To think that if a man has had bottom surgery they should be put in a woman’s prison?

Genuinely interested in this and not trying to goad just want to understand.

When people talk of the threat of a man in women’s spaces, I assume the danger is because of their penis.

So if that’s gone then should they be categorised as a woman?

I’m kind of of the opinion that if you’re willing to put that much effort in (as in penis removal) regardless of your chromosomes, I’m happy for you to be called a woman…is this wrong?

But that isnt answering my question Lostcat. Are trans people literally the opposite sex from their biological sex/sex at birth or not?

if you think they are, then yes I deny that on the basis of evidence and logic, and I’d like you to explain how.

if you think they’re not, then we agree trans people exist.

But you’d rather answer along the lines of “waaa you don’t understand and you’re a meanie for knowing trans women are male and daring to say so”.

Sure, I don’t understand how trans people can be anything other than the sex they are and why I should go along with their self-view when it contradicts the facts. That isn’t expected in any other comparable situation, like Rachel dolezal (much as I would also defend her right to safety and human rights).

We say so not to be mean and cruel, but because reality exists and matters. However trans people see themselves, they’re not the only ones with a viewpoint and a need for safety and protection.

Why is this transphobic? There's nothing actually wrong with being a man. It's not an insult.

There is everything wrong with being a man if you are a trans woman.

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 12/12/2024 16:06

Lostcat · 12/12/2024 16:05

see post above . If there is no difference between trans women and men then yes you are denying trans experience.

OK, let's phrase it differently.

Do you think there is no difference between trans women and women?

Come educate us. We're agog.

What is your understanding of what the word "man" means?

And yet you are and will always remain a man.

You know sex can't be changed. You KNOW that.

What is the difference? What is a 'transwoman'?

Why are you asking me while insisting at the same time that you recognise and respect the existence of trans people?

ArabellaScott · 12/12/2024 16:08

So you can't answer. What's the point of discussion if you can't even explain your terms.

of course there are differences between trans women and women who are not trans. Everybody knows this.

BodyKeepingScore · 12/12/2024 16:10

@Lostcat not one of the lesbians I know (and I know many) support trans ideology as they see the harm it is causing to young lesbian and gay people.

My own gay brother has similar disdain for all the young trans men on gay dating apps throwing a fit when gay men aren't attracted to them.

I hate to break it to you but I don’t think you are looking at a representative sample. It figures you share the same views and are also family / friends :).

(Also being trans is not an “ideology” , it’s a real and fundamental characteristic of some persons).

OK, would you mind ever so much giving a high level answer to the following questions?

  1. What are the differences between a woman and a trans woman?
  2. What are the similarities between a woman and a trans woman?
  3. What are the differences between a man and a trans woman?
  4. What are the similarities between a man and a trans woman?

You're right, we do. There's the penis, the y chromosome, the whole being a man thing.

Everybody knows this. But what's the difference between transwomen and men? Please tell us.

wispystar · 12/12/2024 16:13

The only biological difference between a regular man and a transwoman is the latter has a psychological abnormality.

why do you need me to? You acknowledge trans people exist right? So how do you know this? What identifies them?

A trans woman is a biological male who would like everyone to refer to them as though they are a woman.

WhatterySquash · 12/12/2024 16:15

Lostcat as much as you evade and obfuscate, reality exists and your understanding of it is either based on the available evidence, or it isn’t. There’s nothing wrong with having beliefs that are faith-based and not evidence based - many people do, in the form of religion, superstitions etc. But if that is the basis of your beliefs, then other people should be under no obligation to share them or to pretend they do.

it’s not mean or “phobic” for me to say to a Christian “I’m an atheist” - we can respect that we see things differently and that we don’t get to force the other person to live by our beliefs.

I think you’re coming across as if you haven’t actually thought this through yourself,

Lostcat · 12/12/2024 16:15

wispystar · 12/12/2024 16:13

ok… and could you expand on what you mean by that?

Well most people don't believe they should be the opposite sex.

Because you say you know, and I don't.

What identifies someone as trans? They do.

I'd truly love to know what the difference is between a man and a transwoman. Please share your knowledge.

that sounds very superficial. Is it your intention to suggest that the difference is that superficial?

I can't think of any other definition which is accurate.

I tried to use language that is as neutral as possible without being untruthful in some way and that was the best I could come up with.

Do you have a better definition?

Lostcat · 12/12/2024 16:18

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 12/12/2024 16:16

Well most people don't believe they should be the opposite sex.

So by “psychological abnormality” you mean “belief”?

We don’t typically call “beliefs” “psychological abnormalities”… ?
