Why are they heavily discounting butter? It’s hardly going to go off before Friday.

Starseeking · 24/12/2024 18:26

100% worth going to M&S, although I'd say I should have got there at about 5.40pm, rather than 5pm (it closed at 6pm).

I bought:
Luxury shellfish platter £18 (original £50)
2 x Dressed crab £1.90 each (original £9.50)
2 x King Prawns £1.99 each (original £5.00)

Spent just under £25 for £80 worth of seafood, we are going to enjoy Christmas 🎉🎉🎉

It actually has a BBE for today! I’ve popped one in the freezer and the other two will go to family members as I’m sure they’ll get through it over Xmas.

It was indeed! Bloke in kilt was very keen to get rid of it and even threw in a free wreath! Children (well, young adults) are decorating it now!

Lucky lucky you - that was an amazing tree (and they normally charge £20 for delivery so such a bargain......)

Research purposes only 🤣
what are the dates on these?

Went into Waitrose, got a pork fillet half price and a pack of marinated chicken breast for 99p. There was a tonne on the shelf, as well as meatballs etc for 99p and a woman got her kids to block either side and cleared the shelf. I wasn’t going to start fighting people for cheap meat 😂😂

popped down to M&S and got a great haul, £120 worth of food for just under £30.

best bargains were the steak pie, trifle and chicken cordon bleu all at c75% off. The lurpaks were 30p each. Left loads on the shelf, the sausage meat too - there was an aisle full so wasn’t greedy taking four 😉

Oh, how much did you get the salmon terrine for? I was going to buy one of those but we've already got too much in for the next few days, but if I'd seen it reduced I wouldn't have been able to resist.

Enterthedragonqueen · 24/12/2024 18:29

I think it's dependent on the store, my local one heavily discounted the fresh turkeys, fresh desserts & pre packed vegetables. The fresh fish was still at full price at 5:30pm and was hoping to get a discounted large side of salmon.

I used to have a friend whose husband worked in a chilled food distribution centre. He would be allowed to take home all the unsold stock and gave us a whole-ass turkey and smoked salmon, paté etc. Happy times.

We used to get massive bunches of undelivered roses on Valentine's Day too

£2! I’m not sure if I’d have paid £9 but maybe it’s delicious and totally worth it.

also, this is the large food hall at Loudwater if anyone is local - they close at 7 and the shelves were still quite full when I left.

NettleTea · 24/12/2024 18:34

Waitrose

mostly about 20% of original price
pork chops, steak, veal, mince, fresh fish, smoked salmon, a 4 fish roast, cakes, bread, and the nice lady reduced some things I had in my trolley which had been marked down further in my wander round.

last year they brought out boxes of meat that had been pre-ordered and not collected, and Id picked up a huge joint of pork for £12, but I left by about 5 today, so that may have happened after i went.

I have 3 course dinner for 4 of us for about £10 for this evening, and the rest is going in the freezer. I think timings are all important. When I first arrived things were only reduced a bit. Before I left they had done a second, serious, discounting.

NettleTea · 24/12/2024 18:36

They said that anything dates 25th and 26th will be marked down today, the later stuff will reduce, along with all the Christmas 'theme' stuff, on the 27th when they open again

P00hsticks · 24/12/2024 18:40

Globules · 24/12/2024 18:16

4pm, I went to the post office inside the Morrisons daily.

12 "best of" sausages £2
3 x "best of" ready meals. £1 each.
2 x £10 bottles of white wine, £3.50 each.

Why on earth are they reducing bottles of white wine ?
It's not like it's going to go past its sell by date ....

Starseeking · 24/12/2024 18:48

@JustMyView13 the luxury seafood platter and dressed crab are BBE 26/12/24, however the King Prawns are 27/12/24.

Think they must have marked down the King prawns by accident in their haste as the shop will be open again by 2712/24 but I wasn't complaining 🤣🤣🤣

Supergirl1958 · 24/12/2024 18:49

@Husbandrippedmeoff I am on tenterhooks! What did you get?

Fruitbatdancer · 24/12/2024 18:56

Some insane person is going to get a steal on a whole fresh mirror carp! I kid you not. Who the Fluff is buying this? Don’t even fishermen throw them
back?! There was a fridge full!

AuxArmesCitoyens · 24/12/2024 18:57

I think carp might be a Hannukah thing Hannukah starts tomorrow too

LindaDawn · 24/12/2024 18:58

RedToothBrush · 24/12/2024 15:38

Lamb joint. 50% off. Beef wellington 40% off (that Christmas dinner). Smoked salmon 50% off (I don't like salmon but it's breakfast for the rest of the house who could eat it by the kg). Steak 60% off (that's dinner).

Job done.

Supermarket was actually lighter on cheese than I'd like (I could die eating cheese) but can't complain!

Which shop was this please?

radiantorange · 24/12/2024 19:06

Our local M&S is open till 10pm tonight and open 7.30am to 10pm tomorrow!! Doesn’t close at all.

Keepingittogetherstepbystep · 24/12/2024 19:06

Spectre8 · 24/12/2024 19:08

My local.M&S had the garlic baguettes by the pasta section for 60p ...got a few of those and stuck then in the freezer.

Got the Brussels sprouts gratin for £1.70..normally £10.

Lots of turkey reduced to £33. But I don't eat it.

There was a while duck reduced down to £20.

Fish cakes reduced ed down to £1.20..again easy to freeze.

They had cherries reduced down to £1.20

This was at 1pm.

Maybe next year I'll go later as they had whole chickens with end date of 26th but hadn't yellow sticker them yet

mainecooncatonahottinroof · 24/12/2024 19:10

I was in Tesco about half 4. They still had 15p white potatoes and 15p carrots, so I stocked up for post new year as those things will keep for a bit!

Then went to M&S. They had heavily discounted gammons and something else, but a plague of locusts descended and the bastards grabbed the lot. There was one fat fucker who had at least 8 in his trolley which thereafter magically disappeared while he continued to hang out for more. Every member of staff said something different about whether more was coming! (it wasn't me asking!)

The one guy I did ask said it hadn't been decided whether to discount or donate to charity so I hope to hell the stuff went to people who need it, because I am pretty damn sure none of the vultures actually did!

I gave up around 5.50pm and as I left I overheard fat fucker tell someone he was waiting for turkeys as "some people asked me to get them some"!!! Did they fuck at 6pm on Christmas bloody Eve!!

All is not lost though. I met a friend there and she went back later, and she's picked me up a half price turkey with the trimmings set!

I guess to do with the arla boaver scare going on at the moment. Arla make Lurpak, lots of people have been boycotting it

P00hsticks · 24/12/2024 14:21

Round here I think some of the supermarkets are signed up to the local community fridge and other food charities / soup kitchens and the like to offload items.
So although I saw some reductions in our local LIDL earlier, I'm not sure there will be much more.

Yep, I went to the village free food stall to get bread for my bread sauce this afternoon, and the Lidl fairy had been. Lots of happy neighbours! 😊 I got some nice flowers, houmous, salsa, cheesecake, broccoli...

There’s one in the city near us that says it’s open till 9pm! If that’s right, it’s pretty shite for the people that work there.

Not everyone celebrates Christmas so for some it will be a day like any other.

XmasSocks · 24/12/2024 19:22

Hope everyone got some bargains
