Night out planned for Saturday with my friend.
Well more late afternoon
I'm going to the city she lives
It's 2 trains and a bus for me -around 1 1/2 hours journey there and back.
Anyway there's a storm forecast
Gale force winds and heavy rain here
I really really don't want to go out in it
It's walking from pub to pub and the brolly won't keep up so we will be soaking.
Anyway aibu to cancel ?
Re arrange for after Christmas /the new year ?

I wouldn't go, as wouldn't look forward to it if it was pissing it down and windy etc. Maybe when I was in my 20's 🤣🤣

Oreyt · 05/12/2024 19:11

Never known anyone to go into town in a coat.

What on earth do you mean?!

Apolloneuro · 05/12/2024 19:25

My Saturday morning plans are likely cancelled, due to an Amber weather alert for wind. Just not worth the risk of driving around unless really necessary, in my book.

I've never been to Newcastle in my life but even I know what this means...

Obviously people wear coats in town all the time. To say you’ve never known anyone wear a coat into town sounds absurd.

AlviarinAesSedai · 05/12/2024 19:51

If you go at least the train station isn’t far from the ‘Bigg Market’ . But please wear your coat it’s bloody freezing in Newcastle at moment. ❄️💃🏻🍸

FestiveFruitloop · 05/12/2024 19:51

Did you grow up in a party town? I did, and no one went out at night wearing a coat even in the depths of winter. 😄 I'm talking young adult days here, mind you - I'd never do it now, unless it was a warm day/evening.

FestiveFruitloop · 05/12/2024 19:52

Sorry, that was to @Oreyt

cherrybabyyyy · 05/12/2024 19:54

@Sidebeforeself I've seen pictures and it looks manic
I work mom-Fri so weekends is the only day I can go
I'm hoping it has died down by next week

Honestly these days I’d be grateful for the excuse to cancel! Definitely not BU.

We used to go out with no coats on in the south-west city I grew up in. I remember standing in the queue for a club with actual snow falling while my friends and I were basically wearing petticoats, just so we didn’t have to pay for the cloakroom 🤣

It's a joke.....

LoobyDoop2 · 05/12/2024 20:07

Just say to your friend that you really don’t fancy attempting the original plan in that weather, and would she rather do something different that will work better, or postpone to another time.

AlwaysGinPlease · 05/12/2024 20:15

I would cancel. It's a long way to travel and it'll be dark.

Lifestooshort71 · 05/12/2024 20:20

I think you're not keen to go anyway and perhaps you're not into bar-hopping nights out any more? I can't remember even looking at the forecast when I was younger, let alone allowing the weather to spoil a good night out .....but now.....!

cherrybabyyyy · 05/12/2024 08:18

@Jagoda it is Newcastle 🤣

Geordie here… I’m going out Saturday and will 100% be wearing a coat 🤣🤣

MoserRothOrangeandAlmond · 06/12/2024 09:06

@Geordie01 snap!!

superplumb · 06/12/2024 19:02

Nah not for me. If staying over was an option fine but you could get stranded if the trains stop

Hilarious.

@Plastictrees

Out to town as in drinking at night not just day shopping.

Yer a major city. It just wasn't usual to think about taking a coat.

Oopsadaisy92 · 11/12/2024 09:34

Hotel?? It only needs to be a cheap premier inn that way you dont need to faff around with trains and buses...
