Going out shopping in your PJ's and slippers

That's the third time this week, a sighting across 3 towns, nice seasonal tartan numbers with sturdy animal slippers Grin

Best one was in Booths, a family of three resplendent in matching jammies. imagine the pearl clutching at that!

Still, what does it mean exactly? I thought this had died off years ago. If it's happening up here in Booths, maybe it's coming to a Waitrose near you further south any time now..

I don't currently drive so I don't have the luxury of choice, it's rainproof up to the eyeballs up here in storm Darragh.

It was so cold here that I kept my pyjamas on as a base layer and put on sweatpants, sweatshirt, fleece and my waterproof ankle length coat on top before heading to the shops.

No one knew I had PJs on, and I had trainers on not slippers.

Hope that’s acceptable!

ranoutofquinoaandprosecco · 08/12/2024 17:12

Ooops, I've been to Booths on my decorating or allotment gear, leggings, oversized jumper, then either wellies or crocs, they don't seem to bat an eyelid in my store!

BadPeopleFan · 08/12/2024 17:14

It just screams 'I have given up at life' to me.
The bare minimum for leaving the house should be showered, deodorant on and dressed in day wear.
I truly hope the scruffy gits change into clean pjs before they get into bed!

Slobberchops1 · 08/12/2024 17:15

A lot of railways and cinemas are doing “ polar express” themed events - McDonald’s near us last weekend was packed with people in pyjamas coming away from a polar express event

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 08/12/2024 17:16

I walk the dog in my Oodie and Pjs but I wouldn't dream of appearing in public thus attired. And the only reason I walk the dog dressed like that is that she wants to go out every hour/hour and a half and I have to get showered and ready for bed sometime. And sometimes when I've been for a run I come back and shower and if I don't need to go 'out' out I will put my pjs on. The village can stand the sight of me billowing around in my Oodie. But shopping!? The very thought...

barbarahunter · 08/12/2024 17:17

I judge. It's rank.

Yes, it has that given up on life vibe for me too. I know people like to make out like these pj day-walkers are freshly showered productive workers who have just popped out from a clean and tidy home but, I mean, pull the other one.

Doggymummar · 08/12/2024 17:18

It's weird, the lady who does my hair lives on a little new build estate and I go there for my hair. Last time I was leaving at about 2 in the afternoon there was a lady in a dressing gown pushing a buggy, and another on her doorstep talking to yet another who must have walked or driven there in her pjs. I wear my pjs all day, I am not a snob about that, but even I get dressed to go to the shop or visit someone.

CatamaranViper · 08/12/2024 17:20

I've walked the dog in PJs before. He wakes up for his morning wee at 5am and when we've looked after him before (often at the weekend) I just go straight back to bed.

Would never go to the shop in pjs though. Have taken DS in his oodie after swimming though so maybe that counts

That's not pyjamas though? Not the same

GingerLiberalFeminist · 08/12/2024 17:22

Grim imo. A teen came to church in one of those Oodies today.

biscuitsandbooks · 08/12/2024 17:22

I went to feed a clients' horse in my PJ's and wellies this morning Grin

CurbsideProphet · 08/12/2024 17:25

I thought you were going to say Burscough Booths 😂 Surprised me that you've seen people wearing pyjamas in a Lakes branch!

I have a plain black zipped Oodie dupe that I was given as a gift. I have worn it outside. It just looks like a seriously oversized hoodie.

I have seen people wear their Oodie dupes out and about and I think they look warm and cosy.

Ladybird982828282828 · 08/12/2024 17:26

Hmmmm all of them in matching PJs- is their a polar express nearby? This would explain this

snoopyfanaccountant · 08/12/2024 17:27

I used to walk DD2 to the train station in the dark winter mornings in my pjs when she was at school (we moved 12 miles and left her at the same school because she was 16 and there is a direct train) because she had to get a train at 7.30. I did however throw a pair of trousers and a hoodie over the top plus put on shoes and a jacket.

Needmorelego · 08/12/2024 17:28

I thought an Oodie was just a type of hoodie.
Why wouldn't you wear one out in public?

User1836484645R · 08/12/2024 17:29

Mental health issues?

Itiswhysofew · 08/12/2024 17:29

No Waitrose' in the north😯❓

I'm seeing a lot of PJ'S and slippers in public recently. Stinky?, goes through my mind.

bifurCAT · 08/12/2024 17:30

This normally happens in university towns/cities. People living in dorms wanting to pop out and in and then scrawl back in bed.

The case here?

Edited

I think some people just see them as loungewear. But they’re so warm it would feel a waste to me not to wear them outside.

Zooeyzo · 08/12/2024 17:32

I don't understand why people just don't put on a big coat and shoes. Its just so silly.

KimberleyClark · 08/12/2024 17:32

What about coming down to hotel breakfast in your jammies? What do people think of that?

I'd be wild if ds spent his maintenance money in Booths.

A lot of PJs now look like outerwear. Plain black cuffed bottoms with plain black full sleeves top. With a coat on top no one would have any idea you’re wearing PJs.
