Strangers in your block of flats asking you to lend them money ‘til their dole money comes through then stropping off offended when refused

being bitten by Rottweiler outside flats

heroin addict dead in flats - body lay undiscovered for 2 weeks - admittedly happened, but admittedly NOT during time I lived here

kids graffitiing stairwells with pens

my windscreen wipers snapped off in flat car park

woman I suspect is prostitute due to comings and goings - but not 100% sure and u may have got it wrong

loud arguments between neighbours about noise

a few serious ex offenders housed

  • however - it’s otherwise alright ! 👍😀

Why do you ask?

Otherwise alright?? What things specifically would you class as alright?

BeatriceAndLottie · 03/12/2024 13:52

Considering nobody is psychic and you don’t reveal where the area actually is then this is an absolutely bizarre and pointless post.

It was my lame attempt at humour..

Are there any redeeming features? I used to live in a flat where some of those things happened sometimes, but I wouldn’t describe the area as rough in the least. It was right next to a waitrose and had lots of green spaces and nice friendly neighbours.

Very very cheap properties

I mean, that's about as grotty as it gets, right? I've lived peacefully in lots of places that mnetters would stick their noses up at but, with the exception of the minor inconvenience of graffiti, I've never had to deal with any shit like that. Given half the chance I'd be off.

Bananalanacake · 03/12/2024 13:55

The people who ask to borrow money, what would happen if you suggested they get a job, or would they be all offended at that too.

Jumell · 03/12/2024 13:56

Also sometimes when I drive to work you sometimes see groups of around 6 police officers trying to break open the main door of the flats - like you used to see on the bill

People on the dole wouldn't bother me but being asked for a loan by neighbours I didn't know well would. Prostitutes and graffiti- not ideal if it brings a high footflow of strangers by your door. Addicts and rottweilers? I wouldn't personally want to live with neighbours like that or have my children.

The lady said she used to have a cleaning job but is now injured

Doesn't sound like a particularly desirable place to live

Dramatic · 03/12/2024 13:58

Sounds like where I live but there's no blocks of flats, it's just a housing estate. 3 of my daughter's classmates (out of 20) are the children of the local drug dealers 🙈

I don’t know what they think but I think this is both spiteful and petty.

AhBiscuits · 03/12/2024 13:59

Can you move?
Sound fucking horrible.

HaddyAbrams · 03/12/2024 13:59

I live in an area that MN generally hates. And I think what you've described sounds rough as can be! It's positively upper-class here in comparison!

Nolegusta · 03/12/2024 13:59

Jumell · 03/12/2024 13:51

Peoples opinions ..

Why do you need people's opinions?
The answer seems obvious.

mitogoshigg · 03/12/2024 14:01

In an urban setting this is possible in most lower priced areas as people are much more mixed up. Where I live it would be highly unusual so you would run a mile

Jumpingthruhoops · 03/12/2024 14:03

Pretty much sounds like where I grew up in the 90s! And there were MUCH rougher areas than that...

Icantdothus124 · 03/12/2024 14:08

No fridge freezer on the stairwell? Sounds like a palace

Icantdothus124 · 03/12/2024 14:10

I have a friend that lives in a block of flats exactly like you've just described, she's a lovely sweet girl and works full time in a corporate job, but being single it's about all she can afford, it's a shame, it's beautiful inside she's made it lovely but it's really small and surrounded by utter scum bags

LoobyDoop2 · 03/12/2024 14:11

Surely that’s as bad as it gets. I tend to think on an out of 5 basis. 4 out of 5 being a bit gritty, you need to be aware of security, you wouldn’t want your kids hanging around the park at night, but the majority of people who live there might not choose to stay if they could afford it, but they don’t feel like they’re in a war zone. and your description being 5 out of 5. Actively having a negative effect on residents’ wellbeing just being there.

It sounds horrendous. Obviously. What is the point of this thread?
