Going out shopping in your PJ's and slippers

That's the third time this week, a sighting across 3 towns, nice seasonal tartan numbers with sturdy animal slippers Grin

Best one was in Booths, a family of three resplendent in matching jammies. imagine the pearl clutching at that!

Still, what does it mean exactly? I thought this had died off years ago. If it's happening up here in Booths, maybe it's coming to a Waitrose near you further south any time now..

I don't currently drive so I don't have the luxury of choice, it's rainproof up to the eyeballs up here in storm Darragh.

@CitizenZ yeah.... you've got me.
I just eat all day and when I run out of food I don't bother to change out of my stinky PJ's to head to the supermarket to buy more food.
Eat eat eat. That's all I do.
😂😂😂😂😂
At least I mind my own business about what clothes people choose to wear.

henlake7 · 08/12/2024 23:33

It's just wrong. Maybe if you aren't getting out the car or have a coat and shoes hiding your jammies then you can get away with it, otherwise it's Judgement City from me!
Maybe you are wearing lovely brand new nightwear but the connatations are you can't be arsed dressing like a normal person. People are going to wonder if you can't be arsed getting dressed can you be arsed washing yourself or brushing your teeth, etc?
First thing I do in the morning is walk the dogs, I always seem to find the time to chuck on a pair of leggings and sweatshirt somehow.

Wisterical · 08/12/2024 23:34

@CitizenZ I doubt @Needmorelego needs me to stick up for her but you can just fuck off with your bullying shite.

Needmorelego · 08/12/2024 23:35

@Wisterical thank you 😍
(it's making me laugh to be honest....)

Copperoliverbear · 09/12/2024 00:08

I walk my dog in the dark in my pjs and slippers but that's it.

ByHardyAquaFox · 09/12/2024 00:16

Revolting.

natalieplusone · 09/12/2024 03:43

I saw a woman with pjs and pink heart, large fluffy dressing gown on in asda once

getahhtmapub · 09/12/2024 04:12

People think it's terribly kooky and like to think it shows that they don't give a fuck about your social contract and the rest of us are just sheeple by putting on actual clothes.
I've noticed that the people who do this are not the kind of people who actually offer society anything beneficial so they have to make their mark somehow.

curlycurlymoo · 09/12/2024 06:45

It's vile. So many people don't bother taking any pride in their appearance these days and it's just getting worse. I don't agree with it. However. I did see someone a young girl, in a supermarket
But she said she'd just come out of hospital and needed stuff which I thought was fair enough.

CatNoon · 09/12/2024 06:58

What bothers me about it is it feels unclean. Either from being out and about outside in clothes meant to be kept clean for bed, or it’s dirty being out in clothes you’ve been sleeping in. Either way that’s what bothers me, not the look of it. And as for slippers, they are indoor shoes meant to be kept clean from outside dirt, so wearing them out to the shops is 😱 to me.

You wear your house slippers in a potentially wet and muddy and poopy park?

CyranoDeBergerQuack · 09/12/2024 07:56

Lazy feckers
No respect for themselves or the effect they have on society

Needmorelego · 09/12/2024 07:59

@CyranoDeBergerQuack what affect does it actually have on you? What does it prevent you from doing?
Come on.....give actual examples 😂😂

It doesn't prevent me from doing anything - nor did I say it did.
It's just the don't care/selfish 'I don't give a fuck about my appearance or what other people think, and if I pass that onto my kids, so what' attitude that stinks. It's a reflection of a lack of effort, which makes one think that if they cannot be arsed to get dressed they cannot be arsed to do anything else

Needmorelego · 09/12/2024 08:22

@CyranoDeBergerQuack "can't be arsed to do anything".....
Lets see. Currently I am wearing a nightie and pj bottoms. In a while I will change out of those and put on a freshly washed clean pair of pyjama bottoms. I will add a top. Probably a regular t-shirt but I have t-shirts and pj tops that I actually don't know which is which as I can't remember which section of the shop I got them in.
I will then take my disabled daughter to school.
Then do a bit of supermarket shopping.
If I have time I will go home (her SEN school is around a 30/40 minute bus journey away so I don't always go home). If at home I will do housework etc. Maybe some crafting. Maybe some reading.
If I don't go home I might take the opportunity to get exercise by doing a walk (this is the only time I get to do that).
Shall I go on? That takes me to about lunchtime.
But apparently I am LAZY because I choose to wear lightweight loose soft trousers in public 😱😱. Oh the horrors.
😂😂😂😂 these threads are hilarious.

Jellycatspyjamas · 09/12/2024 08:24

To be honest I don’t think about other people’s motivations that much. If someone wants to wear pyjamas to drop off kids etc it’s really none of my business - I tend to think they’ve had a bad morning/bad day if anything. It doesn’t impact me to see someone’s tartan pjs at all.

What type of a shop is Booths. I have heard of Boots chemist but not Booths

Booths is a smart supermarket in Northwest England and the Lakes. Think Waitrose but posher.

PermanentTemporary · 09/12/2024 13:38

There is such a thing as appropriate dress and I think it's very performatively dumb to pretend you have no idea what that is. PJs aren't made or appropriate for outdoor wear or public places. If a child of yours turns up at an interview with me in the next ten years in pjs they're not going to get the job. Soz (not soz).

TheDowagerCountessofPembroke · 09/12/2024 13:43

Is the idea of slippers different to different people? To me slippers are shoes worn exclusively indoors to keep your feet warm. They are never worn outside and as such are free from mud etc. If they are regularly worn outside then to me they stop being slippers.

Needmorelego · 09/12/2024 13:44

@PermanentTemporary well yes - in certain situations I do dress in more formal clothes.
I didn't wear PJ's at my Dad's funeral.
I bought some smart trousers and tops for when I did Jury service.
When I was working I wore the uniform because I was required to.
But if I am shopping in a supermarket minding my own business just buying the food and things I need - why does it matter to anyone else. It doesn't stop them buying whatever they are there for.
It has zero effect on their life.
😂

Needmorelego · 09/12/2024 13:48

These are the type of pyjamas I wear as non-bedtime clothes and as general everyday clothes.
What's the difference between this and a t-shirt and trousers?

Going out shopping in your PJ's and slippers
Sunnyflow · 09/12/2024 13:54

Do you wear the pyjamas back to bed at the end of your day, after sitting on a public bus, been using the Supermarket toilets and/or walking through a dirty and muddy path?

Needmorelego · 09/12/2024 13:58

@Sunnyflow I don't no.
I have different clothes for sleeping in.

CurbsideProphet · 09/12/2024 14:31

There's a difference between wearing lounge type trousers with a t shirt and wearing brushed cotton button down pyjamas and a dressing gown. I don't see anyone in pyjamas round here, but will be watching out the next time we stop at Burscough Booths incase it's a new Booths thing 😂

Needmorelego · 09/12/2024 14:45

@CurbsideProphet yes it is different.
To be honest other than at a campsite I've never (or don't remember seeing) anyone in their fleecy pjs, dressing gown and slippers out shopping/doing the school run. I often think threads like these are wildly exaggerated.
It just annoys me with these threads that instantly there's all the "eww how gross" and "don't they have respect" which just sounds childish tbh.
