A large hotel local-ish to us (around 10 miles away) is currently closed for bookings as it is being occupied by just under 400 asylum seekers.

Recently, in our village and a couple of neighbouring ones, there has been a spate of parcels being stolen from doorsteps. I’m sure you can all work out who has taken the blame for this….! Even though one of the perpetrators is known to be a local lad, born and bred in our village, some people are still blaming others..

The comments on Facebook community groups are disgusting.

Since when has it been acceptable to so readily stick the blame upon those literally fleeing their countries?

I honestly feel that as a human race, we are devolving.

Well said.
It's not racist. People are angry as it feels unjustified whilst British people are suffering without any help. It's not that hard to understand.

Exactly. I genuinely can't understand why we continue to accept people into the country snd house and feed them when we can't even house and feed our own. I've no problem helping out other in need, but make sure that we have our own houses in order first.

DingDongVerilyOnHigh · 19/12/2024 01:23

And!

Why is the underprivileged young man that lives near you and less deserving than the underprivileged young man that came from 2,000 miles away?

Why?

Who said anything about being undeserving? OP was talking about thieves stealing parcels - not about the rights and wrongs of supporting migrants, which is what I imagine you're referring to.

Some of the absolute vile comments on here are heartbreaking and show a complete ignorance of how the immigration and asylum process works. Those that have written “ stay in France” and similar should hang your heads in shame! I 💯 support the OP. She is a caring and compassionate human being which seems to be more and more of a rarity in the UK (specifically england) of late.

”Karma at its finest”

So glad we agree that immigration is harmful to natives.

This country is only successful because of immigration. Keep blaming foreigners for your miserable life.

Well its a good job our intelligence and security services are not driven by compassion like the OP then.

  • Over the course of a decade (2013-2023), there has been a 667% surge in anti-Semitic hate incidents.
  • Nearly 80% of all charges related to terrorism in the UK since 2001 were connected to a group or ideology based outside of the country, i.e., ‘international terrorism’.
  • The top foreign nationals involved in UK terror-related offenses from 2002 to 2021 were people from Algeria, Iraq, Pakistan, Iran, Afghanistan, Turkey, Somalia, India, and Sri Lanka. With the exception of Algeria, all these countries are among the top 20 nationalities engaged in illegal crossings of the English Channel.
  • 94% of those arrested for terrorism-related offences in 2021/22 were men. This statistic is particularly significant given the substantial number of male migrants arriving illegally across the English Channel. Since January 2018, 70% of irregular arrivals have been adult males aged 18 and over.
  • Foreign national offenders (FNOs) constitute 12% of the total prison population, with a 3% increase in foreign national offenders compared to the previous year.
  • Albanians, who illegally crossed the Channel in record numbers until the agreement to return them to Albania was made, are the most prevalent nationality in prison after British nationals.
  • Although most immigrants adhere to the law, certain demographics show a higher propensity for criminal activity. Academic research into crime rates in Sweden, Denmark and other Nordic nations like Norway and Finland has highlighted this disparity.

I'd rather keep our nation safe and our children alive thanks.

You said that immigration is “karma” for the English, for the crime of colonialism.

Therefore, you yourself spoke of immigration as a bad thing.

“Keep blaming foreigners for your miserable life” - you’re not doing much to disprove the impression that those who cheer on mass immigration are elitists in Ivory towers, divorced from the working class people who suffer.

And no country needs or wants immigrants with a primary school level education.

To those in denial about my post about colonialism playing a huge role on migration today. I would love to see what modern Britain would look like after hundreds of years being colonised by other nations and what you would do in their situation. I'm sure you would be on the first dingy with your begging bowl in tow to another country in order to better yours and your families lives. Britain was one of the biggest players in destabilising other countries. The benefits we have reaped from this is part of the reason some of you sit on your high horses complaining about where migrants should and shouldn't be. Why on earth would people come here if they could have a good life in their countries. Everyone deserves a better life and perhaps we should start looking at corrupt governments who are the puppet masters instead of blaming browns and blacks.

Vikings? Saxons? Romans? Normans?

dcbgr · 20/12/2024 22:05

Britain gave the industrial revolution to the world which was previously trapped in a Malthusian nightmare of poverty and ignorance.

Without the inventions and genius of Europe and America, Africa, Asia and South America would be trapped in their dystopian nightmares of autocratic role or anarchy when 2 out of every 3 children died, the average life expectancy was 30, women were chattel, and human sacrifice, slavery and immiseration daily life.

Ingratitude is the worst sin. Stupidity the worst affliction.

The same way that south eastern Europe looks like after centuries of Ottoman colonisation and slavery. The same way that Ireland, Malta and Cyprus look post British-empire.

That is, not much different from us. Because they're not much different from us.

Vynalbob · 20/12/2024 22:11

Not even safe from the hard of thinking here. I agree it feels like we're evolving and not slowly. I hope sanity will return.

It’s always been socially acceptable to blame immigrants for all of life’s woes. Whether the mouth breathers voting you unreasonable are actually wrong in their opinions is a different question.

I'm referring to colonisation in the way Britain colonised Africa. Britain would have never survived this type of disruption, and i repeat; many brits would be on the next dingy out of here had we been colonised in that way. The Ottoman empire was nowhere near as brutal and inhumane as the transatlantic trade. People should try to show some compassion and understanding of human behaviour then you might park your racism for two seconds and understand why certain cultures move and behave the way they do.

Supersimkin7 · 20/12/2024 22:28

I'm sorry, did that leave generational trauma on Brits? Does it still affect Britain today? Is the country still destabilised today? Was it anywhere close to the level of systemic dehumanising or racially motivated as the slave trade? What a ridiculous comparison to make. Just say you feel no empathy for those suffering in other countries due to british invasion and keep it moving.

Wildly offensive? No.

Racism is offensive.

It is offensive actually. And something I and a lot of other women I know are trying to help with.

To claim ignorance to the dehumanisation of women in Afghanistan and Iran for example who do not have sufficient rights or freedom is nothing to be proud of.

Are you aware of the number of Africans killed during slavery? The transatlantic slave trades racial dimension and enduring systemic impact make it uniquely devasting in world history. Africans were even enslaved during the ottoman empire as well so it seems they never really got a break!

Slavery is a horrendous act which has been utilised the world over by all races, all religions.
