Are there any conspiracy theories you believe in?

Inspired by another thread

I find conspiracy theories really interesting. I have never ‘believed’ any of them, more enjoy discussing them and how likely it seems that they could be true. I also think it’s more far fetched to believe that everything we have ever been told or ever will be told is the whole truth.

Are there any CTs you believe in? Lead me down a rabbit hole please!

But...

It's not been proved.
It's not been proved.
It's not been proved.

It's not received wisdom. It's a theory.

Does that not matter to you at all?

I don't think it is your point is relevant to @Ytcsghisn 's argument. Which is that an opinion which was pooh pooh'd and certainly would have you heckled and told to put your tinfoil hat away in 2019/2020, is now quite acceptable and there are newspaper reports of various acceptable and enlightened people saying that a lab leak is a likely source.

Perhaps it has not been proven either way but what was once a dangerous and unwelcome fringe opinion is now an acceptable opinion.

Edit: and I think that in itself is very interesting

I believe Marilyn Monroe was murdered and that the Kennedys were involved.

I have various thoughts on the JFK assassination, mainly that Oswald wasn't working alone and that Jack Ruby was deliberately given access and riled up to kill him.

I always thought Marilyn Monroe death weird. Apparently an overdose when she couldn't take pills without water and no water was found and the investigators saying they broke the door down when she never locked doors. She got too close to power.

Ohhbaby · 23/12/2024 07:54

@sashh What? I quoted the article because I was told "they never told us it was 100% effective".
Quite right it wasn't peer reviewed (or true).
I'm saying that not everything we read was true and it was unfair to call the people rightly speaking about immunity and unpeerreviewed articles, conspiracy theorists.

Newsenmum · 23/12/2024 07:56

The Bin Laden videos of himself mocking the authorities "come and get me!" which he supposedly kept sending were probably filmed in Hollywood. Indeed, to me it's questionable that he ever existed, he was a useful bogeyman.

@Ohhbaby
First the vax was 100% effective, then 90, then 80 and so on and now we know it wasn't effective in prevention .
See also "Reviewed in three weeks, three more weeks, just three more weeks, we can turn this virus around in twelve weeks, we need to squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeze the brakes on reopening (August), normalish by Christmas, significant normality by Easter, just until the over 70's have been vaccinated, over 60s, over 50s, over 40s, all children, unborn babies... irreversible roadmap to freedom in June, oops.... July. And there might be a mask mandate from October to Easter every year from now on.

And they think we didn't notice the constant moving of the goalposts.

Exactly!
Even now people are disagreeing that they ever said it's 100%effective
Bonkers!

RoamingGnome · 23/12/2024 07:58

What's surprising is how little attention people pay to real conspiracies- the opiate crisis in the US is literally due to the Sackler drug company conspiring to lie about the addictiveness of their painkillers.

Regarding the fentanyl crisis in the US, loads was being manufactured in China and legally exported to drug gangs in Central & South America for years - the Chinese government didn't make this illegal until a few years ago, and only started to regulate the production of the ingredients for fentanyl in 2024. The Chinese government basically don't give a damn.

Multiple individuals involved in the Grenfell cladding covered up it being unsafe.

Or do real world companies and governments knowingly selling unsafe products which cause huge amounts of harm not count as conspiracies?

Comtesse · 23/12/2024 02:54

OMG you all are loopy.

As for believing the govt can organise anything and do it in secret - come on! You might as well believe that Prince Philip was king of the lizards.

Those hateful people who think that Sandy Hook or the Manchester Arena bombing didn’t happen - what poisonous fools they are.

Doesn't matter who's in government because the civil servants all stay the same. MI5 etc are far more capable than any politician. You only have to look at Covid to see that the government didn't make the decisions the scientists and medical professionals did, and then there's the COBRA committee, the government probably makes hardly no decisions themselves because there's so many other people involved.

This is one conspiracy I think is true, that Megan and Harry used surrogates for their pregnancies.

Why would they hide it though? seems like a lot of effort to lie.

Ohhbaby · 23/12/2024 07:59

Again, which wasn't true was it? It was much lower than that

PeggyMitchellsCameo · 23/12/2024 07:59

Marilyn Monroe did not kill herself.

CrystalMud · 23/12/2024 08:04

Datgal · 22/12/2024 18:34

No, I don't believe any.
Purely for the fact, most would have to involve a fair number of people to be involved or at least know about it. There's no way masses of people could keep quiet like that. Not if it's the truth.

I don't think this is true.

For example, for central government or another organisation to decide to misrepresent an issue or event, all that needs to happen is for a few senior people to decide what message to go with and communicate about said event.

In general, governments and large organisations do think about the strategic narrative they will present both internally and externally on any big issue. For example, for leadership debates a lot of what we hear is the strategic narrative or position a party has taken on an issue, complete with key words and phrases.

It's not that much of a stretch to think senior members of organisations could use similar methods to bend the truth. These organisations tend to be hierarchical and lack transparency between levels so there's no reason whole organisations would need to be in on it.

Ghgggggg · 23/12/2024 08:05

After having a Covid vaccine injury I absolutely hate the conspiracy theories around it. Also the other side that insist it was completely safe. There is a middle ground where some people had heart damage, blood clotting problems and nerve damage. We should be able to talk about it openly. I was hospitalized, my case fully investigated and diagnosed, then officially accepted as a vaccine injury. The reality is lost under the noise of the conspiracies and also the insistence it is completely safe (there are government payouts and autopsies that definitively show for some it was not).

