Going to scream at woman at hairdressers

LunaTheCat · 19/12/2024 22:12

Sitting at hairdresser, foils in , reading my book. There is a woman next to me using the hairdresser as her office - laptop, cell glued to her ear, shouting down her phone, trying to do a deal.
WTAF - total lack consideration for others around. She is probably under pressure so part of me is trying to think kind thoughts.

It should be a place for her to relax and be pampered. Maybe she’s in a stressful job and just can’t “switch off”.

Circumferences · 19/12/2024 22:17

I'd have a word with the manager (if there is one) or "main" hairdresser, or actually just you hairdresser.

People go to the hairdresser for a bit of pampering, a bit of me time, a bit of lightheartedness and relaxing. Not to be reminded of an office environment and get stressed out by shouty calls.

People should be told to pack it in if they're doing that sort of thing . Say if that lady books again make sure she comes phone free and don't book her in the same timeslot.

Drives you nuts that sort of carry on.

AppleTreeSeed · 19/12/2024 22:18

I had somebody like that next to me when I was in the ward in the hospital after my son was born. I went home. Some people are very strange indeed.

Lavender14 · 19/12/2024 22:19

I think I'd feel a bit sorry for her that she's not able to just relax and wind down for an hour or two. I think with Christmas coming people are just under so much pressure - with work to get things wound up, with home and sickness bugs and all the prep and then to find the time for appointments to look glam etc. It can be a lot and it sounds like she's been struggling to juggle.

Not your problem in that you should be able to go and just relax if she's being loud, but id probably just let it go.

polkadotclip · 19/12/2024 22:22

She's probably not actually 'shouting', though is she?

People go to the hairdresser to get their hair done. It's functional it's not really pampering, with your head covered in foils and hairdryers blasting.

Fair play to her getting her work done at the same time. Efficient use of time. It is stressful trying to get deals across the line before holidays. I hope she manages it.

Likewhatever · 19/12/2024 22:46

Totally agree OP. People who “WFH” anywhere but in their own home. With a bit of luck karma will ensure her hair melts.

NewName24 · 19/12/2024 22:49

YWBU to "scream" at her, yes.

YANBU to find her very annoying.

SummerFeverVenice · 19/12/2024 22:52

This has to be one of the most smug posts I’ve seen in awhile. Yes OP, a lady of leisure such as yourself should not be subjected to working girls being seen and heard during a hairdressing pampering session. It really brings down the tone of the place.

But what would happen if the OP had also been making work calls beside the other woman? It doesn't sound like both of them could have been heard!

Actually - I am not a lady of leisure. I am a GP who had worked 43 hours in the last 4 days.
i know the feeling of pressure.
I just think we need to be respectful that for a lot women - me included - the hairdresser is a treat and a chance self care.

Don't be daft.

For a start, as a Manager, I would be VERY unimpressed if I found out someone had been making calls and using their laptop in a place where everything could be overhears, and where the people on the other end of the phone would be able to hear they weren't getting full attention.

Secondly, you do realise people who work also go and get their hair done? They have arranged their working week so that they have that 30mins or hour or two hours without hearing anything about work, and that switching off actually is a chance to switch off and relax.

WigglyVonWaggly · 19/12/2024 23:09

I’m totally with you. It’s a place which a lot of women find quite expensive and a place to have some pampering and relaxing. It is not an office. I’d tell my hairdresser that it’s too much now - noise & length it’s been going on for - and ask a member of staff to tell her to take her calls elsewhere. Even if that means standing outside in foils. She’s not the centre of the universe.

KimberleyClark · 19/12/2024 23:23

YANBU OP.

ThisJustMauveMember · 19/12/2024 23:33

Probably should be at the office but is getting her hair done lol

GravyBoatWars · 19/12/2024 23:56

Hearing people make phone calls in public has always grated for me, but then I’m noise sensitive. But the world is full of people in different phases of their day focusing on different things, and there are plenty of times when I’m the one in a rush annoyed by the person having a calm, sedate shopping experience while I wish everyone would walk faster grab faster hurry up so I could knock out that errand and move on tho the next item in my long day. It is what it is.

Ear plugs are wonderful things - I keep both noise cancelling AirPods and loop ear plugs in my purse and stick them in when in public places by default.

DoubleFunMum · 20/12/2024 00:01

Please don't scream at people in a public place for not acting as you are/ would. That only makes you an a**hole.

WaitingforStrike · 20/12/2024 11:08

Pretty clear she didn't scream at anyone. She's asking if it's reasonable to be very frustrated at this woman! And I think it is, as do many other people on the thread. She wasn't just being "different" she was interfering with other people's experience.

I doubt her client would be impressed

WaitingforStrike · 20/12/2024 12:21

@Whereis OP has posted about her job previously on other threads - and troll hunting is not allowed! If you doubt her, report her.

Ohthedaffodils · 20/12/2024 12:27

@SummerFeverVenice - not everyone works 9-5 Mon to Fri. Ever heard of shift work?
You sound like a smuggymcsmugface yourself.

ApolloandDaphne · 20/12/2024 12:30

That would drive me mad too. If the woman needs to work she could at least do it quietly with some regard for others around her.

muddyford · 20/12/2024 12:31

Screaming is for terrifying situations or playing children of primary age, not for adults.

Calm down, OP was clearly not literally going to scream at anyone.

You are not being smug at all. This would irritate anyone!
