To cancel a night out because of the weather?

Night out planned for Saturday with my friend.
Well more late afternoon
I'm going to the city she lives
It's 2 trains and a bus for me -around 1 1/2 hours journey there and back.
Anyway there's a storm forecast
Gale force winds and heavy rain here
I really really don't want to go out in it
It's walking from pub to pub and the brolly won't keep up so we will be soaking.
Anyway aibu to cancel ?
Re arrange for after Christmas /the new year ?

Are you going there and back to her city on two trains for a pub crawl and she hasn't invited you to stay overnight?

It's a bit of rain not a hurricane. If that's all it takes to cancel a day out we'd never go anywhere in this country. Put a coat on and get on with it I say.

cherrybabyyyy · 05/12/2024 08:08

She hasn't invited me to stay but I wouldn't anyway as she always invites random people home and that's not for me.
It's not the type of place you stay at all night
It will be packed with Christmas party's so won't have a seat anywhere.

@Aaron95 it's forecast heavy rain and 70mph all day so more than just a April shower

Could you change your plans and book something so you’re not walking around?

Dragonsandcats · 05/12/2024 08:11

Or suggest rearranging to somewhere between you rather than cancelling altogether. ----

Christmaseason · 05/12/2024 08:12

As long as you’d understand if she cancelled on you at short notice.

cherrybabyyyy · 05/12/2024 08:12

Not really
Friend doesn't want to do a meal
She wants to dance /drink etc so we are limited
The plan was to wear party dress and no coat
We will be like drown rats
Well I will anyway

Cancel. The thought of cancelled public transport would ruin my night

Jagoda · 05/12/2024 08:15

No coat?!

You mean you’re going to Newcastle?

It seems your idea of a good night isn’t the same as your friends. Suggest you get together another time?

ByMerryKoala · 05/12/2024 08:15

This sounds like a miserable day out for you. You are doing all the travelling to do everything she wants to do, the way she wants to do it with no accommodations for you. Yes I'd cancel, I wouldn't mention the weather.

Offer her the choice of one pub or one restaurant and if she’s inflexible then cancel.

Oh my goodness I was just coming on to say no coat and December means Newcastle 🤣

DowntonFlabbie · 05/12/2024 08:18

Cancelling plans for weather is pretty feeble but the plans sound insane anyway. Party dresses and no coat....are you a 19 year old northerner?

cherrybabyyyy · 05/12/2024 08:18

@Jagoda it is Newcastle 🤣

perfect.

cherrybabyyyy · 05/12/2024 08:20

Unfortunately not 19
But I have bought a nice sparkly dress and didn't want to hide it with a coat 🤣

But you’re only hiding it from the people on a wet street in Newcastle. The people inside the venues will presumably get the full glory of the dress when you take your coat off?

That’s bonkers.

Dragonsandcats · 05/12/2024 08:24

No then, I would definitely cancel in your situation! Hope you have another opportunity to wear your sparkly dress before christmas!

That's the Newcastle spirit!

God I am so southern. 😂

My coat is the most gorgeous and expensive thing I own. I am reluctant to take it off 😄

If you go clubbing, many clubs have areas where you can store your coat. In pubs, hang your coat on the back of your chair.

Common sense?

Mind you, my DD (12 year old) doesnt like to wear a coat...a young person thing?
