024 08:42

The one thing I've learned about this thread is that those who aren't FMs apparently know what they do, what they're about, how it works... more than anyone who's actually a FM 😅

Curious 🧐

NewspaperTaxis · 29/12/2024 08:45

My grandfather was a Mason and in the police. He joined because he thought he would get something out of it career wise, He didn't much, he got passed over for promotion - I think it had its limits! That said, the idea was that back then, I've been told, the Catholics had a strong lobbying base in other areas of life, and freemasonry was a useful career counterbalance.

I've a theory that the police are prone to the masons because unlike other areas of public life, they don't have that set of academic qualifications that allow you to pre-emptively set yourself above your fellow citizens, like say the medical profession or the judiciary, you don't get those letters after your name. The police have to feel they are superior to the riff riff to lord it over them, also it can be an unpredictable world you're faced with as a police officer, so you may be more prone to reassuring rituals to deal with it.

It is funny when you hear about the freemasons secretly ruling the world, while others think it's the Jews - but the two are mutually exclusive, so it can't be both!

LadyTiredWinterBottom2 · 27/12/2024 15:51

Because it's secretive and probably misogynistic and don't they all 'help' each other - who you know sort of thing? Not meritocracy.

Exactly my thoughts on the FM's. Can't bear them

It’s too personal for details but eventually he committed suicide
its a secret society, conducting secret sacrifices and rituals... It ican be quite dangerous to have a freemason around..Of course this varies from lodge to lodge.

Suicide seems to be a common way for them to die. Are they terrified of something, or is it impossible for them to escape at that point?

cpjve · 29/12/2024 09:08

MrsScarecrow · 29/12/2024 07:50

How did you know they were Freemasons? Did they advertise it/tell you? Pure speculation. I've seen lots of people promoted above their capabilities, usually those talk b.......s.

It was well known. Plus, I used to sometimes travel to branches with one of the general managers who spoke to me about it, despite being a Freemason himself and a member of a local lodge at which he arranged a Christmas function.

Exactly. All these people saying that they were “asked to join” is simply not the way masonry works.

I've read so many times on this thread how a DH was invited to join. At that point I know they haven't a clue...

Ah, I see you get promoted at a young age, I bet there were plenty of (I assume false) that you slept your way to promotion too. These types of rumours of sexual promiscuity, Freemasonry etc leading to unfair treatment are rife when people are jealous.

So are they basically the male adult version of Brownies?

More the version of the W.I

AnarchismUK · 29/12/2024 09:20

My family has been involved in Masonry for several generations. DH is a past master. I've never heard of a case of suicide in any of the local lodges.
I'd expect it to happen because men do choose to end their lives that way. I've also heard some absolute bollocks spouted on this thread but the link to suicide is something I've never heard before.
I do know cases where private mental health treatment was paid for.
I'm also not sure where the racism charge comes from. That isn't my experience either.

Lol! Your party line seems to be the same in your replies...'Can you provide evidence? '. I was waiting for you to say that, and it's coming across childish and low IQ-like.

It's a bloody secret society, where they are sworn to secrecy and to protect one another. Even if they want to disclose what goes on, they can't.

Please don't engage with me further on this thread. I want to focus on genuine posters. Thanking you.

TrtseHkpr · 29/12/2024 09:23

My ex was a freemason, he left as it was getting very expensive and time consuming. His 'brethryn' were constantly on the phone, pestering him to do things and it didn't fit in with his employment (they didn't allow Freemasons to work there, and viewed them as very dodgy).

I've read so many times on this thread how a DH was invited to join. At that point I know they haven't a clue...

But don’t you know their DH/DF/DB are so special the evil men are desperate to get them into their clutches to advance world domination. Luckily their loved one is so amazing the managed to escape being dragged into a lifetime of chicken dinners and charity work and world domination -Close call that one.

I never knew Mumsnet was so full of gullible conspiracy theorists until I read this thread. Apparently some of us speaking reason are sleeper cell FM PR people, lying dormant here for years, discussing kids TV, celebrity Big Brother and the cheapest place to acquire kids uniform waiting for this thread to appear so we can spring into action. I apparently, according to one poster have been masquerading as female all this time too. It’s absolutely hilarious

Lol. Who knows asking for evidence was “childish and low IQ- like”. If you say something like “they’re more likely to commit suicide” how do you know? Either you have seen evidence of this or you are making it up? It really is that black and white. FM really isn’t that secretive you know?

I assume when ypu say “genuine posters” you mean your fellow conspiracy theorists who similarly find the concept of evidence low IQ- like. I’m sorry your posts are too hilarious not to engage with. Similarly I don’t like the spreading of lies.

Not in the slightest. I married at 19 and everyone knew we were a devoted couple. I fought against male prejudice as my boss didn’t want to give me day release to do my Institute of Banking Exams as I would ‘be having a baby soon’. I managed to be given the privilege alongside my many male colleagues. Passed the exams. Had a baby and was back at work within 5 weeks to a promotion and ended up being the ‘boss’ of one of the Freemasons who was against me doing the exams. Believe me, I know plenty about it and the assumption that people would think I slept my way to the top says much more about you and your own prejudices.

Free masonry is non religious and political organisation there is no anti catholic or black or Jewish
there are plenty of Jewish lodges in my lodge we have Roman Catholics in high positions
freemasonry is spread all over the world which takes in the Asia countries with their different religions
a belief in a supreme is what is needed to join

According to many priests, they still despise the Catholic Church. The two religions are completely incompatible.
Many YouTube videos detailing this.

People may not believe in spiritual side but many priests also believe that freemasons curse their future bloodline by the oaths they take on, and activities they engage in. Certain misfortunes follow them.

Also, my own husband, who was also in one of the professions (not banking) was regularly invited to join by more than one of my ‘colleagues’ at work functions. He declined.

Ah I see, you got there by pure hard work against the odds. Yet these men were useless and there had to be another explanation for their promotion. You’re so much better than these men. I can tell you, having worked in those kinds of organisations those sorts of rumours always appear. Esp about successful women
