I'm 36 and according to my sister my car ages me ten years. Wtaf?! It's an Audi a6 estate. So yes, a "mum car". But is this a thing?!

OP posts:

46 and I drive a Peugeot Partner - car with seats during winter, and a microcamper for the summer!

Kim82 · 15/12/2024 18:06

42 and drive a Skoda Superb.

StormingNorman · 15/12/2024 18:06

46, funky little Fiat 500 for nipping about and an Aston Martin. Massively jealous of the PPs with Defenders and Discos!

Me too, the same Fabia and coincidentally my last car was a Seat Leon.
Sometimes I drive DH’s Karoq. I’m 61 though.

What a coincidence! We got the Seat brand new as a lease car but I wanted my own. Just something small for going to work and other stuff when DH needs a car as he plays in a band etc. I saw the Fabia and loved it. It was within my smallish budget and I’d driven one before as a rental. I think they are good cars. And it’s very cute! What’s the Karoq like?

  1. A Nissan Qashqai and a Jaguar F-Type. One for practicality and one for fun.

Bil has an F type, beautiful car and a lovely drive. Definitely a fun car.

TheFairyCaravan · 15/12/2024 18:08

53 Škoda Enyaq Estate. They say it’s an estate but it’s more of an SUV. I love it.

Iheartmysmart · 15/12/2024 18:09

I’m 57 and drive an ancient Smart ForTwo convertible. Not the fastest but great fun and makes me smile every time I drive it.

51, Tesla Y

Oooh, interesting.

When you bought it, did you think 'it's a great car and I don't care that the logo looks like an IUD' or did you not notice? I was stuck behind one in a traffic jam recently (I'm 65 and drive a Toyota Corolla hybrid) and started to wonder... TIA.

AlliBallyBoo · 15/12/2024 18:10

45 Tesla Model 3

DazedAndConfused321 · 15/12/2024 18:10

Early 40s and have a Toyota Estima for our 'million' kids (as we're reminded!) 😂

An estate is a dad car surely?!

Yes! And if you have a particularly nice one it's a daddy/zaddy car! I have a 330e estate which is pretty hot but I sometimes wish I could have got the saloon version or an SUV to be a bit more sexy female but practicality will always win. OP, a6 falls into this category.

Figaroducksandcattos · 15/12/2024 18:12

55, a Nissan Figaro

Topseyt123 · 15/12/2024 18:12

I'm 58. My car is a Hyundai I20.

A large SUV is much more a "mum" car. With the exception of Range Rovers which are "wanker in a Gillet" cars

Edited

😁 I drive a Toyota Prado, but I live in the literal African Bush and drive rocky dirt tracks more than roads. But I am a mum, so it's definitely a mum car. And I sometimes even wear a Gillet - now I'm panicking that pushes me in wanker territory. Either the car or the gillet will have to go.

LaurieFairyCake · 15/12/2024 18:13
  1. A 21 year old Honda.

I'm 36 and drive a Renault captur don't know if that counts as a mum car!

My mum drives this so I'd say yes😆 but I have a Clio, which isn't any better!

SiobhanSharpe · 15/12/2024 18:15

67, Audi A5 Coupé. Had several Audis over the last 30-odd years, A4s, A6 Avants and this is my second A5. Love it.

ExceededUsefulEconomicLife · 15/12/2024 18:15

There is a Facebook group called only wagons which is just people posting how superior/amazing their estates are! Mine has a teeny boot for the battery but is still good for a tip run.

JohnofWessex · 15/12/2024 18:15

I'm 62, 57 plate Kia Ceed Estate 1.4 petrol.

Domestic Facilities management thinks its slow but I have taken it over the A361 North Devon Link Road at a steady 60 - required a lot of driving but it can be done

TickingAlongNicely · 15/12/2024 17:26

Our cars are a landrover and a Renault clio. Had them since we were early to mid thirties.

Apparently the clio is an old lady car (old one, not the modern version!)

An old Clio is a classic teenage first car! I had the old one as my first car, then we got the new one as a couple.

godmum56 · 15/12/2024 18:16

71 and I have got a RAV4. Had 4x4 since the 90's and estates before that. I live rurally and don't give a flying fart what people think of my car choices

Isthiscorrect · 15/12/2024 18:17

62 RAV4 hybrid and a Toyota Prado 2005

TheYeaSayer · 15/12/2024 18:18

53, KIA Sportage. Extra sporty version.
I love it, it’s my favourite ever car (had a few!) and I even wash and hoover it regularly… never did that much before.
