To have cancelled this order and sent a firm message?

I recently started using vinted again as I wanted to have a good clear out before Christmas, mainly clothes for a couple of quid. I work full time so can't just run off to the post office every time someone places an order, which I imagine is the same for most people using the app. Anyway, this woman bought a jumper on Wednesday night (didn't message me beforehand to check when I could post) and then sent me a message the next morning asking me to post the item ASAP. I just responded with "sorry can't post until the weekend as I'm working all week" and left it that. Then this morning and afternoon she chased me. AIBU to think this is extreme? Over a £3 jumper? I had packaged the order and was planning to post it today (shop is open until 9pm) but she pissed me off so much I just cancelled it. I also sent her a message pointing out that I actually had until the 19th to post the item and maybe she should have asked first when I could post before buying it.

Thankfully, I don't come across buyers like this very often but my god she's done my nut in!

AIBU?

You’re not wrong, you have a timescale to post things and she should’ve messaged you in advance if she needed it sooner to see if it was possible.

Newyearscoming · 14/12/2024 17:37

Just to add, I know I said I'd post the item on the weekend but I never gave a specific day/time so I still think she was over the top hounding me and sending multiple messages.

YANBU but you are selling to the Amazon Prime generation who expect same day delivery.

Can you put on your item description that you can only mail out at the weekend to manage expectations?

Newyearscoming · 14/12/2024 17:51

@BibbityBobbityToo good idea, hopefully that will make a difference. Luckily I don't come across buyers like this often. I think most people who use the app understand that it's not peoples full time jobs and that they're just trying to make some extra £££. I just wanted to see if I was being unreasonable but clearly not so that's good to hear!

It’s your perogative but I think you’ve shot yourself in the foot by cancelling - I would’ve just ignored her today, not replied and posted it when it was convenient for me as long as it was within the timeframe set by vinted

ItOnlyTakesTwoMinutes · 14/12/2024 17:56

I brought a couple things this week and then asked the sellers if they could send in time for Christmas. They were all so kind and did it! I’ve very little money so was so pleased I could get a few purchases.

Newyearscoming · 14/12/2024 18:01

@User364837 possibly but I just couldn't be bothered with her constant chasing for the sake of £3. I also find that buyers who hound/chase then make up issues or complain once the item arrives.

OP posts:
Newyearscoming · 14/12/2024 18:03

@ItOnlyTakesTwoMinutes thats really nice but not everyone can do that if they work, have commitments etc. I still think it's best to check before buying just in case the seller can't send it out straight away, saves any disappointment.

I do see what you’re saying, and it sounds really annoying, I just think at this time of year a little flexibility would be really appreciated.

Goodafternoonmillie · 14/12/2024 18:13

I had something similar but other way around - I had bought something and it was in the locker waiting for collection, had planned to pick it up ASAP around work & commitments which was still within the timeframe allowed but the seller kept messaging me saying “hi can u collect it today”. 🙄

Stupidwolf · 14/12/2024 18:22

Vented is the bain of my existence...oh lord I'd only I didnt need the money

CyanPeer · 14/12/2024 18:26

I don't blame you.

I have updated my profile to state that I whilst I will attempt to deliver as quickly as possible, Vinted isn't my priority. It really isn't and if that means it takes me a bit longer to clear items then so be it. I'm really not in a rush.

I recently blocked a buyer for persistently sending me messages asking to discount an item that was listed for £2.50.

Falseshamrok · 14/12/2024 18:29

Nah I think what you did was quite shitty.
why cancel it? She only asked.
and you don’t know her reasons for wanting/needing it.

you cancelling it was spiteful.

decorativecushions · 14/12/2024 18:33

I'd have probably done the same OP.

People on vinted demanding that I play to their timescale piss me off. I have a certain number of days to post the item that they're buying very cheaply off me so I'll do it on my time thanks.

It's the same vibe as people on marketplace who ask if i can deliver an item I'm giving away for free. And then getting pissed off when I say no.

There are loads of CFs on Vinted - I advertised an brand new item for which I had no use for £1: several people "liked" it, but I got the impression they were waiting for me to offer a discount - it's not worth packing anything up and taking it to the post office for £1:

Did you read the OP? She asked multiple times after bring told it couldn’t be posted until later, it’s irrelevant she needed it, that’s annoying & rude.

Crunchymum · 14/12/2024 18:50

When / if I'm unable to post immediately, I add this info to my listing IE "currently post items on Tuesday and Saturday" so it's been stipulated before the person even buys.

When I've needed something quickly, I've always asked before I've purchased.

Spirallingdownwards · 14/12/2024 18:51

I think you have been a bit OTT cancelling. She may want it for a specific event or even a Christmas present if money is tight. She was probably just anxious about it arriving in tike for what she needs it for.

Why advertise it for £1 then? 🤷‍♀️ people like stuff then come back to it, not necessarily wanting a discount at all, probably just saving a few things to come back to later, I do it all the time.

No she asked once initially and then twice on the day OP said she was posting it and then only because OP didn't replym

There’s no need to do this, vinted gives a timeline for postage on listings as standard.

Yes I know but I want people to know to expect it towards the end of the timeline / to manage expectations.

I've had some sellers send my parcels within a few hours (admittedly this isn't the norm and nor do they seem to arrive any faster)

Newyearscoming · 14/12/2024 19:04

@Falseshamrok well, yes, you're right, I don't know why she needed the item, but is that my fault? If she had said beforehand "I need this item before Christmas or whatever" I could have told her that I'd try and post it as soon as possible but couldn't make any guarantees due to work/busy schedule etc. I still think it's up to the buyer to let the seller know if they need an item quickly, and before buying it too.

I've had this too! Seller messaging me to say the item has arrived and they 'hope everything's OK' because I hadn't yet collected it 24 hrs after it arrived. I work full time and have a toddler, collecting vinted parcels immediately is not my priority.

That said, I do feel bad when I'm the seller and it's got to nearly a week after the purchase when I'm finally sending it, but sometimes it just works out that way due to the way my week looks, especially if they've chosen a postage option where I have to actually get to a shop rather than the InPost lockers. I've turned off Evri now due to this.

Maybe she just didn’t think to do that,

it was still spiteful. You just wanted to punish her.
