To have cancelled this order and sent a firm message?

I recently started using vinted again as I wanted to have a good clear out before Christmas, mainly clothes for a couple of quid. I work full time so can't just run off to the post office every time someone places an order, which I imagine is the same for most people using the app. Anyway, this woman bought a jumper on Wednesday night (didn't message me beforehand to check when I could post) and then sent me a message the next morning asking me to post the item ASAP. I just responded with "sorry can't post until the weekend as I'm working all week" and left it that. Then this morning and afternoon she chased me. AIBU to think this is extreme? Over a £3 jumper? I had packaged the order and was planning to post it today (shop is open until 9pm) but she pissed me off so much I just cancelled it. I also sent her a message pointing out that I actually had until the 19th to post the item and maybe she should have asked first when I could post before buying it.

Thankfully, I don't come across buyers like this very often but my god she's done my nut in!

AIBU?

I think cancelling it was a bit of an overreaction and a bit mean, though she should have been a bit more patient she probably wanted it for Christmas

CrazyGoatLady · 14/12/2024 21:05

It was maybe a bit of a knee jerk reaction but there are a lot of CFs on Vinted I've found. I liked something on there and the seller messaged me several times going "do you want it" and I unliked it because of the unwanted hassling. I think I'd have gone along the lines of a firm message saying "sorry, as I said, I can't post it until X date due to work, and if you continue to hassle me to post sooner I will cancel the order" and warned her first, but honestly don't blame you thinking that behaviour is a red flag.

HollyKnight · 14/12/2024 21:00

I said the CFs are the ones who take a week to send it and then badger the buyer to collect it. Maybe the buyer has work too and can't collect it until their day off.

What sort of a weird system is this? Here the seller posts the item to the buyer's address.

Doggymummar · 14/12/2024 21:07

I always try to post same day/within 24 hours and hope for the same of others, which on the whole they do. I wouldn't be bothered if they didn't. If I need something today I'll walk to the shop. If I need something tomorrow I'll order next day delivery. VINTED is usually for expensive pieces to add to my wardrobe not something quick to fill an an immediate need.

Most people want it to a locker or corner shop as they are not at home to receive

YANBU but you are selling to the Amazon Prime generation who expect same day delivery.

Can you put on your item description that you can only mail out at the weekend to manage expectations?

So pay Amazon Prime prices.

Like a PP said, it gets sent to a collection point for you to collect it. Otherwise it will get returned to the sender after (usually) 2 failed delivery attempts.

Supersimkin7 · 14/12/2024 21:22

Has everyone blocked CFs?

I’ve had more than a couple of startling correspondents who got instantly junked so I’ve sort of lost count.

Percentage-wise, greedy guts v buyers feels a touch high on Vinted.

FutureFry · 14/12/2024 21:30

The thing is, this could have been someone with a learning disability, or someone going through a lot of stress in their lives.

They've been annoying, but you don't have to get worked up about it.

A simple "No, I'm posting on Sunday" is all you needed to do. Cancelling it was cruel as they were clearly very keen to receive it.

scotstars · 14/12/2024 21:36

YANBU buyers like this make Vinted hard work. If they need an item quick message before buying. It should all be automated yet I still get messages ftom both buyers asking if I have posted or sellers asking if I've collected - if they check the app they know the answer!

MyLadyGreensleeves · 14/12/2024 21:37

I think you played a mean trick.

Well thank goodness I live somewhere with easier options for receiving goods.

AliceMcK · 15/12/2024 00:33

I disagree buyers should message to find out when you can post an item. If I buy something I expect it to be posted within the specified vinted timeframes. I’ve never needed anything urgently from vinted. Obviously if they need something urgently that’s different, I’ve had that once, the lady bought it quickly then asked if I could urgently post. I assumed she wanted to buy before anyone else and was worried I might not have responded fast enough.

CyanPeer · 15/12/2024 08:00

Unless the seller has very limited postal options (as a seller you can choose what you offer) the buyer can normally choose to either collect from a local collection point or have it delivered to their home.

I have a job that requires me to be on site at short notice so can't guarantee being home for deliveries, but there is a collection point nearby - I choose home delivery for small items that will fit through the letterbox and collection for large items. Much easier.

@Falseshamrok I think punish is a bit silly. It's really not that deep, she's a complete stranger to me. I couldn't be bothered with the constant hounding, it just wasn't worth it for the sake of £3 that's all.

Honestly, the fact you had packaged it up and then decided to cancel it because you were annoyed with the buyer… and a few of your comments to Falseshamrok is painting a picture of someone who is on a short fuse with others. I have adhd, we can have trouble processing our emotions so short fuses is something that I recognise.

