To have cancelled this order and sent a firm message?

I recently started using vinted again as I wanted to have a good clear out before Christmas, mainly clothes for a couple of quid. I work full time so can't just run off to the post office every time someone places an order, which I imagine is the same for most people using the app. Anyway, this woman bought a jumper on Wednesday night (didn't message me beforehand to check when I could post) and then sent me a message the next morning asking me to post the item ASAP. I just responded with "sorry can't post until the weekend as I'm working all week" and left it that. Then this morning and afternoon she chased me. AIBU to think this is extreme? Over a £3 jumper? I had packaged the order and was planning to post it today (shop is open until 9pm) but she pissed me off so much I just cancelled it. I also sent her a message pointing out that I actually had until the 19th to post the item and maybe she should have asked first when I could post before buying it.

Thankfully, I don't come across buyers like this very often but my god she's done my nut in!

AIBU?

Did you read the OP? She asked multiple times after bring told it couldn’t be posted until later, it’s irrelevant she needed it, that’s annoying & rude.

Yes I read it, why else would I have replied?

the op had it packed up and ready to go but instead decided to punish the buyer for asking more than she wanted to be asked.

the op could have just ignore the messages and posted it when suited her, no problem. But she decided to be spiteful.

Newyearscoming · 14/12/2024 19:29

@Falseshamrok I think punish is a bit silly. It's really not that deep, she's a complete stranger to me. I couldn't be bothered with the constant hounding, it just wasn't worth it for the sake of £3 that's all.

Are you the buyer @Falseshamrok ? 😂

I suppose not everyone knows that Vinted is a 'slow' app if they don't use it much.

I've just done a couple of months of heavy selling and buying on ebay and Vinted and my god, I'll be glad to be done with traipsing to lockers, post offices and corner shops every few days.

Are you the buyer @Falseshamrok ? 😂

Nope just someone who thinks it’s shitty what you did, because you asked if you were being unreasonable. Or didn’t you realise not everyone has to agree with you?

Sparxdislike · 14/12/2024 20:00

I think the difficulty wi th vinted is I can sell something for a few pounds but with fees and post it becomes £8-£9. Some people are wanting things for Christmas. I don't think the buyer was unreasonable. I would have just said I can't post until the weekends I'm afraid would you still like the jumper?

As a buyer I have asked if things can be posted asap please and sellers have said yes or no politely. As a seller the same dependent on if I can. It doesn't bother me being asked.

Vented is the bain of my existence...oh lord I'd only I didnt need the money

I prefer it to e bay. E bay is much more annoying 🙈 I think on picking things up is because they don't get paid if they don't get collected. I can't always collect quickly either.

Newyearscoming · 14/12/2024 20:05

@Falseshamrok nope, there must be a special place in hell for people like me then 😉

Yeah, it’s a bit annoying but it’s probably a Christmas gift and she wanted to get it in time.

Cancelling isn’t worth it because it negatively affects your seller rating.

ItOnlyTakesTwoMinutes · 14/12/2024 17:56

I brought a couple things this week and then asked the sellers if they could send in time for Christmas. They were all so kind and did it! I’ve very little money so was so pleased I could get a few purchases.

Why didn't you ask before purchasing?

HollyKnight · 14/12/2024 20:27

Communication usually avoids situations like this. I don't badger sellers who say nothing and wait until the last day to post the items I have paid for. I just don't collect the item and hit the confirm button until the last minute in return, and I don't leave feedback. All of which is also allowed as per Vinted T&C. 😇

However, if the seller messages me after I've paid and says "Hi, I will post this first thing on Sat :)" I'm ok with that and will collect it asap and leave nice feedback.

There really are CF sellers out there who will wait a week before sending items and then harass you to collect them as soon as they reach the shop.

AlpacaMittens · 14/12/2024 20:27

YANBU. I was once reported to ebay and received a bad review over "delay". I had actually posted the item early, according to ebay's timelines. Some people are just morons.

