To be worried about what the Labour government will do next?

Scenicgirl · 17/12/2024 22:46

Let's be honest, Labour has been a massive disappointment for this country, pissing off the pensioners with taking away the WFA, the farmers, NI changes which impact employers, immigration etc and today refusing compensation to the WASPI women after they ridiculed the Conservatives when they didn't commit to a solution. Don't we deserve better than this constant shit show of lies and deceptions which were clearly spouted out purely to gain power?
For the 1st time in my life, I worry about where we are heading.

The only this is that the hard left people are delighted and won’t bat an eyelid because what about the tories? You are not wrong OP people are exhausted. We still have not got the school bill with the added VAT. Waiting to see if I can buy some Xmas presents for my kids. The bastards threw the tax mid year and it seems it has been a nightmare to implement as well. I loathe these assholes who would destroy what is left in the name of their stupid ideology.

The VAT on school fees was trailed about a year ago. Weren't you paying attention? Can't you add 20% into a sum? Do you need to go back to school yourself?

The bloody hyperbole - "waiting to see if I can buy the kids' Christmas presents" 🎻

ilovesooty · 17/12/2024 23:49

hard left people 😂😂

I know it's laughable and pathetic all at the same time.
All of us hard left people can see further than the end of our nose, unlike you@dottiehens

PerditaLaChien · 18/12/2024 00:08

Nope. Agree with all the decisions so far.

This

If the school fees are leaving you that skint you could never afford it in the first place

ExtraOnions · 18/12/2024 00:10

There us a huge deficit that needs to be paid for, created by a Populist government, too afraid to make tough choices to spent money like water.

WFA should be means tested
Farmers should pay inheritance tax, like all other businesses
NI rises are needed to help to increase NHS spending

Let’s see where the economy is in 5 years

Livelovebehappy · 18/12/2024 00:12

I agree OP. But all we can do is roll with it atm, and try and get to the next GE without too much damage being done. They’ll be a one term party, and then hopefully we can get someone in who actually listens to the electorate.

NarcoosseeLover · 18/12/2024 00:14

I don’t think you’re unreasonable op. Labour are proving to be useless and embarrassing. Just another bunch of self serving MP’s, to follow the last lot of self serving MP’s. Their priorities are bizarre, they have lied, or at least omitted the details we needed to make an informed decision at the election.
But I’m getting the sense that they’re all the same.

In fact a government that scorched the earth on purpose knowing that they'd lose the election, wouldn't have to face any consequences, and the unpopular decisions would have to be implemented by someone else.

Let’s all hope Giles and Arabella get their ski passes this year after all 🤞

Uokhunnnn · 18/12/2024 00:20

I can’t say I disagree with you OP - with a couple of exceptions I’ve been disappointed by this government so far. Nothing compared to the absolute shitshow their predecessors gave us though!

For the 1st time in my life, I worry about where we are heading.

I see. So you weren't worried when you had a Prime Minister who was prepared to let the bodies pile up, and couldn't be bothered to turn up at crisis meetings in the early days of Covid? You didn't worry when he was constantly caught out lying? Or when he pleaded guilty to a criminal offence? You weren't concerned when a government that knew Brexit would be disastrous called a referendum about it and then didn't bother to set the facts out properly for the electorate? Let alone at the horrendous mess they made in negotiating the Brexit agreement?

And I guess you thought that Truss tanking the economy overnight and then running for cover was no cause for concern whatsoever?

It's very much selective amnesia. Same with the farmer IHT threads.
With regards to WASPI I'm just a couple of years too young but should I not be entitled to a payment too? Retirement age was 60 when I started work at 16.
They just can't afford it at the moment.

You are not wrong OP. However, Mumsnet is not a place to discuss it. Let's "them " enjoy their echo chambers.

Dearie me 😂Echo chambers ie the truth. I thought we could discuss anything we wanted on here. Or is it only if it suits your agenda?

Cry me a fucking river.

Tearsricochet · 18/12/2024 00:30

Ah yes a Tory voter unhappy with Labour.

I’ve seen so many posts about Labour and the school fees just like this.

How could they do this to us?! They cry.

How can they tax rich farmers! They cry.

Rich pensioners who have more money to spare than the average working family claiming destitution because the fuel alllowance is no longer available for them. Appalling.

They might be pissing some people off while they sort out the utter mess caused by years of the conservatives being in power.

I am sick of people moaning when there are people LITERALLY going to bed hungry. There are thousands of children living in real poverty yet here we have a small minority moaning about the impact on them and their lifestyle.

Huonneyywisshful · 18/12/2024 00:33

it is worrying. Now they want to change how local councils are run. It’s a shit show, definitely.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Wow.

Maybe think of the people
who don’t even earn £20k per year never mind have £20k disposable income to spend on school fees for one child.

Think of the people who can’t put food on the table for their kids because they are living in real
poverty. Where their wage isn’t enough to cover the basics.

Do you have no fucking shame?

This.

Labour have been in charge for what - six months?

It's going to take at least two terms in office to even make a dent in sorting out the mess the Tories left.

Unfortunately, this country is packed to the gunwales with ignorant, fuck-you-I'm-alright-Jack types who swallow right-wing propaganda and who simply can't process that we're all going to have to make sacrifices if we want a better country for future generations.

Tearsricochet · 18/12/2024 00:40

And I am far from hard left. But the lack of self awareness from
the richest in society who have no clue about those who have a hard slog every single day is starting to do my head in.

Waken up!! You aren’t hard off because you need to pay more school fees.

Tearsricochet · 18/12/2024 00:41

And do you genuinely all believe that Labour’s short time in government is the reason why things are so shit? No it’s years and years of conservative policies.

Runninginthenight · 18/12/2024 00:45

Just look at France just now. Budget deficit soaring, government collapsing all because no one has the balls to tell the French that retiring at 62 is not affordable.

Im so glad Keir Starmer ditched the WFA - my parents and their friends have been literally dining out on theirs for years. What do many fail to understand is that Agricultural IHT relief is one of the biggest tax loopholes going. And the WASPI women ought to have researched their retirement properly. We can’t just keep on chucking money about like the Tories did. Some fiscal responsibility is needed. Glad Keir is taking the bill by the horns.

I do think VAT on school fees will damage state schooling badly though. Labour have no idea how many parents of sen kids put them in private rather than fight to get them the proper support in state, and these will be the first children to move back.

Feelingstrange2 · 17/12/2024 22:55

Constant shit show of lies and deceptions? Could be talking about the 14 years of Tories there!

Look, they've had to make decisions. I wouldn't have done a few of their choices but the alternatives would probably have been unpopular too - balancing budgets never are as much fun as splashing the cash.

Interesting you are worried now and not when Tories were in power!

This current Labour govt is starting to resemble the Tories more than the Tories!

Just seems they're playing a really fun (not!) game of 'who shall we rob/tax next'. I fail to see what they've done that's positive.

And as for giving Sadiq Khan a knighthood!? Starmer is literally trolling Londoners at this point.

I don't think I can even be bothered debating your OP.
Let's be honest not everyone sees it as you do and not everyone is disappointed or describes recent decisions as a shit show.

Plenty of people do agree with the OP and feel the same way actually.

So they might. But there are people who don't agree, and the OP posted as though everyone would and should be in agreement with her.
