Going to scream at woman at hairdressers

LunaTheCat · 19/12/2024 22:12

Sitting at hairdresser, foils in , reading my book. There is a woman next to me using the hairdresser as her office - laptop, cell glued to her ear, shouting down her phone, trying to do a deal.
WTAF - total lack consideration for others around. She is probably under pressure so part of me is trying to think kind thoughts.

OP posts:

It's a hairdressers not a yoga retreat. She was probably having to talk loudly over the sound of the hairdryers. Good for her multi tasking.

Take headphones next time and listen to a calming app as you're obviously a bit stressed.

This has to be one of the most smug posts I’ve seen in awhile. Yes OP, a lady of leisure such as yourself should not be subjected to working girls being seen and heard during a hairdressing pampering session. It really brings down the tone of the place.

Nothing smug about her post at all , and how judgmental are you ! RUDE

It's a hairdressers not an office, and who wears headphones when having their hair done.

beAsensible1 · 20/12/2024 13:22

the thing is its so much dead time at the hairdressers and honestly not that relaxing. lots of chatting and banging and blowdrying.

not the prefect place to get work done that is phone based but i wouldn't consider it to be disturbing anyone, there's usually music going the whole time.

put some headphones in to dim the noise.

Nikitaspearlearring · 20/12/2024 13:23

Really rude to make loud phone calls in public like this, especially as it's not in the street ( where people could move away) but here they have no choice but to be impacted by it. They are paying a lot of money and might well see it as pampering. Her behaviour is really disrespectful to everyone else.

Easipeelerie · 20/12/2024 13:23

I agree with you. Anyone who makes you listen to sounds coming out of their devices for a period of time is rude and selfish. I don’t mind hearing people, but their devices drive me nuts and if you’re trapped in a hairdressers chair, you can’t opt to leave.

Sorry, earphones. You know those little buds that sit inside your ears. They wouldn't interfere with foils at all.

Hairdressers are noisy! People shouting, loud music and hairdryers blasting. Someone doing some work should not have riled the op in the slightest.

How do you cope with hairdryers?

hamsandyams · 20/12/2024 13:26

I would switch in a heartbeat to a hairdressers that is geared up for me working through the appt. I don’t see it as pampering, I see at as a required appt to keep presentable and fitting it in around work is a nightmare

Lemonyfuckit · 20/12/2024 13:27

sloecat · 20/12/2024 12:33

Ask her politely if she could either keep her voice down or take her call outside. I did this recently and they did talk more quietly and I also got an apology. Some people don’t realise how loud their voices are in public.. Some don’t give a toss on the other hand.

This.

I think it's fine for her to be doing her work at the hairdresser if that works for her / she's allowed (none of our business on that front). As someone who works in a job which is usually insanely busy in the run up to Christmas there's pretty much no 'off time' that you can necessarily call your own, as it's client facing, you can be working all night / at the weekend, so there's no time you feasibly can fit in the hairdressers otherwise and there's so much pressure pre Christmas to fit absolutely everything in it's mad.

But equally fine to ask her to keep her voice down, it's not considerate of others if having v loud phone calls the whole time (hairdressers are noisy places though, I don't think its a particularly quiet relaxing place though it's not a spa).

You might have a business model there!

KalinkaMalinka · 20/12/2024 13:33

OP, sales manager here, last working day for many, cut us some slack - targets to hit, jobs to keep! 💕

Gloriia · 20/12/2024 13:34

'I find the But equally fine to ask her to keep her voice down'

It isn't fine. It would be if you were at a spa or another quiet relaxing retreat but in a noisy busy environment it would be very odd fo tell one person to be quiet.

LunaTheCat · 19/12/2024 23:00

Actually - I am not a lady of leisure. I am a GP who had worked 43 hours in the last 4 days.
i know the feeling of pressure.
I just think we need to be respectful that for a lot women - me included - the hairdresser is a treat and a chance self care.

Maybe you should start doing your telephone consultations in the hairdressers....that would make it interesting! I don't think people should make business calls in public! You don't know who might be there.

4x days over 10 hours ... respect as it's full on. I'm a retired GP and really struggled on a full day near the end. My brain was frazzled.

Marymaryxmas · 20/12/2024 13:39

YANBU she is !

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 20/12/2024 13:40

Surely if she's sooooo busy she could have booked a mobile stylist to come to her home!? That's more efficient surely?

Some people just love to show they're so much busier than yow. It's competitive Confused

Spangledangle · 20/12/2024 13:42

People have forgotten how to behave in public, it's symptomatic of the selfishness that has crept into society in the last few years. I've worked on trains/at hairdressers/cafes etc but would never sit subjecting people to loud protracted work calls.

Glitterybee · 20/12/2024 13:48

Nothing wrong with bringing the laptop and discreetly getting on with some work whilst sitting around getting hair done. But it’s definitely not acceptable to be taking loud calls and shouting.

same goes for people at the hairdressers who aren’t also working

Blushingm · 20/12/2024 13:50

Not very professional of her - if I was her client or her boss I wouldn't be impressed

The solution is for the bothered to wear earphones don't you know. 🙄
Let everyone just live in their own little self-centred bubble w/o a thought to anyone else.

ItGhoul · 20/12/2024 13:54

I get that loud phone calls can be annoying, obviously. But I suppose so can any kind of conversation, including the conversations customers have with their stylists etc.

I also don't really get why people think of going to the hairdresser as being 'relaxing' or 'pampering'. I've never thought of it as being either of those things. I love my hairdresser and her salon plays brilliant music and I get to see some really interesting cuts and colours getting done (her salon focuses on edgier/more alternative looks) but I don't really find having my hair cut 'relaxing' or 'pampering' in any way whatsoever.

CyranoDeBergerQuack · 20/12/2024 13:56

Circumferences · 19/12/2024 22:17

I'd have a word with the manager (if there is one) or "main" hairdresser, or actually just you hairdresser.

People go to the hairdresser for a bit of pampering, a bit of me time, a bit of lightheartedness and relaxing. Not to be reminded of an office environment and get stressed out by shouty calls.

People should be told to pack it in if they're doing that sort of thing . Say if that lady books again make sure she comes phone free and don't book her in the same timeslot.

Drives you nuts that sort of carry on.

'Pack it in'
Thank you! My dad's favourite saying!

That's the biggest load of crap I've read today

Babbahabba · 20/12/2024 14:03

Hairdressers aren't usually relaxing places. Blaring music. Hair dryers going. The stylists chattering on.

TheignT · 20/12/2024 14:04

polkadotclip · 19/12/2024 22:22

She's probably not actually 'shouting', though is she?

People go to the hairdresser to get their hair done. It's functional it's not really pampering, with your head covered in foils and hairdryers blasting.

Fair play to her getting her work done at the same time. Efficient use of time. It is stressful trying to get deals across the line before holidays. I hope she manages it.

I never go for the pampering, I hate going but as you say it is functional so I suck it up and do it. My main wish is for a hairdresser who doesn't chat. I just want it over and done with.

Maybe there should be categories of hairdressers like We Pamper You, We don't Chat, Do your online business While We Do Your Hair. Not sure if there are any other categories although DGS tells me the local barber gives you a beer while having your hair cut, I'm teetotal so that wouldn't be a category for me but might appeal to some.
