This bloody dog will be the death of me

I love him to bits but fuck me hes outdone himself this afternoon

Went out to pub and had a lovely time. Came home to him bashing into thing and staggering about with a nice pile of sick in the middle of the only rug we have (why do they always do that) quickly rush him to the vet who asks what he ate. He ate bread dough and vommed it all back up. The yeast was fermenting in his stomach and he was effectively drunk.

They could feel something in his tummy so he was sedated and x rayed. He had coins in his intestine and a Lego action man. So he's had emergency surgery today and has cost me &
£1600. He'd eaten 27p in coins fuck knows how or when!

How old is the dog you ask? 17 years old no shits given.

He also chewed off the vets shoe lace when he was brought back to me as the vet was telling me what he had removed from his stomach. He didn't swallow that thank God.

🤣🤣 sorry to laugh but it is funny. Simon is definitely channeling his Labrador side.

Is simon the dog walker?

captainPugwashh · 22/12/2024 20:33

@Ezlo the dog is called Simon

How's he doing OP? Mab is loads better, he's sleeping off his doggy cocodamol at the moment but his appetite is right back and he's drinking plenty of water. He's been doing a lot of huffy, offended talking about his experience, but his tail is wagging again. Unfortunately he has also discovered his stitches.

He's doing ok! Tripping still on gabapentin but he's not in pain now. I had to put a cone of shame on our other dogs because they were licking his stitches for him Hmm

@captainPugwashh Its a good job we love them isn't it. Mab is constipated but I remember that cocodamol is very constipating to humans so perhaps its the same for dogs. I feel sorry for him because he's a rescue and this has definitely knocked his confidence - they said he was no trouble at the vets, just a bit 'shut down', like he was at the shelter. I sat with him yesterday while my mum did the much-delayed xmas food shop and he did a bit of offended talking and huffing about his experience but was also wagging his tail. Anyway this morning we will take him just over the road on his lead which will no doubt perk him right up, he's a very outdoorsy dog. Here is a picture of him being handsome.

He's very handsome! Simon is a lot quieter than usual 😭

Thought that our DDog was quiet this afternoon then saw her in her bed and heard a squeak. She's only found and stolen my DSis' DDog's Christmas present. She really is a little bugger.

iloveeverykindofcat · 24/12/2024 16:10

Aw sorry to hear that! Simon is a senior gentleman so it will probably take him a bit to bounce back. Mab is about 3, we aren't exactly sure as he came from the shelter. He could be 4, but probably not because we got him 2 years ago and he grew in length after that, so I think he was 1 max when we got him. He had a little walk on the lead today and was loving it, tail right up and trotting along. Quite amazing considering he only had his intestines taken out and repaired on Friday. I think he gets a bit sore when its nearly time for his painkiller but apart from that the main challenge now is just convincing him not to jump around. The wound looks very tidy.

Still can't believe he ate a rock.

I'm so sorry he's not recovered yet Flowers

I received a lot of parcels lately which I put in the office to wrap. I ordered a hot water bottle for my bad back as recommended by mumsnetters. Put it under the desk. Son home from university writing an essay has been using the office somehow locked the Labrador in.

When I noticed her face at the glass door I let her out. This morning son discovered the hot water bottle on the floor, the neck and top well punctured. Straight into the bin.

I could scream.

BoobyDazzler · 24/12/2024 17:21

Mine spent time at the vets when he was a puppy for chewing up a paracetamol packet he’d managed to fish out of my bag, that was hanging on the back of the chair in the kitchen.. £1500 and that was mostly blood tests which never showed he’d actually ingested any of it! The pack could have been empty for all I know. He’s also eaten a whole chocolate orange without ripping the foil or the box - under the toxic threshold - and had to have induced vomitting due to stealing something I’d made with dark chocolate out of the bin which could have been toxic..£400. He stole a whole uncooked pizza off the side last week that dd was waiting to put in the oven… at least we assume it was him 😂 He has absolutely no shame.

Dogs are absolute dickheads

BoobyDazzler · 24/12/2024 17:26

Oh, and I’ve posted this before… my old dog pooed out a pair of my knickers.

🤮

Fireworknight · 24/12/2024 21:24

Mab is beautiful. Befitting of a corgi, looks very regal sitting there.

I’ve got another lab story. Stole a hot cross bun so off to emergency vets we trotted. It was only afterwards I realised he’d helped himself to my muesli on more than occasion.

Like all labs, he likes to counter surf, but on a daily basis must stick his head in the kitchen bin.

iloveeverykindofcat · 25/12/2024 04:35

@Fireworknight occasionally he looks regal for a few seconds in stillness. As soon as he moves the illusion is shattered, he's a big goof

Fairislesweater · 27/12/2024 12:50

Well as I type I’m at the emergency vet as the stupid dog has just wolfed two bars of strong choc. Idiot.

Fireworknight · 27/12/2024 12:58

How Frustrating. If nothing else, that’s two bars of chocolate you’ve missed out on!

( Hope idiot dog is okay)

Oh no! Hope he's ok Flowers

iloveeverykindofcat · 27/12/2024 13:26

Mab is in fine form. We have succesful poop. Doesn't even need his painkillers anymore, though we will persist with his antibiotics until the course is finished. He has resumed "doing his music" (singing the correct notes in response to instruments, his one talent) and walks on his lead, and his desperate to be let off to zoon.

He is going for a checkup on Monday with the vet who did his surgery.

He's strong as an ox, yet singularly ill-equipped so survive in the wild. I 10000% guarantee you that his sister would not eat a rock.

justasking111 · 27/12/2024 14:55

Sorry for the patients.

Out shit ate sons walking boots last night. Husband replaced this morning. Also chewed at my new rug. SHe's in everyone's bad books

🤣 I don't think Simon would last in the wild! We took him to my mums for Christmas and when I'd previously got the Christmas tree in the car I'd put the seats down and obviously had quite clicked them back up when I put the dogs in the car.

Halfway to the motorway DH turned in his seat and noticed the back seat had flopped down onto Simon and he was just lying there accepting his fate of being squished by the back seat.
We moved it and forced him to move over but he was soon back underneath it. Turned out he good smell the beef joint in the boot and had chewed through the seat belt to get into the boot the little shit!
