Did anyone else's phone get an alert for the storm? Scared the life out of me! I guess they've finally got it up and running

I swear to god I nearly had a heart attack.

SelfCareBear · 06/12/2024 19:09

Yes but I'd already seen on the news that I'd be getting one so was ready 🤣 Still made me jump a bit though!

SoloSofa24 · 06/12/2024 19:11

Me! I'd never heard the alert noise before so it made me jump a bit. I was in the cinema that time they did the nationwide test, so turned my phone off and didn't get it.

MadKittenWoman · 06/12/2024 19:14

Yes, got it on both iPhone and iPad, but DS in London didn't.

BiscuitDreams · 06/12/2024 19:15

Frightened the hell out of my blissfully snoozing cat. 🥲

NotMeForBakeoff · 06/12/2024 19:16

I did, but I didn't read it properly. How do you get the information back, or don't you?

SpeculativeHoumous · 06/12/2024 19:17

I AM SO ALERT

I don't have anything else I can do but I'm alert for the storm now.

Does this mean it's going to blow roofs off and stuff? Should I sleep downstairs? (Serious question)

Christwosheds · 06/12/2024 19:18

It was terrifying ! I was cooking quietly , it made me jump. Dds went off after mine and she squealed in fright.

babasaclover · 06/12/2024 19:19

No! Where are you to get the alert? I'm south east and as usual not expecting much here (fingers crossed as never know)

Howmanywishescanastargive · 06/12/2024 19:19

Can I ask where you live that you got it? I didn't get it in London, but I'm due to get the train to York tomorrow and starting to think I should change my plans.

Tulipvase · 06/12/2024 19:19

I think it only went off in the red alert areas.

sprigatito · 06/12/2024 19:19

Yes! It scared the shit out of us. We're in Exeter so I didn't think we were even in the red zone.

It's only gone to the ref alert area. London isn't in that.

SpeculativeHoumous · 06/12/2024 19:20

Anywhere in the red alert area should have got it.

Is the red alert area, west coasts.

Might be amber as well as I know Exeter is in amber, or was when I looked as my daughter is at uni there.

Octaviathethird · 06/12/2024 19:21

We got it in Bridgwater but we're just outside the red zone. Slightly worried as we are supposed to drive up the M5 through the red zone tomorrow!

It's South West England and Wales that are in the red alert zone.

BBCK · 06/12/2024 19:22

My husband and I were sat together on the sofa when both our phones suddenly screamed at us

BarbedButterfly · 06/12/2024 19:27

Just got one for a red alert in Plymouth

DeffoNeedANameChange · 06/12/2024 19:28

I didn't hear mine because I was out in the rain putting away anything that wasn't attached to the ground.

I know I'm particularly panicky about wind, so I can't tell if I'm being ridiculous- would it be safer to sleep with the kids downstairs in case a chimney came down through the roof? We're mid-devon if that makes a difference. We have plenty of storms, but I don't remember seeing a red warning before.

WeMeetInFairIthilien · 06/12/2024 19:29

In the yellow zone, but geographically close to the amber and red zones. Scared us too.

HobnobbingAboutHobnobs · 06/12/2024 19:31

Mine didn't scare me but thoroughly disturbed my just-asleep 2yo. Bedtime took a lot longer than usual after that! In Cornwall for geographical context.

That's what I'm trying to find out. Stay safe

Frightened the life out of blissfully snoozing me. Couldn’t figure out what it was for a second.
