To have cancelled this order and sent a firm message?

I recently started using vinted again as I wanted to have a good clear out before Christmas, mainly clothes for a couple of quid. I work full time so can't just run off to the post office every time someone places an order, which I imagine is the same for most people using the app. Anyway, this woman bought a jumper on Wednesday night (didn't message me beforehand to check when I could post) and then sent me a message the next morning asking me to post the item ASAP. I just responded with "sorry can't post until the weekend as I'm working all week" and left it that. Then this morning and afternoon she chased me. AIBU to think this is extreme? Over a £3 jumper? I had packaged the order and was planning to post it today (shop is open until 9pm) but she pissed me off so much I just cancelled it. I also sent her a message pointing out that I actually had until the 19th to post the item and maybe she should have asked first when I could post before buying it.

Thankfully, I don't come across buyers like this very often but my god she's done my nut in!

AIBU?

I would just have ignored her and posted it when I planned to (within the timeframe stated). If someone said they needed it urgently I would try and accommodate but if they hadn’t done that then they are getting it in the stated timeframe! I wouldn’t have cancelled the order, I think that’s an over reaction myself.

i have messaged like this before now though as the seller never collected and now its coming back to me and vinted app says it will be 10 days and if i am out when its delivered i will need to collect from the Inpost warehouse. Its never coming back is it, and i could have done with the money. not a priority for a buyer but if you dont collect then explain why rather than you just dont have time…maybe dont order to a collection box?

But you have 3 days to collect from an InPost Locker? If it was the final day I'd understand a message but to message on day 1? Not everyone is available to go and collect straight away.

@OoohChristmastreeee she bought the jumper on the 11th and I planned to post the item on the 14th (even though technically I had until the 19th) so I'm not sure what you mean by "waiting until the last minute"

OP posts:
Newyearscoming · 16/12/2024 15:06

@OoohChristmastreeee I don't work 24 hours a day no, but I do have other commitments outside of work which means I can't just run off to the post office/shop the second someone places an order.

14th doesn’t even count when you are posting it so late that it won’t even get picked up that day and parcels don’t get collected on Sundays. So essentially you were not bothering to post it til 16th.

Don’t we all, I doubt your life is any busier then anyone else’s but we manage to post items out when they are purchased.

Newyearscoming · 16/12/2024 15:11

I'm not really fussed about the review tbh. The jumper re-sold about an hour after I uploaded it so all good.

She was planning to post it after it was purchased, 3 days in fact (which is well within the 7 day window).

Tarraleah · 16/12/2024 15:35

wow

all this anger and bitterness over a £3 jumper? I am glad the majority of people on Vinted are quite decent. There's sadly always some thiefs and CF, but the OP is the first one to take it upon themselves to "give lessons".

I can't stand the "be kind" motto, but why being unpleasant when you don't have to.

LadyGaGasPokerFace · 16/12/2024 19:41

I purchased an item on eBay on the 5th. I messaged them at the weekend as I’d paid extra for postage (not like it was free postage), apparently it’s now posted. I wasn’t expecting to wait 9 days for my item. If it doesn’t come or is ‘lost’ I won’t be impressed.
I think a few days is fine. It’s not Amazon.

Bowies · 17/12/2024 02:42

If you had responded you would be posting it on the 14th, agree you with PP you should have followed through and done that, not cancelled just because she messaged you and you were feeling irritable about it and your busy schedule.

Newyearscoming · 17/12/2024 11:29

@Bowies I just saw it as a red flag and assumed there would be issues once she'd received the item.

With vinted as the seller if you only post on certain days of the week you're meant to put that in your item description - because vinted will tell the buyer that it will be delivered within 5 days!

Wexone · 18/12/2024 18:40

ForGreyKoala · 14/12/2024 20:51

Sorry, but I do think people waiting a week to post are being a CF. I buy a lot from both our national auction site and ebay, and the majority of people send the goods very quickly. It's also very easy here, you can book a courier on the site (both for goods you have sold and also anything else you want to send to someone), leave the parcel on your doorstep and it gets picked up the next day - which I realise wouldn't work in the UK, but it's brilliant here. However, even before that system I would make the effort to send things as soon as possible - even though I worked full-time.

Sorry not everyone has that facility. if your allowed a week to post your allowed a week to post. I travel alot for work am sometimes not at home to pack up stuff. i clearly say on my page can only post at weekend. vinted has only been set up here in Ireland. we don't have evri lockers etc where I live. we only have the post office. it opens till 1/5 during week and at 1pm Saturday

@BibbityBobbityToo good idea, hopefully that will make a difference. Luckily I don't come across buyers like this often. I think most people who use the app understand that it's not peoples full time jobs and that they're just trying to make some extra £££. I just wanted to see if I was being unreasonable but clearly not so that's good to hear!

It’s Christmas. Delivery times are more important, so help people out by stating your despatch timings.

CannotWaitForSummervibes · 19/12/2024 07:01

I regularly buy and sell stuff on Vinted. Honestly op, I think you were rude to cancel. You could have asked her first if she was ok with waiting or if she wanted to cancel. You over-reacted by just cancelling. I’d give you a very bad review on Vinted for this type of behaviour.

Also, if you know you can only post at the weekend, you should write this in the description so people know it’ll take you a while to post it if they buy it on a Monday or Tuesday. Given the timing, she was probably hoping to get it before Xmas. Just be clear upfront about your limited dispatch possibilities.

Cadburyscreamegg · 19/12/2024 07:14

I also had the other way round, I bought some straighteners for my daughter. OK they were expensive but literally I got the first msg within half hour of them getting delivered to the shop, she sent them the same day that I paid for them, but I was working late and then back in on the early, I had just got on the bus to go to work when they got delivered to the shop.. She asked me if I could go collect them, then next morning another msg, lunchtime another msg.. Then I collected them even tho I was so ill I didn't get chance to try them so I got another msg to send her the money. In the end I got up out of bed to try them just to send her the money and get rid of her. I left negative feedback coz she hounded me so much!!

Some people think everyone is sat at home doing nothing all day obv like them!! We work and have a life around buying and selling on vinted!!!

Babadookinthewardrobe · 19/12/2024 09:13

@Cadburyscreamegg - the counter argument is that you have decided you have time to take money from customers. If your work and busy life prevents sending the goods they have paid for within a reasonable timeframe then you shouldn’t be selling to customers.

The OP cancelling because she was chased up over tardy delivery is out of order.

The OP wasn't tardy. She was well within the posting timeframe.

Edited

I don’t think you can give a review for an order that’s cancelled, the OP already told the buyer when the item would be posted that was totally within the timescales.

You don’t need to specify things will be posted on x days, it’s all there on the order details how long a seller has to post things out, individual people aren’t Amazon and buyers need to realise this.
