Going out shopping in your PJ's and slippers

That's the third time this week, a sighting across 3 towns, nice seasonal tartan numbers with sturdy animal slippers Grin

Best one was in Booths, a family of three resplendent in matching jammies. imagine the pearl clutching at that!

Still, what does it mean exactly? I thought this had died off years ago. If it's happening up here in Booths, maybe it's coming to a Waitrose near you further south any time now..

I don't currently drive so I don't have the luxury of choice, it's rainproof up to the eyeballs up here in storm Darragh.

@ByMerryKoala I wear pj or "loungewear" bottoms every single day. I have some weight issues and they are the only type of trousers I currently find comfortable to wear.
They are always clean and I don't sleep in them.
So do I still have no respect for myself or the people around me?
Why does my choice of material to cover my legs have any affect on random strangers and why should they care?
Apologies if I am letting society down 😂

Well, you have a whole thread's worth of people telling you that they do care that people are shopping in their pjs and making the place look down and out, regardless of whether you think they should be judging or not.

Needmorelego · 08/12/2024 22:06

@ByMerryKoala well I am sorry if I upset society that much.
Personally I believe my comfort (ie soft elasticated loose trousers) is more important that what random strangers think or care.
I am just going about living my life, doing my thing.....but OMG I have a pair of soft elasticated trousers on.....
Yes society is heading for a downfall and it's all my soft trousers fault.
Seriously.....why do people care ?
I went to the supermarket yesterday. I couldn't tell you what any of the other customers were wearing..... because I don't CARE!
😂😂😂😂😂

Ineffable23 · 08/12/2024 22:10

I have, occasionally, gone to the corner shop a hundred yards away, in pjs. But I generally wear a knee length coat and knee length boots to disguise this so you can't see more than two inches of pyjama. I feel this is the limits of acceptable. I'd never go to the little Tesco (8 minutes walk) without getting dressed.

Speckyfourfries · 08/12/2024 22:20

I saw a woman yesterday out in pj's, late morning in a supermarket and I was shocked..why not just put some leggings on? I think it looks awful although my teen daughter says a lot of people turn up to college in fluffy pj bottoms now?

Iloveburgerswaymorethanishould · 08/12/2024 22:24

I take my son to school at 7:30am in my jamas, Uggs and big coat most mornings. I then pop in the supermarket and grab a few bits on my
way home. I then clean up, eat, sort laundry etc and get ready for work and leave at 10:30 am. I have to change into work clothes at work, then change into clothes to leave and then once home change again…. I also have lupus which can’t be medicated in the normal way so I pick and choose what jobs I need to do (including getting dressed again) to keep on top of my fatigue. Google spoon theory. I need that laziness in the morning to keep me going till bedtime… (about 7pm as I can’t stay awake longer than then usually!!)
I don’t judge mums appearing at that time to quickly drop off… I wouldn’t however turn up at school opening in pjs. I’d wonder if being in jamas makes their life easier that day…then fair play. If they just couldn’t be arsed getting dressed then it’s a different story x

Pussycat22 · 08/12/2024 22:26

Raindropskeepfallinonmyhead id like to do that but would be scared of car breaking down!

Sampler · 08/12/2024 22:28

This isn’t a subconscious ‘I’m in a rush’ thing I see in a nearby Tesco, the few women who do it are slowly strolling around, fleecy pj’s and slippers with 5ml of filler in their lips, fake tan and lashes with a messy and often greasy bun.
They seem to enjoy the attention and think they’re dead sexy or something.

Pussycat22 · 08/12/2024 22:29

StepAwayFromGoogling · 08/12/2024 19:49

Meh. Why is it skanky? They could be clean pyjamas. Everyone else could be in three day old clothes.

I've been known to get home, have a bath and get into my pjs only to realise we're out of milk. More than happy to throw on a long coat, a pair of shoes and pop to the Local. That said, I tend to wear slouchy pjs that look like loungewear but couldn't give a monkeys what anyone thinks about it.

