To cancel a night out because of the weather?

cherrybabyyyy · 05/12/2024 08:02

Night out planned for Saturday with my friend.
Well more late afternoon
I'm going to the city she lives
It's 2 trains and a bus for me -around 1 1/2 hours journey there and back.
Anyway there's a storm forecast
Gale force winds and heavy rain here
I really really don't want to go out in it
It's walking from pub to pub and the brolly won't keep up so we will be soaking.
Anyway aibu to cancel ?
Re arrange for after Christmas /the new year ?

Good grief just wear a coat! What do you mean "the brolly won't keep up"? Although I would wear a coat with a hood anyway. You can't cancel because of rain! It won't be raining inside the pub.

You don't understand Newcastle 😁

Growlybear83 · 05/12/2024 09:34

I've never heard anything more ridiculous. There's no need for an umbrella - wear a coat with a hood and take it off inside. If you do get a bit wet, you won't go rusty!

cherrybabyyyy · 05/12/2024 08:20

Unfortunately not 19
But I have bought a nice sparkly dress and didn't want to hide it with a coat 🤣

The purpose of a coat is not to 'hide' your nice dress, it's to keep you warm while outdoors.

Random people on the street do not need to see your dress. They will just that "why is that numpty out without a coat in this weather?".

LoafofSellotape · 05/12/2024 09:38

The trains have been a nightmare all week where I live, still recovering from the last storm so I would definitely not be risking getting stranded.

WinterIsNearlyHere · 05/12/2024 09:41

I'm sorry OP but no coat in December is bonkers 😂
If your trains are cancelled your sparkly dress will be fuck all useful.
Wear a warm coat with a hood, suitable footwear, go out and have fun!

Isatis · 05/12/2024 09:45

cherrybabyyyy · 05/12/2024 08:08

She hasn't invited me to stay but I wouldn't anyway as she always invites random people home and that's not for me.
It's not the type of place you stay at all night
It will be packed with Christmas party's so won't have a seat anywhere.

Find somewhere that won't be packed so you can sit down and have a good chat without moving to another pub?

Isatis · 05/12/2024 09:46

Planning to be out and about in Newcastle in December without a coat is insane.

MoserRothOrangeandAlmond · 05/12/2024 10:10

@cherrybabyyyy as a local lass now I'm in my 30s I wear a coat! Gone are the days of my magic cardigan that fit in my very small bag! Most people wear coats! I think the no coat thing was in the 90s/early 2000s mostly and the only people I see are the young teens in small dresses.

Wear the coat and go! The weather wouldn't put me off. Loads of inside places in Newcastle and you can stay in one area where there are a cluster of bars!
I'm out in Newcastle on Saturday! Haven't even looked at the weather!

I think I once read that the reason so many women go out without coats in Newcastle is because literally every pub and club is on the same street. So almost all of them will have taken a taxi to that street and spent max 5 minutes in the open air, then will take a taxi home from that street too. A magnet for tabloid photographers though, who make it seem like all Newcastle women spend hours striding around Newcastle in just minidresses.

No - it because they are too tight to pay for the cloakroom 😂

(I'm from Newcastle - am older and wiser now and would take a coat 😂 )

mumtotwo11 · 05/12/2024 10:21

@cherrybabyyyy could you get a taxi ? I live out in the sticks now and for the odd treck into town I train in taxi back x

TyreChangeLightOn · 05/12/2024 10:23

Lots of people on the his thread don't understand Newcastle. There'll be no seats. And nowhere to put a coat without faff or it getting wrecked.

I'd go, OP. Christmas spirit and all that.

Then why would you go out there at all?

Jagoda · 05/12/2024 08:26

God I am so southern. 😂

My coat is the most gorgeous and expensive thing I own. I am reluctant to take it off 😄

Now we need a picture of your coat because that sounds like just what I am after right now. Sorry for the massive detail OP. Sack it off, it sounds grim and 2.5 hours home on public transport after a skinful is not going to be fun!

Jagoda · 05/12/2024 15:36

Here you go. I don’t think it will appeal to everyone though!

To cancel a night out because of the weather?
5128gap · 05/12/2024 15:42

Buy a coat with a hood from the charity shop. Tuck in hair head down hood up from pub to pub. Coat off and over your arm at the door. When you get to the last venue stick your coat anywhere because it doesn't matter if it gets trashed. Then taxi to the station for last train home.

mitogoshigg · 05/12/2024 15:53

It's only 90 minutes away - takes me that get to the music pub in the city near me, did it in the last storm

SoNiceToComeHomeTo · 05/12/2024 15:57

If you're hardy enough to wear a sparkly dress with no coat in December I'm sure you'll cope with a bit of rain.
Or you could wear a coat, just this once?

FourForYouGlenCoco1 · 05/12/2024 15:59

It’s my wedding anniversary this weekend, and I told my husband that if this had been the forecast for our wedding day, it would have been called off. Only half joking…!

I wouldn’t want to traipse around in such weather, so I don’t think you’re being unreasonable. I hate going outside when the wind speeds exceed 14mph, let alone when it’s c. 50mph

Tink3rbell30 · 05/12/2024 15:59

No need to cancel, just stay in one place.

coxesorangepippin · 05/12/2024 15:59

cherrybabyyyy · 05/12/2024 08:18

@Jagoda it is Newcastle 🤣

I'm expecting trains will be cancelled. You would be mad to even try it, even with a coat. I'm not fsr from there and won't be stepping foot outside, if I can help it.

I'm also out in Newcastle on Saturday and didn't realise there was a weather issue until I saw this thread!
Anyway, we're all heading into our late 40s so coats will be involved in our plans.

Nc546888 · 05/12/2024 16:10

YABU just get on with it. It’s Britain, can’t wait for bloody good weather all the time we wouldn’t go anywhere

cherrybabyyyy · 05/12/2024 08:18

Hilarious. I lived there till I was 18 so didn't go out much but my friend used to get away with no coat but I didn't...mum and dad wouldn't let me out without one. 🤣. I'm going back in March for a 50 year reunion since we started senior school and will be wearing a coat and going out at lunch time as I don't do nights out in town.

Openuniversity22 · 05/12/2024 16:17

I’d reschedule as it’s likely trains will be cancelled due to the winds and you end up stranded/ having to stay at hers!

Or alternatively, is there a town or something halfway you could meet in for drinks so you’re not having to risk such a long journey in bad weather? X