Cragbag · 15/12/2024 17:42

What you did was understandable, and the result of feeling stressed out by her pressuring. You're not a business, you're a member of the public selling an item they don't want any more. You're not Amazon or a big corporation. You did what you felt at the time. It's not for anyone to judge you. She had driven you to the edge and you snapped.

Mel2023 · 15/12/2024 17:56

I don’t think I’d have cancelled the order, rather just ignored them after setting your delivery timescales in the first message and just sent the parcel when I could within Vinted timescales. Why lose your money for the sake of someone being annoying? But YANBU for getting fed up with someone who doesn’t take note of what you said in the first place.

You have a certain time frame to post things in on Vinted and a buyer should check with you if they need it earlier before placing the order.

The buyer did nothing wrong asking if you could send it earlier, but should have accepted that you couldn’t and that be that. If it was a dealbreaker they get it asap they should have asked before ordering and not pestered you after you’d explained it wasn’t possible. You’re not a business, just someone doing this alongside work and life.

WillimNot · 15/12/2024 18:02

I buy a lot on Vinted and just recently I've noticed sellers taking quite a considerable time to send.

When I sold on eBay, I was self employed, with two young DCs, and a carer for one of them. However, if someone paid me before 2pm, I would send the item the same day.

I really hate waiting for sellers to send.

And it's not on the buyer to ask when you may send it, I recall a lot of eBay sellers early on used to specify when they would send, maybe put that in adverts from now on?

YABU and I wouldn't be surprised if the buyer contacts Vinted to say you've cancelled for stupid reasons.

Vinted gives you a certain amount of time to send an item. In effect that is the SLA.

IMO, if a buyer wants the item earlier than this they should enquire with the seller before buyer.

At the end of the day, I'm selling items for maximum £5, often less. My nearest drop off points are a car journey away, so I post around my lifestyle. If I happen to be WFH for a few days then I am not going to go out of my way to post something early because someone had bought a £2 jumper. It would cost me more in petrol.

Sorry, but I do think people waiting a week to post are being a CF. I buy a lot from both our national auction site and ebay, and the majority of people send the goods very quickly. It's also very easy here, you can book a courier on the site (both for goods you have sold and also anything else you want to send to someone), leave the parcel on your doorstep and it gets picked up the next day - which I realise wouldn't work in the UK, but it's brilliant here. However, even before that system I would make the effort to send things as soon as possible - even though I worked full-time.

Why? You are given a window to post. You are allowed to post anytime in that window. That is the point of the window. I always try and post within 48 hours as I am lucky to have all the relevant shops close by but if I didn’t they would have to wait. Sometimes if you have multiple items for sale it makes sense to group them and do one journey a week rather than keep going back and forwards.

Vynalbob · 15/12/2024 18:21

Agree with a pp, you're right but ultra clear about postage in the messages might cut this down a bit....not completely unfortunately, I had someone trry to barter down my shipping cost after buying the item (with clear costs)....not worth the hassle I'd have cancelled too.

Laurmolonlabe · 15/12/2024 18:33

Really you should put a note on your items that you only post at the weekend- some people expect much quicker delivery than that, it being Christmas it could easily take 10 or 12 days to get to her-that is pretty slow.

Tink3rbell30 · 15/12/2024 18:39

Cancelling is childish and spiteful.

passmethebiscuit · 15/12/2024 18:43

NoahsTortoise · 14/12/2024 19:15

I've had this too! Seller messaging me to say the item has arrived and they 'hope everything's OK' because I hadn't yet collected it 24 hrs after it arrived. I work full time and have a toddler, collecting vinted parcels immediately is not my priority.

That said, I do feel bad when I'm the seller and it's got to nearly a week after the purchase when I'm finally sending it, but sometimes it just works out that way due to the way my week looks, especially if they've chosen a postage option where I have to actually get to a shop rather than the InPost lockers. I've turned off Evri now due to this.

i have messaged like this before now though as the seller never collected and now its coming back to me and vinted app says it will be 10 days and if i am out when its delivered i will need to collect from the Inpost warehouse. Its never coming back is it, and i could have done with the money. not a priority for a buyer but if you dont collect then explain why rather than you just dont have time…maybe dont order to a collection box?

OPRM1919 · 15/12/2024 21:15

I sold a baby boys' outfit for about £1.50. Before the buyer bought the item they put an offer in and asked if I could post ASAP. I said yes. They waited until the offer had nearly expired to pay, the outfit sat waiting in a locker for 3 days to be collected and the buyer never posted any feedback. Very strange!
