Cilla Black. Fucking awful yet shovel in our faces for decades.

What did she ever act in? I do love her two big song hits though, I can still listen to them, but wasn’t a fan.

I can't stand Emma Thompson. I have to own up that it is pure jealousy. She's got it all: she is super-talented: she is a great great actress. I would give her an Oscar for that brilliant moment in Love Actually when she discovers her husband didn't buy the present for her. Jeez, that really cuts you to the gut. She won an Oscar for her writing. She has a beautiful husband, and she is very very clever. And (in my opinion) beautiful. I hate her.

I despise that film but I agree that scene was superb.

Also, "all their characters are the same" is a stupid criticism. Actors are cast because they fit the role.

IMO it's not a matter of "fitting the role," it's whether an actor has any range or if they are one-note performers. Meryl Streep is a perfect example of an actor with tremendous range. Someone like Tom Cruise can only play one type, he seems to lack the ability to do anything else.

Elodie09 · 15/12/2024 19:12

Tom Hanks.
Never understood it.

I always used to get Kiera Knightley and Natalie Portman mixed up.

My husband two most notable celeb crushes, back in the day. He's obviously got a type 🤣
One of his crushes played the other ones body double/decoy in star wars

Kerry Washington. Omg she's unbearable with her lips trembling

GreengrassofW · 15/12/2024 19:25

George Clooney and Colin Farrell

Whatinthedoopla · 15/12/2024 19:26

Kylie Jenner's boyfriend, given way too much attention! Timothy chalamet!

Zendeaya! The girls a model, not an actress

DisappearingGirl · 15/12/2024 19:33

Against the grain here ...

I really liked Emma Watson in the live action Beauty and the Beast. I thought she made a good Hermione too.

Kristen Stewart - I think she suits the character in Twilight even if she's not technically a great actress.

Iwishiwasagiraffe · 15/12/2024 19:38

I don’t think Catherine zeta jones is particularly good. I think she’s done so well because she’s beautiful not because she can act. Although I did like Chicago

TwirlyGirly67 · 15/12/2024 19:38

TwinklyMintHelper · 14/12/2024 18:14

Michael LeVell - plays Kevin Webster in ‘Coronation Street’. Appalling actor.

I think Dev in Coronation Street is truly abysmal

Zendaya is multi talented. She's been acting in live plays since very young, has already won awards, and she's only just 25.
Every time I see her I feel at ease - she can handle herself in every situation, zero cringe factor.

Sillyname63 · 15/12/2024 19:53

John Wayne, was always exactly the same in every film he made. I
Not keen on Jim Carey as I hate the stupid faces he pulls and I can take or leave Kiera Knighley it's the voice with her.
I really like Olivia Coleman and Keanu Reeves

Oh, and Meryl Streep. She was so terrible and jittery and all over the place in Kramer vs Kramer, I NEVER understood how she won an award for that. She is a terrible actress and way, way, way over-rated. She is known for being known imo more than acting. I will never understand how she ever became a 'thing'. She's manufactured rubbish with zero talent and only marketing and publicity imo.

Agree about Meryl Streep, in her earlier films she was so twitchy, hands to face so often, rubbish acting, Kramer v Kramer is typical of her "performances".
She is supposed to be very aloof on film sets.

No, he is just brilliant and exceptionally popular at playing a type.

Having said that, do you really think his characters in, say, Philadelphia and Toy Story are the same?

"Meryl Streep is a shit actor" really isn't the hot take you think it is.

I was referring to Tom Cruise in my post, not Tom Hanks.

(Though I did write a different post about Hanks.)

No, that’s not correct about Tom Cruise. Anyone who’s seen Collateral, Rock of Ages and Valkyrie will know he’s not a one trick pony.

I just need to say that I absolutely adore Anna Maxwell Martin and watch everything she is in.. and I'm shocked she seems to have cropped up several times in this thread!!

She comes across as such a funny person in real life too. She's best in comedic roles I think. I LOVED motherland. First discovered her in good Omens where she made a character that doesn't even get five minutes of screen time into an instant fan favourite

It is correct IMO or I wouldn't have written it. 😅 Evaluating someone's acting ability is by definition subjective. Tom Cruise has extremely limited range in my view.

LesMisSaigon · 15/12/2024 20:12

The worst.'actor' of all time is Dereck Thompson who played Charlie in Casualty. Also Johnny Depp, we always say he went to the Marlon Brando school of over acting. ( Sorry @Dappy777 ) Most of the cast of Eastenders. Eddie Redmayne, totally ruined the Les Miserables movie.

westisbest1982 · 15/12/2024 20:14

@LawrenceSMarlowforPresident He plays three very different characters in those films. So nothing to do with subjectivity in this instance, we’re talking facts. Face it, you’re wrong.

SeemsQuiteNormal · 15/12/2024 20:15

Liam Neeson
Gerard Butler
Paul Mescal

Judi Dench. She is just Judi Dench in everything. Sorry. I like Tracey Ullman as Judi Dench. Tracey Ullman as Judi Dench is much better than Judi Dench as Judi Dench.

I agree on the whole but have you ever seen Notes on a Scandal? A really good portrayal of a difficult unlikeable character.
However I think that's her one deviation from 'Judi Dench playing Judi Dench'.

Thought it was Hugh Fearlessly- Eatsitall.

That was a good book.
