Reform and abortion

Craftymam · 06/12/2024 10:41

Just a public service announcement as I missed this last week and find it quite shocking that coverage was so low.

Nigel Farage has said he wants to ‘open a new discussion’ on abortion rights.

Considering everything that’s gone on in America, the rise in popularity of reform and this alleged 100 Million donation from Elon musk; I felt I had to bring this to everyone’s attention.

@Julia34
previous posting history is rather interesting.

Only been here for three days. Already over 250 posts in which it has expressed its views that:

Bullies should spend life in prison
We’re soon going to war and there’s going to be another pandemic.
And the above views on abortion.

Not someone anyone IMO should be taking seriously or even bothering to converse with.

It’s clearly only here to get a rise out of people.

If a mother doesn't want a near term baby I don't understand why she can't just give birth to a live baby and give it to to the authorities as opposed to having an abortion.

The thread has been slightly derailed by one poster arguing against something the rest of us are not arguing for.

NF is making noises about needing a discussion about reducing time limits on abortion. Most of us think the UK has it about right and the law doesn't need changing.

Nope.

Nobody has the right to my body.

I love my sister more than anybody or anything on earth.

She does not have the right to piggy back on my liver, my kidneys, or my heart.

If someone's life depends on endangering mine, they can go fuck themselves, and so can you.

What an attitude. Says it al l

And assuming I agree with Sharia law on the basis that I'm pro choice?

Because when Farage debates, things happen. Just take Brexit.

He's also a very modest man. He never once has claimed any credit for all of the good things that Brexit has brought us.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

great post, very funny

such modest, more humble

Preemie babies may suffer in the beginning for a couple of months but the vast majority go on to lead perfectly normal lives, so it’s very much worth it.

That why every effort is given to ensure the baby has every chance of survival

Extremely prem babies often have brain bleeds (often multiple) & can be left profoundly disabled. Some will suffer every day of their lives. Sadly it’s not all rosey futures for neonates who require IC.

Hoardasauruskaren · 08/12/2024 05:20

Here are the abortion statistics for England & Wales 2022. Abortion stats
Fron 2012-2022 the number of abortions performed at 20 weeks remained at 1-2%. Abortions at 24 weeks + were 0.1 % of total in 2022. Women are not terminating in the 2nd-3rd trimester on a whim! Women and their drs should be trusted to make these decisions. The law as it stands works and should remain.

You all realise that while you are arguing with Julia there are some own goals like "no one has abortion at 24 weeks just because they changed their mind about baby" hence unwittingly supporting that the cut off can be shorter since it is not needed or used.

There is also some confusion about want and need for medical reasons cut offs. People saying it shouldn't be allowes later are not talking about medical needs, obviously. Not sure why that needs spelling out.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 08/12/2024 06:29

Let him open it with himself. He didn't win the election. Also, he's a c..., like his hero Trump. Lots of rich men, manipulating people for money.

If nobody has an abortion at 20 plus weeks except for serious medical reasons then there should be logically no reason not to cut it to 20 weeks or even 18.

HRTQueen · 08/12/2024 09:04

He is appealing to his potential funders

and he is an agitator but on this subject most people in this country do not have strong feelings about changing the law

and he will be off the the US soon enough

IDontHateRainbows · 08/12/2024 09:18

I had my baby early, not massively early, but earlier than planned due to massive health risks to me as a mother. My friend had a delivery at 26w due to pre eclampsia, both survived fortunately. So I don't understand anyone who says late tern abortion due to the health of the mother is a valid reason, frankly.

For very prem babies the stats don't look so great as shown below. And this is the ones that survive

1 in 2 premature babies born before 26 weeks of gestation will have some sort of disability

In one study of 241 children born before 26 weeks' gestation the following was found (9):

22% had severe disability (e.g. cerebral palsy and not walking, low cognitive scores, blindness, profound deafness)

24% had moderate disability (e.g. cerebral palsy and walking, IQ/cognitive scores in the special needs range, lesser degree of visual or hearing impairment)

34% had mild disability (defined as low
IQ/cognitive score, squint, requiring glasses)

20% had no problems
