Just that really.

What kind of things do they like in general? Have they got good stamina ? I suppose it depends how they live their lives. Would love some feedback on things like -

kind of things they’d like to receive for birthdays /Xmas

music they like?

in case someone’s asking - I’ve got a little crush 🤣

And there seems to be a disconnect with then a 56 year old grew up! As a 54 year old the earliest music I remember is ABBA, Bonnie Tyler, Blondie not the bloody Tremelos! He would have been born (almost certainly as it's December) in 1968 and would have been a teen in the 80s so listened to The Jam/The Cure/The Smiths/New Romantics and then Brit Pop in his 20s...

Everyone of a certain age on this thread - do you remember those dreadful Top Of The Pops compilation albums they used to sell in Woolies. It was the top 20 hits each month sung by session singers and there was always a scantily clad young woman on the cover.

Haha no I don’t recall that !

I suspect they are all different.

I'm not.

”Come on without… Come on within…” 🎵🎶🎵

personally I MUCH prefer Manfred Mann to Britpop!!

You’re unusual and must realise that but crack on with whatever you love 😊

Lemonadeand · 05/12/2024 09:41

Some are running marathons and some have already died.

Yes 1968 so possibly conceived in the back of a Morris Minor .. 🤣

Anyway on a serious note I love Tremeloes but also Ska (as someone said - I’m too nice to talk to..) but also New Romantics /New Wave but yuck not grunge or Britpop

Err that’s more something my 82 year old dad would appreciate.

My 50/60 something male friends would prefer listening to MAW, Frankie Knuckles, David Morales, Sandy Rivera, Roger Sanchez, Dave Lee JN, Todd Terry, Lil Louis, Dimitri From Paris- that sort of thing

Edited

My DH and a couple of his mates all took our teens to see Green Day and Muse live recently, also 21 Pilots, Queen and the Killers (at a grand prix in Austen with his mates). DH desperate to see the Lottery Winners.

My DH is also a classical music fan, though, so also likes a Sibelius or Mahler concert. His dream birthday present would be ECB membership, though, as he and his mates love taking their teen kids to major cricket matches (my DS loves the food tents and the fact that he can drink lager all day without being carded, which DH also loves).

I know a lot of men this age - every single one is completely different funnily enough.

Some love sport, some have zero interest.

Music taste is way off. I’m 54 - I do not like Manfred Mann. Portishead is ok - haven’t heard it since the 90s.

I think for me Brit pop reminds me of an era of hope more than anything. The 90s were a good decade.. end of cold war (after all the being nuked angst), fall of the Berlin Wall, New Labour, advances in technology, there seemed to be more money around (though appreciate not for everyone). I was in my best job ever, I was young and hopeful.

Lifeomars · 05/12/2024 09:51

never realised they were all part of a homogenous group, was under the impression that they are all individuals shaped by their life experiences , A bit like people in general.

That’s fair enough - Massive Attack were better.

Jumell · 05/12/2024 08:46

I could get him a compilation take of hits by :

Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick and Tich
Tremeloes
Manfred Man
Amen Corner
The Move
Herman’s Hernits
Small Faces

What fabulous music there was back then !

That’s before his time. He’d have been barely a baby when they were hitting the charts.

Mr Serenity is 53 and he likes:

Football
Books ( history, politics, classics, and some fiction)
Black and white films
60's/70's music
Travel
Walking

but also....
Nights out dancing to cheesy music
Days out mooching around pubs
Karaoke
Any kind of sitcom but especially American ones like Frasier
Cheesy romcoms ( leap year, the holiday etc)

He's one on his own!!

Yes! Oh god they were so awful!
They used to be playing in all the shops in town in the 70s, and used to make me cringe when I heard one of my favourites mangled by someone who could barely sing.

Mnetcurious · 05/12/2024 10:01

You may as well ask how long is a piece of string! Some men like football, others don’t. Some men like cooking, others don’t. You get the idea. 56 year old men are not a homogeneous group.

But you want to know what music 56 year old men like. What you like isn’t really relevant.
