Did anyone else's phone get an alert for the storm? Scared the life out of me! I guess they've finally got it up and running

Also, I am grateful for the warning system, but I'm also very grateful that I wasn't driving (in the dark through heavy rain and fog patches) when it went off. And I'm even more grateful that they didn't set it off in my year 10 lesson period 5 this afternoon!

Daffyyellow · 06/12/2024 19:37

Yup, made me jump, terrified my older teen!

BarbedButterfly · 06/12/2024 19:27

Just got one for a red alert in Plymouth

Same but I think that is because we are in Devon and I think we are still Amber

I haven’t 🤷🏻‍♀️ didn’t get one with the bomb either.

allthepeoplethatcomearound · 06/12/2024 19:41

Coastal North Wales, battening down the hatches tonight!

Tangerinenets · 06/12/2024 19:43

No didn’t get it. I live on the South Coast.

Mugcake · 06/12/2024 19:51

SelfCareBear · 06/12/2024 19:09

Yes but I'd already seen on the news that I'd be getting one so was ready 🤣 Still made me jump a bit though!

Ah I missed the news so it came out of the blue!

Me! I'd never heard the alert noise before so it made me jump a bit. I was in the cinema that time they did the nationwide test, so turned my phone off and didn't get it.

I didn't even get the last one! I assumed they'd not really worked on it since

Crazycatlady79 · 06/12/2024 19:52

We got it in Portishead.

Mugcake · 06/12/2024 19:53

NotMeForBakeoff · 06/12/2024 19:16

I did, but I didn't read it properly. How do you get the information back, or don't you?

This was it

North Devon here, scared the life out of us!

Mugcake · 06/12/2024 19:55

Howmanywishescanastargive · 06/12/2024 19:19

Can I ask where you live that you got it? I didn't get it in London, but I'm due to get the train to York tomorrow and starting to think I should change my plans.

South West so just on the edge of the red zone

Dealingwithatrexrightnow · 06/12/2024 19:56

It went off on all 5 phones - bugger me. Terrifying

RaininSummer · 06/12/2024 19:57

I jumped and nearly threw my dinner on the floor (being a sofa slug tonight) as have never heard it before. Closed it quickly so didn't read it beyond storm.

Mumbleitsoftly · 06/12/2024 19:58

I got it in Swansea. My phone is always everything on silent. Didn't even startle me.

headstone · 06/12/2024 19:58

I had the alert, it says not to drive but I need to ge to work early tomorrow morning in a red zone. Hopefully it won’t be too bad.

CrushingOnRubies · 06/12/2024 20:01

Didn't in Cornwall but dp in Plymouth did

abigaail · 06/12/2024 20:01

We got one while we were at the cinema watching wicked. Everyone's phone was going off during defying gravity!

luckylavender · 06/12/2024 20:05

MadKittenWoman · 06/12/2024 19:14

Yes, got it on both iPhone and iPad, but DS in London didn't.

Is London on red alert?

TheHateIsNotGood · 06/12/2024 20:08

My mobile phone made a noise that sounded a bit different, had a check and it was a Red Alert weather warning that (as I don't rely on my mobile much) told me about the incoming storm with high gusts that I already knew about. The alert was hardly terrifying or anything near that. I can see the Alert's use for the many people who rely on their mobile phones for so many things.

Not downplaying the dangers of high winds - roof slates flying off and landing on people would be the greatest threat in my hood. SW Coastal Town.

Stretchedresources · 06/12/2024 20:10

It's probably gone off in amber areas to stop oblivious people driving into the red zone tomorrow.

MadamePeriwinkle · 06/12/2024 20:11

DD is in Bristol at uni and got one.

I’d already to suggest she makes sure she had what she needs for the weekend and doesn’t go out.

Am a bit worried as phone/internet reception where she is is appalling at the best of times.

I meant it scared me in that it was a loud unexpected noise and it made me jump.

Yep in Devon, scared the life out of me. I thought my phone was going to explode!

lochmaree · 06/12/2024 20:18

I got it just as DS2 was going to sleep! We're in Somerset in an amber area, a few miles from the red alert area.
