Had a school friend we called Haysi Fantayzee because of her surname. Also had a friend we called Showaddywaddy which she hated us for at the time. Now it just means you’re old if you know it 🤷‍♀️

It's not a voicemail as to do that you call someone.

This way you do it sort of my text (I do it on what's app(.

So you get to explain what you want to say better than a text but don't have to speak to anyone. You can prepare better.

That sounds quite sensible. You just go over it and adjust punctuation etc.

Voicemail you can delete without listening to.
Voice note and youre likely to be required to respond.

Voicemails are much more annoying than a voice note though, with a note you just hit play whenever you’re able to, in order to listen to a voicemail you first have to phone up, listen to an annoying automated message and the phone number painstakingly listed out digit by digit!

What phone do you have? Because you can do voice notes within just the regular iPhone messages app.

I'm not sure there's any difference at all on an iPhone. Either go to Whatsapp, select the thread with the voicenote, press play. Or, for a voicemail select phone, select voicemail and press play on the message

I'm nearly 65. I know that other people my age can manage these things but...My cousin's daughter downloaded WhatsApp for me and set up a groupchat for all the cousins.

Someone phoned me on WhatsApp once and I barely managed to answer it - I didn't know that you could use it that way. I only use the groupchat that the cousin's daughter set up.

I think I reached the stage in my life where I had so many things going on that any new tech just seemed a step too far.

My mum only has the stuff cause I go on and on. She didn't want Amazon Facebook NatWest or What's app now uses them every day.

I steadfastly refused to use electronic banking until lockdown left me with no choice. I prefer using my laptop to my phone, however.

I can manage Amazon. For whatever reason, I find it more difficult to use phone apps.

Voicemail is when someone leaves you a voicemail you don't want to listen to.

Voicenote is when someone sends you a message via WhatsApp that you don't want to listen to.

So you have used an app to chat - the iMessage app. That's what the PP meant about the voice message appearing within the specific chat app (in this case iMessage) rather than a voicemail which appears in the phone app.

I didn’t really know the difference either! I do use what’s app but only for things like school parents group chat, nothing that would involve voice notes. I much prefer to read stuff than listen to it though so I’ll carry on not using voice notes!
