To throw the Avon catalogue...

I didn't even think Avon still did catalogues but I've just got home to find one through my door and a note saying they'll collect next week.

Person A says just throw it away, it's unsolicited mail.

Person B says just throw it out on the doorstep and let it sit there for a week.

Person C says keep it in and remember to put it out on the day it says it'll be collected.

Which team are you?

I had one and left it out the day they said they’d collect it.

The first one I did B, in a sandwich bag, with a note asking not to receive any more. The next couple, from the same rep, went in the recycling. I can barely remember bin day, there is absolutely no way I’m babysitting a catalogue for a few days then dutifully putting it out on the correct morning.

Yes same here, this has come up before on threads, Im overun with things to organise and categorise, the bin arrnagements are overwhelming at times. There is cardboard stacked up in the hallway because theres no room for it outside but we have a week and a half until its cardboard day.

Its incredibly windy where we live and anything left out just blows away so Im not leaving stuff on my doorstep.

Alternatively draw moustaches on all the models and blame the kids. You won't get any more delivered.

Winner!

Its the charity collection bin bags for me, we get a shocking amount of them they very quickly add up. I also take stuff in person to my chosen charity shop on the school run (its across the road and they have friendly workers, a great cause and reasonable pricing).

I started using them to hold the junk mail in the great purge but I only need one for that and we get like 3-5 a week (all different charities). Really we should stop buying bin bags and start using them but they're flimsy too. I hate throwing them out though but what am I meant to do with them (one of the charities that posts every week I don't even morally agree with).

I don't mind the charity bags. I use them for rubbish bags in the bathroom bin 🤣

I was thrilled and delighted to get one pushed through my door recently.
As cruelty free is important to me, I went ahead and ordered. And I am thrilled and delighted with my purchases! Just saying...

TheGoogleMum · 10/12/2024 20:18

They'll knock and ask for it back if you don't leave it out. Best way is to leave it out in a waterproof bag with a note saying you aren't interested. Any further deliveries I'd say bin is fair game

Sorry to burst you bubble, but Avon is no longer cruelty-free (though some products are.

IIRC It lost that status when it started to expand into Asia and had to have products animal tested for some markets

BogRollBOGOF · 10/12/2024 21:07

Bin it.
I don't want it through my door to be a trip hazard in a narrow hall.
I don't want it being a trip hazard on my doorstep for days either. That space is used.
I don't want make-up/ skincare etc and if I did, I'd buy what I want rather than waiting for random catalogues.
I don't want the extra jobs of writing notes/ tracking dates etc.
I just don't want it.

So sorry,I should have added that payment was due when I got the goods
I have no idea if that's normal for Avon but that's what she said to do

Avon via catalogue agent is always cash on delivery (or should be).

RichardMarxisinnocent · 10/12/2024 22:05

I haven't had an Avon brochure through the door for ages, but when I did get them (and Betterware ones) I used to put them straight in the recycling. I had no idea the reps had to buy them, and as nobody ever knocked on my door asking for them back (or if they did it was when I was at work) I had no idea you were expected to return them if not ordering anything. I guess there might have been a note with them explaining what to do, but as I didn't want to order anything I didn't check for one.

If I got one now, I'd leave it outside as soon as I got it, I'd never remember to put it out on the right day.

JMSA · 10/12/2024 22:06

Person C, because I'm not a dick.

Elphame · 10/12/2024 22:07

Team A

I have a very explicit sign on my door and things like that are left at the depositor's own risk.

It goes direct into recycling.

Princesssuperstar · 10/12/2024 22:13

It's the rep that has to pay for the books and only get a small percentage of any orders. Personally I like to try to order something even if it's just small to offer my support. Sometimes I do leave a note saying I'm skint as I have a lot to pay but happy to get another book in a couple month

A trip hazard ?
Right

Motheranddaughter · 10/12/2024 22:19

I normally order some stuff
Quality is good for the price,so why not

Grmumpy · 10/12/2024 22:23

Aren’t some of you harsh. It could be anyone trying to make some extra money. Option C.

grafittiartist · 10/12/2024 22:26

I love the Avon catalog! It's a treat.
I look forward to it.

stargazerlil · 10/12/2024 22:28

I don’t answer my door unless I’m expecting someone and I wouldn’t leave it outside as it might rain and then be wet rubbish that I’d have to deal with.
Id probably have a browse through it, then forget about it.

BadLad · 10/12/2024 22:35

Team A. Throwing them away discourages the reps from leaving any more in future.

Motheranddaughter · 10/12/2024 22:18

A trip hazard ?
Right

Well yeah it is. It's a slip and trip hazard if it's stuck on someone's doorstep.

And if someone isn't Person C - someone who dutifully puts it out on the doorstep on the day the agent says they are coming, they are not a 'dick' @JMSA... No-one has to place these catalogues on their doorstep if they don't wish to. People are entitled to just bin unsolicited crap that drops through their letterbox.

Moreover, most times I have done this in the past, (left the brochure on my doorstep on the day they were supposed to be coming,) they don't come on that day. Like MOST of the time. It has been out on the doorstep for DAYS, even a week sometimes, and so I have taken it back in.

Then the agent just calls randomly when I'm busy, having dinner with family, have a visitor here, am sleeping or resting, or am working. CBA to come when they say, but expect me to drop what I'm doing when it suits them to come, and spend time faffing around looking for the bloody brochure! (Avon do this - AND Betterware amongst others.)

As some posters have said, many women have plenty to think about - and do - without having extra crap thrown at them to remember - and do. And it IS always women that are expected to deal with this shit.

TunipTheVegimal24 · 10/12/2024 22:51

I threw mine out, which was a mistake.

I didn't do it maliciously - just threw it out with all the other pamphlets and crap that gets posted through the door. A few days later, a lady came to collect it and said she had to pay out of her own pocket for the catalogues 😬 Super awkward. Just keep it until the woman comes back.

I agree with other posters though it's a wild concept. Like if a friend wanted to start sending you faxes instead of using WhatsApp 🤷‍♀️

SwordToFlamethrower · 10/12/2024 22:53

C. It costs the person to buy them. Be Kind

That's really good news! When I got my unsolicited catalogue a few years ago, they still tested on animals, which was another reason I was like "why do I have this?"