Because she planned the whole 'Marrying a Prince' from way back - created domain names for her and her 'children' she just wants fame and fortune, she can not have children (father confirmed hysterectomy) and she wanted to compete with the Princess of Wales. Both children are ginger - from the photoshopped photos we are allowed to see, no afrocarribean traits, the moonbump fell to her knees in Liverpool - getty image to prove, moonbump deflated and reinflated on a 'royal' no royal doctors present to confirm delivery - to be in the line of succession- so much evidence they faked her pregancies.

CrystalMud · 23/12/2024 08:11

CraftyNavySeal · 22/12/2024 19:06

I think it’s more like conspiracy theories are created or at least spread more widely to muddy the waters. Most are false but some are true, and brushed off with “it’s just a conspiracy theory!”.

Look at David Ike, bonkers but he was absolutely right about Jimmy Saville.

Where do you think a lot of the distrust of vaccines come from? The US government literally did infect people with syphilis to see what happened! Read the files released by the CIA admitting all the weird stuff they did.

An intelligent view would be a healthy level of skepticism with being open to the possibility that some of it could actually be true.

I agree. It would be pretty silly to assume that everything we hear on the news or from government is totally transparent and without any agenda or spin.
Even if we think that both are largely honest, govt will have thought about how any major issues are represented and framed - it's not a totally naive process.

If a surrogate was used, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet would not be in the Line of Succession, which would appear to be of importance to M&H, so I would say it's unlikely. Plus, she definitely looked pregnant to me.

I find this a good way of debunking chemtrails. The weather and physics nerds will show how the claims about what you see in the sky are true, which is good and necessary, but if you are a true conspiracist you don't trust scientists anyway (because you always found algebra a bit challenging). I think it's easier to ask things like where the chemtrail factory is, how they recruit staff, whether the people who work there have a union, whether the people who run the canteen know what the factory makes, who drives the tanker to the airport, where the tank for the chemicals is on the plane, at what point the pilots get their briefings for when to spray the chemicals (can't see Michael O'Leary standing for any delays), and finally, even though this has allegedly been going on for decades, why not a single person in this multi-billion dollar industry has come forward, even on their deathbed, with a confession of what they've been involved with.

In fact just the bit about the canteen is probably enough. So many conspiracies require an army of not just evil scientists but also just workers. When I see a James Bond movie I always want to ask what SPECTRE's annual leave policy is for junior grade henchpersons.

Edited

The last few years I’ve suspected chemtrails and geoengineering and solar management (which is a thing it’s on government website if you look), definitely something going on, but this post has definitely enlightened me and made me think hmmmm maybe !
also Covid was one big lie, definitely things don’t add up there. The Covid jabs where a complete money making scam that have killed more than Covid, again not a conspiracy really as proven true.
Dianas death not accident.

BananaNirvana · 22/12/2024 18:40

Diana would have survived if she’d been wearing a seatbelt. Simple as that. No conspiracy.

The moon landings clearly aren’t a conspiracy - literally THOUSANDS of people would have to have been on it. It’s such utter nonsense that none of them would have spilled the beans by now 😂.

Thank you and agreed.

Same here.
Some people struggle to understand the physics and engineering involved, especially pre modern computers, so think it couldn't have happened.

Seriously? To all of it. Any meteorologist will tell you how the weather works. The Covid being a lie- 1/3 of the people in my mum's care home died. They usually had 2-3 deaths a year, I know because I asked.
I don't understand the nonsense about Diana.

There is no evidence that she gave birth - why did the obstetrician 'delivered; Lilibet close her practice and disappear, why were there photos Getty images of her - on the same day have differing bump sizes, both ginger to suit the narrative -ginger is a recessive gene, no afro.
The fact that Harry has had is parentage questioned throughout all his life (James Hewitt) you would have thought he would have quashed the rumours for the sake of his 'children' who are not going through much worse.

That is correct in a way. I have very little trust if I cant see it myself. I believe there is a spiritual side to everything, and the fact that Hollywood and media mock Christianity makes me even more distrustful of mainstream media sources

Is the moon even a planet, or is it just a star that is closer to is than we realise? Do these millions of planets even exist? Space extends almost infinitively? Maybe/maybe not. Science education is also viewed by some as indoctrination and brainwashing.

This is a conspiracy theory thread so we are allowed to freely express our mistrust.

It's not really about trust with vaccines, though, it's the belief that scientists are actively seeking to do you harm. Everyday people, no different to you or I. People who took the vaccines, and whose families took the vaccines.

And saying "I just want to know what I'm putting in my body" Fuck. Off. I guarantee you do not know the chemical composition of every single thing you put in your body.

Also my fave theory is that Michelle Obama is a man. I can’t unsee it now. There’s videos of Barrack accidentally referring to her as ‘Mick’ and also some videos of ‘her’ dancing on Ellen with a definite penis swinging around and one of her walking out grabbing it.

Also another questionable one is that Meghan Markle used a surrogate and her bump was fake, there are some telling photos online 🙈

The moon landing, none of the maths adds up and we really didn't have that level of technology at the time.

I studied Physics at Uni.
The department was one of those who received original samples of moon dust from the Apollo 11 landing and we studied the details as to how it differed from earth dust at length. There are loads of articles about moon dust on-line. Of course a conspiracy theorist would simply call me a liar, but I really have sat right next to real moon dust ( kept in a sealed glass container in this case ) and had to pass an assessment in a course about it taught by academics who were honest as they come. Any BS in that situation would be called out straight away. Also the line about the maths not adding up is not true, speaking as someone who has actually worked through it under the gaze of people who have studied maths for a lifetime.

This is what I hate about certain conspiracy theorists.

So painfully stupid but so sure of their own intelligence.

Just keep gormlessly believing what the mega rich people tell you, dear, and tell yourself it's because you're a critical thinker 😂

I believe what you are responding to shows the Dunning Kruger effect in action. It's quite depressing.