AlpacaMittens · 14/12/2024 20:31

Oh I just remembered that time when a buyer messaged me to ask if they would have the item before Saturday. They had bought it Thursday night. Before Good Friday bank holiday. I replied "no".

SnowwDr0p · 14/12/2024 20:34

I just hope the buyer wasn't hoping for it before Christmas and can afford to order another item in its place without waiting for the refund. That would have been about £6.50 out of their bank account after postage and fees which for some people is a lot 😞

Alwayswonderedwhy · 14/12/2024 20:40

Yanbu. I had a buyer message me multiple times straight after buying something, they wanted to know when I was posting but didn't actually give me chance to reply. By the time I'd seen the messages they'd said they wanted a refund because I was ignoring them!
Turns out they didn't actually want a refund and threw a tantrum when I cancelled the order and then wanted to buy the item again, so I had to block them.

Katemax82 · 14/12/2024 20:41

I've never expected a seller to post before they have to...most do but I'm happy to wait

ForGreyKoala · 14/12/2024 20:45

BibbityBobbityToo · 14/12/2024 17:38

YANBU but you are selling to the Amazon Prime generation who expect same day delivery.

Can you put on your item description that you can only mail out at the weekend to manage expectations?

I agree about the message on the description. I've often seen it on an auction site here, and it's useful to know that someone only mails only certain days. Because I always mail anything I sell the day following payment I sort of expect everyone else to do the same and it's helpful to know if they don't.

What makes you think a seller waiting a week to post is being a CF? Most people work and post once a week. You're buying off people, not a business.
I don't message to say when I'm posting or expect others to let me know. I also don't care if people leave feedback, vinted still sends the money regardless as long as no issues have been raised.

Sorry, but I do think people waiting a week to post are being a CF. I buy a lot from both our national auction site and ebay, and the majority of people send the goods very quickly. It's also very easy here, you can book a courier on the site (both for goods you have sold and also anything else you want to send to someone), leave the parcel on your doorstep and it gets picked up the next day - which I realise wouldn't work in the UK, but it's brilliant here. However, even before that system I would make the effort to send things as soon as possible - even though I worked full-time.

Cherrysoup · 14/12/2024 20:51

Bit shit to cancel, cut your nose off to spite your face there, didn’t you? She should have asked before buying if she wanted it quickly. It does drive me a bit crazy if people don’t post til the last possible minute although I absolutely accept that they can do that.

Some seller asked for an extension til Tuesday of this week but still hasn’t posted so I went to cancel yesterday and she’s refused saying she’s already sent it. Clearly she lied, Vinted updates as soon as you post so Customer Service says it’ll be cancelled but it’s still on my orders. 🤬

They're referring to the sellers who are radio silent and wait until the last day to post the item (fine), but then chase you up to collect/confirm the minute they get a notification that the item has been delivered (not fine).

Thatcastlethere · 14/12/2024 20:58

Don't need to get so worked up about it. Just say no.
I don't know why people let vinted effect them so much.
Honestly people try and get good deals, people want fast postage.. it's just life.. and there are weirdos out there of course!
If anyone asks me to post ASAP I either do it because I happen to be in a position to. Or I don't and just say I can't until x day. Then I don't give it a second thought. They can cancel the order if they want to.
Really they should ask before they buy the item to check when you intend to post.

Recently I have had a spate of people asking after buying if I can make sure something gets to them by a certain date.
I usually post the same evening I get an order so I am a very fast shipper.. but I have absolutely no control over how long the post then takes. They act like it's somehow down to me! But I just explain I can't control that and I shipped it within hours of getting the order and that's all I can do for them.

I said the CFs are the ones who take a week to send it and then badger the buyer to collect it. Maybe the buyer has work too and can't collect it until their day off.

Butchyrestingface · 14/12/2024 21:00

Don’t think I would have cancelled over that. It’s unlikely to have sent her any “message” and, as they say, a dickhead in the hand, is worth two in the bush.
