Annual Xmas movie argument has started, help me settle it once and for all!

YANBU - Die Hard is an action movie that happens to be set at Xmas therefore does not count as a xmas movie

YABU - Die Hard is obviously a Xmas movie!

Every single year me, my ex, all the kids and my DSis and BIL all argue (good naturedly) about this!

If East 17’s Stay Another Day can be a Xmas song, then Die Hard can be a Xmas movie

Both the first Die Hard movies are xmas movies. Definitely.

By the way, if you think "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" sung by Frank Sinatra is an xmas song, have you seen/heard it used in The Victors (1963) - not an xmas movie? It puts it in a very different light.

I say that as one who has written a dissertation about Christmas novies.

I remember that Rosenthal play. Y'tang Yang Kipperbang! Not as good as Bar Mitzvah Boy IMHO.

Die Hard is about a man trying to get back to his family at Christmas the terrorist just adds the comedy element.

I think stay another day is a Christmas song. Wasn’t it number 1 at Christmas? It has a very poignant meaning.
There aren’t many good Christmas films in my opinion.

Did you know that the look on Han's face as he falls off the tower is actually completely genuine? The crew told Alan (who was 40 feet above the floor in a harness) that they were going to count to three and drop him on three.

Remove the Christmas trappings and it’s a story about resistance against and triumph over an invading force. It’s a Chanukah film and I’ll die on this hill (seriously please let me have this, have you SEEN the utter tripe that passes for Chanukah films?!)

It's a journey, on Christmas Eve, to deliver presents to children, with obstacles in the way. Redemption and joy at the end.

Plus, it's brilliant!

Oh and I'm a fan of bringing cultures and religions together so it can definitely be a Hanukkah film as well.

My favourite Christmas movie is an old classic from 1942: Holiday Inn- Bing Crosby, Frank Astaire... Those were the days when movies had souls and meanings. And I'm 80s generation, just really love old movies.

I’ve never seen die hard. But I wouldn’t consider gremlins to be a Christmas movie.

The gremlins even to carol singing… sort of 🤣

And when you look the movie up, you get;
