Biden has pardoned his son because his conviction was a "miscarriage of justice".

Is this the total end of standards and even a pretence at integrity in public life? This is a president, who admittedly like all the others, allowed innocent people to be executed in their joke of a justice system. What a hypocrite.

My point is, seemingly in politics playing fair gets you nowhere these days. Trump will be gunning for Hunter - is it right what Biden has done? No. Is it understandable? Yes.
Does anyone who voted for an actual criminal get to to sit on their high horse about this? Also no.

Whoever thought playing fair gets you anywhere is plain stupid.

I’m not sure Trump will actually bother going after Hunter, it won’t really get him anything and he has too many other things he can do to advantage himself. Biden and the democrats have gone, he won’t waste his time.

This isn't suddenly deciding you want tea instead of coffee, it's someone who's decisions affect billions of people. Its the most powerful man on the planet demonstrating that the criminal justice system doesn't apply to his family.

Unreal that you're even asking this question.

I've said I don't agree with what he's done. You may want to google the definition of 'telling a lie' as I 'can't believe' you don't know what it is and it may make future posts easier to understand.

There's a difference between selfserving and being a convicted felon and an insurrectionist, as well as a serial sexual abuser of women and underage girls.

Someone just said above playing fair doesn't get you anywhere these days.

In fact it sounds like he's ticking all the boxes.

GreenSedan · 02/12/2024 07:52

They're all as bad as each other. I honestly don't understand why people think Democrats are the goodies and Reuplicans are the baddies. It's such a juvenile point of view. They're all self-serving. So pleased I don't live there.

HeddaGarbled · 02/12/2024 07:52

I don't blame Biden one bit. He's finally doing what Trump would have done without blinking

Yeah, that’s what I think. One final “fuck you” after years of just taking all the crap. I hope he has a peaceful and happy retirement. I doubt it’ll be long, bless him.

I'm not going to pardon my son is a lie

Hope that's clear

No idea why anyone has an issue with Trump then.

I’m sure you can think of a few things.

I'm just using the same logic to defend Trump that people are to defend Biden

Why should Trump give a crap when he can get away with it?

I agree, it’s an insane system, but given the US populace has just voted for a convicted felon to hold the role of president it would be hypocrisy in the highest degree for them to have a peep of a complaint about this.

Its scary and sad but the US is a nation in dizzying, catastrophic decline.

Every new position Trump announces being appointed to a known conspiracy theorist with close to zero background in the role makes it scarier and more insane.

NetZeroZealot · 02/12/2024 07:54

I can understand why he’s done it but I wish he hadn’t. He’s just ceded the moral high ground to Trump.

ruffler45 · 02/12/2024 07:54

His was a victimless crime.

Is there really such as thing? Soneone lost something as a result of a crime

Do you live in the UK? If so, our lot are all self serving arseholes too. If not, do you live somewhere with better leaders? Can’t think of many, or any.

I’m just not sure it’s a risk I’d be willing to take. Trump has shown himself in the past to be petty and vindictive, Hunter Biden is an easy win for him.
As a PP said far more eloquently than me, the majority of the American electorate just voted against morality, ethics and the rule of law. They can’t be upset when someone else behaves the same. (And as above, in a normal situation I’d disagree with what Biden has done, but honestly I just can’t get upset about it in these circumstances).

ruffler45 · 02/12/2024 07:56

US populace has just voted for a convicted felon

Perhaps because they thought he was the least worse option

Cromwell1905 · 02/12/2024 07:57

If Hunter Biden had not committed any crimes he would not need a pardon, all Joe Biden is saying is that his son is a criminal and like most parents he is doing what he can to give him the best life he can.

Cantalever · 02/12/2024 03:32

But this is his own son. Biden previously claimed he would not intervene in the juystice system on his son's behalf, or grant him clemency, bht has just gone back on all that. its like the last gasp of a feeble ruler who has lost all sense of wider issues.

What kind of parent given the legal power to pardon wouldn’t pardon their own child?

thesilvermoon · 02/12/2024 07:58

Also, why should Biden care what randos on the internet think of his sensible choice to protect his son from Trump's whims? He's just endured months of people mocking his age and saying he has dementia and is unfit for the role.

GridlockonMain · 02/12/2024 07:58

NetZeroZealot · 02/12/2024 07:54

The moral high ground is irrelevant to Trump. It has been abundantly clear for a number of years that he doesn’t need to hold the moral high ground to be elected as president. In fact, the more evidence of his immorality that comes to light, the more entrenched his supporters become in their adoration.

What Biden has done is immoral. What Trump has done utterly dwarfs it in scope and consequence. The moral high ground is no longer a relevant feature of the US political process.

The UK and the US have very different political systems and cultures. Lots to criticise here, but nowhere near the same.

They didn’t though, they voted for economic policies that they feel are better and against wokeness. Nothing much will change in terms of ethics and law once his term starts.

The same female posters who are defending the most powerful man in the World using his position for his own personal gain?

Hope nobody complains when they don't get a promotion because their boss was just doing what was normal by promoting someone they had a personal interest in. That would be other men mostly.
