To think this attack on London Jewish schoolchildren should have been headline news

I have been waiting for this story to go mainstream, and I’m shocked that it hasn’t.

So far, it seems only the Daily Mail has reported on it - https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-14142235/amp/Jewish-children-terrified-thugs-London-bus-rocks-Israel.html.

When are we going to start taking the threats against Jews in the UK seriously and actually do something about it?

Thugs throw rocks at bus with Jewish children and yell 'f*** Israel'

Students at JFS in Kenton, north London, were travelling on buses operated by Uno, when the vehicles were set upon by a group of teenage thugs at a bus stop in Edgware, on Wednesday.

This is irrelevant. The children on that bus have no control over what Israel's government does. Even children in Israel have no say on that.

And here already we have numerous examples of people justifying the attacks on British children, purely because they are Jewish.

I am truly starting to think that we have a deep problem of anti-Semitic radicalisation from some communities in the UK, requiring a much stronger response to start rooting it out.

It's honestly horrifying to read some of the comments on this thread. It makes no sense. These are children we are talking about. And even if they weren't children, it still would be totally abhorrent to attack them

JJLA · 04/12/2024 08:28

I guess because there have always been scummy children attacking other children. I went to a private school in London and the nearby state school which was quite rough, would always look for excuses to attack pupils from my school because they thought we were posh. Another friend had the same experience at school.

It’s really sad as it will enforce the fear in those children that people hate them just because they’re Jewish, but it’s a classic case of disruptive and scummy children looking for any excuse for trouble.

TheMixedGirl · 04/12/2024 08:28

There are attacks om children of all ethnicities and religions everyday in the UK. Some of which have resulted in death These are not reported in mainstream media either.

On* not om

VestPantsandSocks · 04/12/2024 08:29

The point is that ALL children in the world should have the safety to go to school.

Contrary to belief, I am not anti semetic, I highly respect Jewish people for their commitment to their faith and count Jewish people amongst my friends.

Another example of the double edged approach to jews though. Either they are responsible OR they are so low level they don’t count. Make up your mind….

That was not your point at all

SemperIdem · 04/12/2024 08:34

As a pp said, I think one reason for not widely reporting the incident is an attempt to prevent other similar ones, unfortunately.

I do find some of the responses on this thread jaw dropping. They are children, they have done nothing wrong. Being Jewish is not a crime, irrespective of any opinion someone may hold of Israel’s actions against Palestine.

@ThisPerkySheep , there quite clearly is a community of unashamed antisemites on Mumsnet who appear to consider attacks on Jewish children entirely justified. Some people have evil, evil hearts.

Throwing stones at a school bus is obviously very wrong but it wouldn't normally be headline news.

That is what I was thinking. Even stabbings are often not headline news nowadays so not surprising stones thrown at a bus didn't make the headlines.

Absolutely this.
A good school in SW London used to get '' roughs'' bullying them outside the school sometimes- the uniform was /is distinctive.
Some kids are just feral, and out looking for any excuse to be horrible to other children.

This pic {1937} shows to a minor degree. {Eton}

What has this got to do with attacking Jewish children on a bus in London?

That's not at all what I said. What I said is attacks on children whatever their ethnicity or religion doesn't make headline news. Jewish or not. I NEVER said because the kids are Jewish they don't count or are less. Your interpretation of what I said is totally inaccurate.

redalex261 · 04/12/2024 08:42

It’s disgraceful this hasn’t been reported more widely, sadly I suspect @ThatShyRoseViper ’s hope the lack of coverage is to discourage copycat attacks is probably misplaced. I simply do not understand how anyone can justify targeting children (in any circumstance) never mind because they are the same race or religion as ADULTS involved in a conflict on the other side of the world.

This is unacceptable in the UK. It’s flat out bigotry and discrimination. Can you imagine the furore if these kids had been targeted because they were black or muslim? Why is this not exactly the same?

TENSsion · 04/12/2024 08:43

It’s absolutely disgusting what Jewish children are being faced with.
They have my absolute sympathy and support.

What can we do to help?

This isn't relevant to the topic at hand.

stonecutter · 04/12/2024 08:46

I am so deeply saddened by some of these comments.

If you read about British Jews 1 children or adults - being attacked and feel the need to respond by talking about Gaza then you need to take a long hard look at yourself as you are absolutely antisemitic.

Why is it relevant to bring up at all? I cannot believe this frequency in which these things are being said in 2024 especially by people on the left who would defend any other minority.

I bet you're also the ones who say "I am not antisemitic. I am antizionist."

How on earth did you reach that conclusion from what she said? That’s quite some reach from a comment that doesn’t discriminate in any way…

wombat15 · 04/12/2024 08:35

Hmm I can think of examples where it would be if the demographics different.

redalex261 · 04/12/2024 08:55

It’s not just tough kids attacking private school-kids or normal antisocial behaviour (still unacceptable) if they are shouting “fuck Israel” at the bloody bus is it? It’s targeted specifically at the bus occupants because they happen to be jewish. Are people being wilfully obtuse or really half witted? It’s right there in the article.
