A large hotel local-ish to us (around 10 miles away) is currently closed for bookings as it is being occupied by just under 400 asylum seekers.

Recently, in our village and a couple of neighbouring ones, there has been a spate of parcels being stolen from doorsteps. I’m sure you can all work out who has taken the blame for this….! Even though one of the perpetrators is known to be a local lad, born and bred in our village, some people are still blaming others..

The comments on Facebook community groups are disgusting.

Since when has it been acceptable to so readily stick the blame upon those literally fleeing their countries?

I honestly feel that as a human race, we are devolving.

Of course it matters why. Men who want to abuse women will abuse women given the opportunity. More men means more chance of violence. Groups of large, undocumented, unemployed, men will increase the risk of violence.

As I'm sure you're perfectly aware, since you work in the field, VAWAG is very rare from strangers. It's very common from people close to the survivors.

All VAWAG is important and needs to be tackled and that will take a seismic shift in society. Brown skinned men aren't more dangerous to women that their close associates.

If someone is immigrating legally to the UK, they need a police clearance certificate. We have enough British criminals without the need to import more.

Again, that’s because of opportunity. It’s not because we are safe with unknown men.

Women make choices to mitigate the risk. We don’t walk alone at night for example. This decreases the opportunity of unknown men being able to attack women.

I agree, and I‘m an immigrant myself.
Also, when people say „maybe they want to come to the UK because they already speak the language and/ or know someone here“ - my family have been in exactly that situation many years ago.
They wanted to leave the oppressive regime that was their home country and move to another place where their friends had previously moved to.
They started learning the language, but the country they wanted to immigrate to stopped accepting new arrivals.
So they ended up going to another place that still did. It wasn’t their first choice and they didn’t know the language at all, but that’s where they went.
They didn’t just try to get to their place of choice anyway.

Unless they stay at home, women and girls are in danger from unknown men who have been known to take opportunities to assault. For example in public toilets or local parks.

The majority of immigrants to the UK are actually from India which has a terrible record for VAWAG. Yet you're not bothered about them apparently even though Harshita Brella was recently murdered by her husband.

Whatever the reason, it was women and children who came, which the public is always going to be more accepting of.

Also I think there are about 250K total - spread out, that doesn't represent a change of demographic.

If there were large groups of young Ukranian men put into hotels, who then proceeded to hang around aimlessly, smoking and harrassing women and girls, I'm sure they wouldn't be popular either.
