I'm 36 and according to my sister my car ages me ten years. Wtaf?! It's an Audi a6 estate. So yes, a "mum car". But is this a thing?!

OP posts:

44 - Mini Cooper S sport. Totally impractical with DD14 and DS12 but my now exDH drove the family car (Skoda Octavia) and when we split we kept our respective cars. I do love my car though!

frequencytwiglet · 15/12/2024 22:45

30 - Range Rover. It suits my gilet wearing (!) rural lifestyle. Plenty of space for my fleet of dogs. Handles flooding well. Great off road. Great towing capabilities. Comfortable. I accept that makes me out of favour with most!

CandyCane457 · 15/12/2024 22:47

I’m 35 and drive a white Nissan juke. I’m child free if that means anything!

Sortumn · 15/12/2024 22:49

I'm 47 and drive an estate car. It's perfect. It has heated seats and fits all my things in it.

Lecc · 15/12/2024 22:56

I have a new Kia Sportage and I am 55. I paid cash with my savings and it replaced my 11 year old Ford Focus Titanium diesel car.
I quite like the Kia but I definitely preferred my Focus, it was fun to drive and very nippy. Nevertheless, I will probably be driving the Kia for the next 11 years until I can afford something else.
Just to be clear, I have never owned a Range Rover or a gilet. I have never even worn a gilet. I don't understand them.

neilyoungismyhero · 15/12/2024 23:00

Fiat 500C Twin Air - worst car I've ever driven tbh but I love it ...it's nippy and fun ...72.

Gobimanchurian · 15/12/2024 23:07

I drive a Vauxhall corsa 1.2L and I'm almost 49. TBF I've never driven status cars - mostly people carriers with 3 young kids, now cheap and cheerful runaround with 3 learner/new drivers to insure. Maybe my next car will be less functional and more about me 🤷‍♀️

YourOchreSloth · 15/12/2024 23:11

I'm 44, DH 52. We share a Honda Jazz and Hyundai i30.

WasteOfPaint · 15/12/2024 23:15

44 with a Toyota Auris.

Fidgety31 · 15/12/2024 23:22

Mitsubishi l200 - pick up truck . I just like big cars . Aged 46

InveterateWineDrinker · 15/12/2024 23:27

49, Dacia Jogger hybrid.

I've done the sporty Italian ones, done the luxury German ones. Not going back either. This one is not only absolutely perfect for my family needs, it's my way of saying that I just don't need others' validation of my car choices any more.

A nissan note or a really old Peugeot 107. I don't get the car status thing. I just like a car that gets from a to b. New Audi / new Mercedes / Range Rover - I know people love these cars but I don't understand the appeal. So lagw and expensive and samey. I am 48 and definitely in grumpy peri menopausal woman territory I expect.

I have Nissan Note it is my shit tip and absolutely love it. So far it has been 100% reliable, have driven over 100,000 and still reliable, a few dents and scrapes but my best friend 😅

Uberbeeboo · 15/12/2024 23:41

I'm 46 and drive an Audi Q4 sportback E-Tron. It's my first electric car and it's great.

godmum56 · 16/12/2024 06:51

I love a panda.

Drive a Fiat500L currently but will prob go back to a panda.

Best car ever.
Drives everywhere, small enough to park in cities, big volume inside. I just changed the battery, it was the original one dated 2017. It also is automatic (quite rare).
I truly love it.

Petergriffinschins · 16/12/2024 07:42

I’m 44 and we’ve had the same 107 for 12 years now. It’s battered to fuck and about 16 years old, I don’t know how it’s going but it’s never failed an MOT.

We also bought a 12 year old 308 estate this year as we have got a massive dog and you can’t fit a handbag a in the 107, let alone a golden retriever.

we really don’t give a shit about cars. I think that shines through to be honest.

TimeForATerf · 16/12/2024 07:46

godmum56 · 15/12/2024 19:41

the original one was my first ever car. This one. ....well not this exact one but the same model.

Omg, I never knew the Countryman had an original version, I love that!

now you have made me feel unimaginably old....especially as I was 35 when I passed my test!!

What are door cards?

The inside of the car door. On a nice car they cover the whole door with a faux leather/plastic material usually.. On a cheap car it’s 50:50. You can still see the metal on the inside of the door with a side pocket for all your crap

bugalugs45 · 16/12/2024 09:33

My brother is granted not a female , but 40 and in a very successful job earning a 6 figure sum. He drives a Citroen c1, a bean can as he calls it , but literally does form his house to train station, he can park in smallest spaces and quote unquote wouldn't be devastated if it was to get hit or damaged .
It's not his only car ( he has a boy toy ) but is definitely his every day one.
