It looks nice enough but doesn’t cater for bra-wearing with the low back and strap sleeves. Doesn’t look terribly supportive either, so for that reason it would be a no from me, but I don’t think it looks tacky.

IAm16StoneHalloween2024 · 20/12/2024 17:16

I love it. But I’d be wary of buying from EBay.

i think it’s very nice. Wouldn’t buy yet but as long as you have the figure for it it’s one for the future. Also when the time comes you could get a dressmaker to run that up now you have a clear photo.

saying i'd have to be anorexic to wear a wedding dress is a slightly unhinged opinion. i'm a size 8/10, which is what this dress is.

Size 6 isn’t anorexic 😂🤦‍♀️

abracadabra1980 · 20/12/2024 22:08

Tacky with a capital T. Sorry.

puzzlemath · 20/12/2024 23:34

The main difference between ball gowns and wedding dresses is that wedding dresses are a lot thicker, more layers, more structure, many have inbuilt corsets?

I saw some 1930s 40s 50s ball gowns the other day, from a time when posh women regularly dressed up in beautiful dresses. I wonder if that is the appeal of the whole expensive wedding dress and wedding thing to women today, why women dream of that before they have met the person they want to marry. If we had more posh formal parties with beautiful long dresses we'd not want to do the big wedding thing!

Pinkpurpletulips · 20/12/2024 23:37

In a moment of madness, I decided my incredibly expensive couture wedding dress was going to have net over silk on the skirt. The dress designer during the fitting lifted up the net to show me the silk underneath. I asked her whether we could get rid of the net. She smiled and told me she'd known I'd hate it and she'd had the seamstresses tack it on lightly so it could be easily removed without damaging the silk. I can't imagine what I was thinking. Lose the net - it looks highly flammable.

Oh, I married an old acquaintance. He was always keen I thought but I kept dating unsuitable men. After one of them behaved very very badly - truly jawdropping stuff - I asked him out. It was slightly embarrassing as I called him at work not having his direct line and there were two men with the same first name. I had to level with receptionist. She put me through and he was in the middle of a meeting and had to ask people to talk amongst themselves! I feel overall this is much less embarrassing than stories I've heard about online dating. When we got married the receptionist was really pleased. Look around your friend and acquaintance pool. He turned out to be the love of my life and we've been married over
30 years

BebbanburgIsMine · 21/12/2024 00:09

It's a beautiful dress OP

Buy it!

Bonsaitree7 · 21/12/2024 14:55

Pantomime/the sugar plum fairy.

Fionuala · 21/12/2024 20:52

what on earth are you thinking!!!
i've never heard of such a thing as buying wedding dress before any arrangements
get a grip please - forget it and buy some other stuff you can strut out in and meet a guy in

weirdoboelady · 21/12/2024 21:18

Why are people anguishing about the size, when if you scroll down the original listing all the measurements are given in exemplary detail? I quite like it, but it references 1920's to me, not 1990's.

Peachyscream · 22/12/2024 02:04

You need to get yourself to some Pakistani or indian shops. You’ll love the embroidery

Gnomi21 · 22/12/2024 02:12

Please buy it, you will be happy.
I have 2 unworn, terribly ornate wedding dresses in my wardrobe. My partner is bemused as i dont actually want to get married, i just wanted the dresses (20 years apart). I dont even like the first one that much now but i loved it at the time. Its yards and yards of moire silk with marie antoinette sleeves and bows.

BraverSoul · 22/12/2024 02:43

I love it!! Go for it. And PLEASE don't take any fashion advice from Gall10 whatever you do 😁

RedRock41 · 22/12/2024 08:08

Create a mood board. Daydream all you want but gosh, don’t waste your money. The dress isn’t that nice and more importantly work on making you happy in the New Year. Marriage can be hard work. It’s not how many of us hoped. Oscar Wilde said there are two tragedies in life. The first is not getting what you want and the second is getting it. So if it happens great. If not remember that it wouldn’t be the fairytale you imagine in all likelihood.

Life's too short to satisfy the readers of The Times or the Torygraph. If you want it - buy it

I really like the bodice, but the white skirt is a bit cheap and nasty looking, to me anyway. I love the all-grey version, though.

Waitingforspring81 · 22/12/2024 14:36

Not my taste either

thegirlwithemousyhair · 22/12/2024 15:09

I agree about jinxing it. My niece bought an expensive wedding dress for a wedding she thought would happen and it never did.

Sorry to say but yeah it is more than a little tacky....

What an asinine remark. Unbalanced citizen more like.

I don't read either and the OP is not asking whether to buy it but dont let that get in the way of your ideological claptrap.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 22/12/2024 21:47

I'd get it, you would fit a LOT of toilet rolls under that.

ZippyCat · 23/12/2024 05:17

It's awful
