Did anyone else's phone get an alert for the storm? Scared the life out of me! I guess they've finally got it up and running

In 38+5 weeks pregnant and thought I Was about to go into labour 😂😂😂

Yes, got it on both iPhone and iPad, but DS in London didn't.

In central London and never got the alarm sound. I do remember the nationwide alarm test and it totally freaked me out 😂

Pippinsdiary · 06/12/2024 20:31

I got it just as my 3 yo had stopped screaming and was falling asleep. My husband got it just as he got our 4mo to sleep 😂 worst timing ever

Same for me! 2 year old was literally just settled for bed when it went off - had to pretend I wasn't terrified haha! Unfortunate timing 😅

volingaround · 06/12/2024 20:55

We weren't directly affected, although it was the heaviest rainstorm I remember for a long while and the wind did go crazy for an hour or so - however, from the pictures of the damage on our local Facebook group (walls blown over etc) I'd say yeah, if you'd been caught in it there would definitely have been a risk of injury or loss of life.

TheOliveFinch · 06/12/2024 20:56

Got a red alert in East Devon, was really loud although technically we are in an amber warning area

Turboislander · 06/12/2024 21:00

Got it on Bristol. Scared me because it was a weird noise coming from somewhere in the house. When I opened my phone it not only displayed the message but read it out to me very loudly. Glad I wasn't driving at the time. Imagine it would have been quite the distraction!

Tulipvase · 06/12/2024 19:19

I think it only went off in the red alert areas.

I'm outside the red area but got the alert. Probably outside red zone by approx 40 miles looking at met office map. Well into the amber zone though

Betterthanitseems · 06/12/2024 21:02

I've never had an alert,I'm.wondering now hsve i it disabled or something. I am in an amber area

MumHouseDilemma · 06/12/2024 21:02

Got it whilst on a train in between Taunton and Exeter St David’s. I think that’s amber? Anyway it was loud as fuck and I didn’t get the chance to see what it said 🙃

WhatDaHell · 06/12/2024 21:06

I'm in SE and didn't get it

Tiredofallthis101 · 06/12/2024 21:06

I got it twice. Very loud. Scared my 3 year old who is now nestled up with me as too frightened to go to bed 😥

MistressoftheDarkSide · 06/12/2024 21:07

Seems I'm in the yellow zone - a bit breezy but Christmas market has been cancelled in town just in case, which is fair.

There is scaffolding up front and back of my building so I hope it's secure if it does get worse. I remember 1987 and we had scaffolding up outside our building then too by coincidence (different building). I well remember a long night of tea making and hearing a few paint pots whizzing off the scaffolding into the road.

MadKittenWoman · 06/12/2024 19:14

Yes, got it on both iPhone and iPad, but DS in London didn't.

He won't get a warning because it's only for red areas and London isn't one of them

GG1986 · 06/12/2024 21:10

This is what it said. We are south west/Bath

Alert for storm darragh
kitteninabasket · 06/12/2024 21:10

Presumably it goes off even if it's on silent? I wonder how many secret phones have been uncovered...

Yeah that's not a good thing.

ifionlyhadacat · 06/12/2024 21:13

We are in the red alert zone, but didn't get the phone alarm thingy as we don't have a mobile signal......😑

Elphame · 06/12/2024 21:17

Clafoutie · 06/12/2024 20:44

A nanny state that tries to save lives? The trouble is, it can often be the people who think they don’t need to be directed who end up needing to be rescued.

Those sort of people are not going to take any notice of a red alert - quite the opposite, they are the sort who will go out just because they are told not to.

We are quite used to winter storms here. The power banks are charged and I have plenty of coal so if the power goes off for a while we are OK. I do feel sorry for all the people in the all electric new builds - they will be cold.

MistressoftheDarkSide · 06/12/2024 21:19

Our local rag is doing its bit for the community by having it's live feed on the incoming storm behind a sodding pay wall. Most useful 🙄

CissOff · 06/12/2024 21:19

We had it on several devices and it scared the shite out of us. DD thought it was a nuclear attack warning!

DH and I have been in the garden securing as much as we can. We are in S Wales and have been battered by storms lately 😭

Par for the course. Same as when Uk Power Networks, BT etc tell you to keep checking their websites for updates on a power cut.
When will these numpties learn.....no power means no internet

Sia8899 · 06/12/2024 21:25

I didn’t get one in the South East, just a text from my house insurance, but my boyfriend got one up past London. Although I live on top of a cliff so we’re fairly used to wind. I read there will be a 4 metre storm surge even though my area will probably be tail end of the storm

Time40 · 06/12/2024 21:26

I didn't know phones could make that noise. The iPad did it, too. Rather startling!

Silvers11 · 06/12/2024 21:40

headstone · 06/12/2024 19:58

I had the alert, it says not to drive but I need to ge to work early tomorrow morning in a red zone. Hopefully it won’t be too bad.

No matter what job you have, unless it is imperative you are at work - like a life and death situation type of job, you really, really, should think again about driving in a red zone. Red Zone driving will be absolutely horrendous and terrifying and very very dangerous. Have you ever driven in high winds? Never mind VERY high winds? It's not an experience anyone who has done it would want to repeat.

Whammyammy · 06/12/2024 21:40

I didn't get it, my husband did. He's hone in Bath and I'm currently in London (Heathrow) so area specific I think