I'd draw the line at a dressing gown though.

Specially one with makeup stains and worse all over it🤣

AppleWhiskers · 08/12/2024 17:02

Ha, and at the same Booths a woman in her 30's or so just threw a pile of sweet wrappers from her pocket onto the floor beside the magazines.
She had a determined look of 'fuck you' about her.

I think that's what it is, in a way, a sort of fuck you to the idea of any kind of dignified social contract.

There was a good verbal slinging match outside between a similarly attired woman and her partner. She screamed at him through the car window and repeated slammed the door till the car shook.

The Lake District has....changed a bit since I was last here.

Ahh, that’ll be visitors, not locals!

PermanentTemporary · 08/12/2024 22:33

It's revolting. I judge (you can tell).

ObieJoyful · 08/12/2024 22:34

I once got a phone call for milk whilst in port and visiting the onshore loos. I diverted to a nearby Tesco, but I was in pyjama bottoms, a sweatshirt, and sliders.

The shame.

SocksAndTheCity · 08/12/2024 22:35

Forgottenwhatitwas · 08/12/2024 20:06

I work in a convenience store and see it every day, I often wonder if it ever happens in the local waitrose 😂 to be fair it's usually late at night when people have run out of fags or milk. The pyjamas I can understand but the slippers does have me clutching my pearls, especially in the rain

It definitely happens in the Waitrose opposite me, although if I'm running over in my pyjamas (because I've got up and the milk is bad, or whatever) I put on a coat and boots.

I wouldn't go outside in my slippers any more than I'd wear my outside shoes in my flat, but I couldn't give a toss what other people do because it's nothing to do with me.

Wisterical · 08/12/2024 22:35

Ffs why on earth does it matter what other people wear? It's so weird to even give it a second thought.

Needmorelego · 08/12/2024 22:41

@Wisterical exactly 😂

ByMerryKoala · 08/12/2024 22:42

Yeah, the weird people aren't the ones shopping in their pjs, the weird ones are the oneswith the temerity to notice it 😁

StMarie4me · 08/12/2024 22:46

My pyjamas and slippers are for my clean cosy home. Not outdoors!

TeenLifeMum · 08/12/2024 22:51

I drive by a primary school on the way to work and the mums are all in pjs. DDs are in secondary now but primary was more a Boden/Joules uniform for mums so I find it really weird. Most of us did school run then on to work. I’m guessing the pj mums aren’t off to work. I judge. It’s not hard to get dressed and comfy clothes don’t have to look like pjs. Competitive lazy parenting isn’t something to be proud of.

Justleaveitblankthen · 08/12/2024 22:56

Agree that it's attention seeking.
Around here, it goes hand in hand with wearing your hair in curlers all day Saturday and shouting very loudly that you will hit your child if they don't shut up 🤨
I judge them.

@CitizenZ oh yes.... why hasn't that occurred to me 😂😂😂
I'm not going to give you details of my health and I am not going to say what I actually think of your comment because last time I did similar I got a weeks suspension from the site 😂😂😂😂

Happyearlyretirement · 08/12/2024 23:08

Omg, if I saw that in my local Booths or even Aldi’s I’d think caravaners or holy day park nearby t locals.

What type of a shop is Booths. I have heard of Boots chemist but not Booths

A supermarket. It is a bit like Waitrose use to be, before they started selling their essentials range.

Onebaldandonehairy · 08/12/2024 23:16

I literally live next door to Aldi, but I still slip some clothes on. ( I wish I was brave enough to rock up in my jammies)

It's weird but then I was watching the one show and a guest had one what looked like silk pyjamas (with shoes not slippers I should point out). I do think categories of clothes have been a bit mixed up with this trend for lounge wear and being comfy but slippers should be for indoors.

I don't even own nightwear so I'm definitely not going to be part of this trend!
