To have cancelled this order and sent a firm message?

I recently started using vinted again as I wanted to have a good clear out before Christmas, mainly clothes for a couple of quid. I work full time so can't just run off to the post office every time someone places an order, which I imagine is the same for most people using the app. Anyway, this woman bought a jumper on Wednesday night (didn't message me beforehand to check when I could post) and then sent me a message the next morning asking me to post the item ASAP. I just responded with "sorry can't post until the weekend as I'm working all week" and left it that. Then this morning and afternoon she chased me. AIBU to think this is extreme? Over a £3 jumper? I had packaged the order and was planning to post it today (shop is open until 9pm) but she pissed me off so much I just cancelled it. I also sent her a message pointing out that I actually had until the 19th to post the item and maybe she should have asked first when I could post before buying it.

Thankfully, I don't come across buyers like this very often but my god she's done my nut in!

AIBU?

What sort of a weird system is this? Here the seller posts the item to the buyer's address.

Some buyers prefer to collect from a local store if they aren't going to be at home. I have sold a few bits lately on Vinted and had to wait until the item was collected.

CrazyGoatLady · 16/12/2024 06:11

Sorry, but I do think people waiting a week to post are being a CF.

I generally wouldn't, but there have been times when someone has bought something while I've been away for work, so I've messaged them and let them know I can't post for a few days. Vinted sellers aren't businesses. Most people are fine with it when I've informed them.

iridescentsnowflake · 16/12/2024 07:26

When you buy on vinted you get an email saying that sellers have 7 days to post, but to let them know if you’re on a tight schedule. This is what the buyer did 🤷‍♀️ I haven’t done this myself personally but I’ve been lucky in that sellers have always sent things out within a couple of days. If you can only send on a couple of days a week then I think this should be stated on your profile/ item description/ by message.

OoohChristmastreeee · 16/12/2024 07:33

Why would anyone ever send an email first to ask when can you post.
I expect the item to be posted asap. Working full time isn’t an excuse to wait until the last possible day to post. It’s laziness. You don’t work 24 hours a day, it takes 2 minutes to package up.

You need to write in the description you don’t bother posting until the last possible minute.

I had something similar but other way around - I had bought something and it was in the locker waiting for collection, had planned to pick it up ASAP around work & commitments which was still within the timeframe allowed but the seller kept messaging me saying “hi can u collect it today”. 🙄

I had this too, I work full time and it's not always possible to collect as soon as I get the text. I got a very arsey "please collect your parcel" No hello or niceties. I just sent an arsey reply back, marked it as received so they could get their money (only a couple of quid) and blocked.

carlottacandle · 16/12/2024 07:37

You'll get a vinted generated 1 star review now for cancelling, just to make you aware.

This is what the email says that purchasers get after buying an item, telling them to contact the buyer if they’re on a tight schedule… (beginning cropped as it mentions the item I bought).

I’ve had a few like this recently. One messaged multiple times a day for 2 days. I posted on the 3rd day.
I ignored her messages.

I have other buyers that ask when I can post by and I’m willing to go out of my way if they ask nicely.?

ASAP means as soon as possible, right?

When I first started using Vinted I had a drop off at the end of my street. ASAP was usually same day, sometimes next day if they ordered late.

I now live in an area with very few drop off points. My nearest ones are a 30 minute round journey (and one is only open 9-5) so I coordinate with when I am out and about, which can sometimes mean waiting a few days. Sometimes, but rarely, the full 7 days.

If you want fast service, you buy from a store and pay for premium delivery. You don't use Vinted.

TwirlyPineapple · 16/12/2024 08:00

Just turn off message notifications and only log in when you need to. Makes it much less stressful. I have all notifications turned off so I only get an email when something sells. I don't answer any other messages (unless there was an actual problem with the delivery) and my stuff still sells just fine.

MuchTheSameThanks · 16/12/2024 08:25

I don't think the buyer was unreasonable- they were probably just excited about their purchase, and if it was clothes, maybe wanted to wear it next week, or something like that.
Some buyers on Vinted do a lot of messaging throughout the process. Some pay up and say nothing whatsoever.

You lost yourself a sale and will get negative feedback. No biggie maybe. But you had the parcel ready, the shop was open til 9pm and you had a strop: you cut your nose off to spite your face as the saying goes.

newbeggins · 16/12/2024 08:32

No absolutely cancel it. They can choose and badger someone else for £3

Catza · 16/12/2024 08:37

If you have a safe place in/outside your property, you can book a PO collection free of charge. I can't remember the last time I had to go to the post office. I pile up my parcels in the boot room and the postie collects on his morning round.

smokeandflame · 16/12/2024 08:40

The delivery time is listed on the item and she knew that when she bought it.

It's OK to send a message (politely) asking if it's possible to post sooner, but she should accept the response.

I wouldn't have cancelled the order. I would have just posted it at the weekend when I could, unless she cancelled it because she needed it sooner.

NotVeryFunny · 16/12/2024 10:33

I had a similar thing on eBay. So annoying. I had also a clear 3 working day delivery timescale noted on the listing as I worked and simply couldn't get a post office on days I was working. Buyer sent a message asking me to send immediately after buying, and I explained I couldn't and why and pointed out the timescale on the listing. And she sent various harassing emails saying it was "poor customer service" and similar, to which I replied that I was just a random selling my old shit, I didn't have "customers" and I went fucking amazon. I also cancelled as was preempting other issues from her by this point as you thought too. I don't understand why people think that the equivalent of a car boot sale online will be the same as buying from Amazon.

Babadookinthewardrobe · 16/12/2024 10:40

Wasn’t necessary to cancel imo, just rather spiteful.

MyPithyPoster · 16/12/2024 10:42

I had one who wanted to return something for a ridiculous reason and then got all up because she had to pay the postage to return it. When I said this is not John Lewis, I don’t have a return to Department she left a complaint. Never again I take it all to charity now.

NarnianQueen · 16/12/2024 11:48

It's annoying that she chased that much but it's a bit weird you're so dismissive of it because it's "only £3". If you're not bothered about the people buying your old clothes for a few quid why not just give them to charity?

For all you know it could have been a present for someone she was about to visit and that's why she's was stressing about the timing. Not that it's an excuse, but cancelling was it

Tarraleah · 16/12/2024 12:07

why being so unpleasant? The pretence of self-importance is so weird.

The superiority over "only £3" is just ridiculous, yes it's cheap, but it must matter enough for you to advertise, package and post the item, all for £3.

People who take time to make posts on social media are nowhere as "busy" as they claim they are.

You didn't "send a firm message", you were just rude and petty, trying to play some power trip in your own head.

The sad thing is, it might be a buyer who likes to buy cheap but it might be someone who is spending the most they can afford. As already said above, once you add the fees, the package, it's not just £3 and they might not have any spare money to order something else until they get their refund.

I use Vinted a lot, to sell and to buy. I can't find of 1 purchase when the item wasn't send within 2 days. No one is petty enough to post at the last possible minute just because they think it's amusing.

ExceededUsefulEconomicLife · 16/12/2024 13:23

She chased because you didn't update her and she was eager to receive. Obviously she is the devil!

onwardsup4 · 16/12/2024 14:02

Definitely not unreasonable, I got a Xmas jumper off there earlier. Messaged first to see when they would post they said today so I purchased.

If you need something quickly you order from Amazon or somewhere with next day delivery. Somewhere like Vinted it's pretty obvious you'd need to check when they would send it

SoNiceToComeHomeTo · 16/12/2024 14:14

I don’t think it was reasonable to cancel the order. It would have been just as easy to post it since you had it ready.
