Keanu Reeves is a terrible actor technically, but also I love him and find his films inexplicably watchable. So I'm not sure what to do with those feelings.

With the exception of Siberia, which was so terrible (and had some of the most awkward sex I've ever seen in a movie) that I couldn't watch it all, I think he's great.

notprincehamlet · 15/12/2024 18:15

How dare you. He was the very best thing about Rivals. Although maybe that was the moustache doing the heavy lifting...
A moustache is just one big eyebrow but in a different place. It's a lipbrow. 😂

DeeDoyle · 15/12/2024 18:15

Jane Danson (Leanne in corrie) shes horrific!!

I wouldn't say many or any of these. Whilst most actors are naturally gifted with good looks, voice and poise, I think they are hugely underestimated.

Have any of you tried acting?

I'd say a lot of us are acting our socks off every day just to survive our rotten jobs. Just because a camera isn't there or we're not obviously on a stage etc.
My chops are up there with Dame Sybil Thorndike and my charisma, good looks, voice and poise would floor most of the thespians on this thread. And that's just on a Tuesday afternoon with no booking on Graham Norton and no green room champers and nibbles to look forward to.

olivia coleman

She was fab in Wonka!

I didn't realise it was her at first.

restingbitchface30 · 15/12/2024 18:25

Keira knightly and Nicole Kidman are just terrible

Hattie1970abc · 15/12/2024 18:31

blueshoes · 14/12/2024 18:34

Zendaya

Not sure I was convinced by her in Dune

Seriously? She is outstanding In Euphoria.

BlueFlowers5 · 15/12/2024 18:40

David Walliams

StarkleLittleTwink · 15/12/2024 18:41

Keira Knightly - she’s rubbish in Black Doves.

HorsesAreRunningOn3LegsTonight · 15/12/2024 18:43

The TV actor that played Charlie in Casualty.
Him of the darting eyes and wooden acting.

Mum2EmLuJa · 15/12/2024 18:43

Ghostofallnightmares · 14/12/2024 17:26

Martin Freeman

no way! I think he’s brilliant!

FKAT · 14/12/2024 17:27

All my favourite actors listed so far.

Except Keira Knightley - she is not good

I can’t watch anything with Kiera knightly - and I have no idea why??? I don’t loathe her just don’t like watching her. Bizarre!

Challas · 15/12/2024 18:52

Kiera Knightly made a fab mad sugar plum.

RavenhairedRachel · 15/12/2024 18:54

Arnold Schwarzenegger
Sylvester Stallone
Angelina Jolie
Jaden Smith
Jean-Claude Van Damme
A lot of the actors on day time soaps can't act either

CrowleyKitten · 15/12/2024 18:55

WinterColdBrrrr · 14/12/2024 17:35

Nic Cage i really struggle with. He comes across really wooden.

I've heard he's really nice, but when he was cast in the Wicker Man remake, I said, well, he's so wooden he'll burn well.
He WAS actually pretty good in Kick Ass, though. Much to my surprise

ChessorBuckaroo · 15/12/2024 08:58

Jack Wild (Artful Dodger) would disagree. His double act with Ron Moody (Fagin) is one of the greatest combos in cinema history.

Hayley Mills another major British child star (and Walt Disney's favourite).

And Macauly Culkin? Love the first two Home Alone films, but he can barely act.

Edited

Yes of course there are some and I loved HR PuffnStuff as a kid, with Jack Wild. Haley Joel Osment was up for Harry Potter but being American couldn’t have it. I think he would have slayed it and been far better Harry than Daniel Radcliffe.

RetirementIsGreat · 15/12/2024 18:57

Don't like Will Ferrell. I don't find him funny at all.

Whenever I see Angelina Jolie I wonder why she is so famous, other than marrying Brad Pitt and being Lara decades ago. I haven’t seen a single film she’s been in. Does she really bring in the punters for her movies?

MasterBeth · 15/12/2024 19:00

There are some absolute loons posting on this thread...

Cilla Black? Paddy McGuinness? Not actors..

Olivia Colman? Judi Dench? David Tennant? Nicola Walker? Exceptionally talented actors.

SpiritOfEcstasy · 15/12/2024 19:03

Radionowhere · 14/12/2024 17:22

Keanu Reeves and Keira Knightley

Thank you! I can’t actually watch Keira Knightley she’s so bad.

MasterBeth · 15/12/2024 19:03

Also, "all their characters are the same" is a stupid criticism. Actors are cast because they fit the role.

BunnyLake · 15/12/2024 19:03

I feel the same, have never warmed to her. I used to feel it about Demi Moore as well. She seemed so generic to me, you could literally swap any other youngish actress to play her role.

CrowleyKitten · 15/12/2024 19:04

FeralNun · 14/12/2024 17:59

Absolutely. She’s everywhere. As Jim Royle said ‘like shit in a field!’

See also David Tennant. Only I think he is much less talented than Olivia.

Completely disagree on Tennant. It depends on the role, he takes a lot of silly, playful roles. But his acting in He's (the show about Dennis Neilson) was incredible. They showed a documentary afterwards which had actual interview footage, and the mannerisms were uncannily spot on.
And that final 15 minutes of Good Omens series 2 is emotionally devastating acting, from both him and Michael Sheen. Every tiny change in expression punches you in the gut.

Bruisername · 15/12/2024 19:05

Some actors get typecast pretty quick and then that seems to be all they do

some actors seem to only play the same character regardless of what they are in. Sometimes that works and sometimes it doesn't

i like Nicola walker but she is very distinctive on radio so is hard to believe in what you’re listening to. She has the same intonation and style on everything she does
