Biden has pardoned his son because his conviction was a "miscarriage of justice".

Is this the total end of standards and even a pretence at integrity in public life? This is a president, who admittedly like all the others, allowed innocent people to be executed in their joke of a justice system. What a hypocrite.

Talk about "Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely"

It was his wife, Neilia, and one year old daughter, Naomi, who died in the car crash. His son, Beau. died of glioblastoma in 2015.

ah my bad, makes it all ok, just a wife a daughter and son.... no biggie then.

Incredible some cannot see that as he approaches the end of his life and with someone like Trump in power, Biden wouldn't want to protect his surviving son.

I notice though that no one is saying they would leave their adult child to Trumps "mercy"

MustTryHarderAndHarder · 03/12/2024 21:49

I think that most parents would have done the same, but the point is that he shouldn't have been allowed to do it.

The US has some ridiculous laws.

AdventCarols · 03/12/2024 22:06

If most people would have done the same then most people should not be in the position to be able to to do so.

If it turned out your son was a serial killer would you be happy to stand in front of his victims families and justify yourself that you didn’t know about those crimes when you pardoned him of all criminal activity over the last ten years?

I'm not angry. You're just wrong 😀

If you believe that the person who shot Ashli Babbit was the only armed person, I suspect you're beyond fact.

https://eu.statesman.com/story/news/politics/politifact/2022/06/15/fact-check-were-firearms-other-weapons-capitol-jan-6/7621149001/

(and 'a bit' is two words)

I have no idea who eu statesman are - never heard of 'em. That "article" literally said Tucker Carlson is wrong (I didn't mention him) and no background, evidence or anything. So not the gotcha you think (and Ashli Babbitt has two Ts - you spelt it wrong 😀).

No it not OK but you are happy to use his multiple bereavements to excuse his behaviour without actually caring enough to familiarising yourself with the details.

There's this inability to be able to think

Hmm Biden's government have abused power in various ways and it's appalling

AND simultaneously think that shit Trumps even worse.

And this isn't a contradiction it's actually consistency and about standards in public life and a whole collapse in them across the board resulting in mass drops in public trust (which is reflected in actually polling on the subject).

This inability to be able to hold two thoughts in your head at the same time with any consistency and thought process to the justice, legal and political systems, seems to be like a virus that eats people's brains and turns them into zombies only capable of repeating someone else.

Well said as usual, RedToothBrush

You were also correct about some who'll say "anything^ to defend "their side" and that it legitimises other politicians behaving the same way, but I wouldn't worry; if Trump does similar (which wouldn't surprise me at all) you'll get countless posters insisting that's somehow "different" Hmm

Nikkigriffin · 03/12/2024 23:16

After paying all the taxes owed, I didn't see any point in furthering the case, his mum and baby sister died and he was severely injured in the car wreck that killed them when he was a kid. Then his brother died and then he became addicted.
Others would not have been dragged to court. A plea deal would have been done and case over. Trump would have made sure the DOJ would have put Hunter in prison for a long time. I personally think Biden should give pardons to all of Trump's critics to keep them safe, from Stormy Daniels to Jack Smith. Even try self pardoning to test the Supreme Court and set a precedent in case Trump tries it in the future. Trump makes shit up on the spot and follows no rules. I don't think Biden really cares what folk think anymore.

But his son isn't a serial killer, so thats not a valid comparison to make.

However, i don't think any political leader should have the power to pardon convicted criminals, then again, justice systems shouldn't be able to be politically manipulated ie Supreme court appointments.

I just understand why Biden has done this, perhaps, had Nicky Hayden won the election, he wouldn't have felt the need too but Trump is not your normal person, by any stretch of the imagination.

I grant it is unlikely he is a serial killer, but the point is we don’t know what crimes he may have committed and if it were to come out that he had murdered a series of young girls over the last ten years, or run a drug cartel, or scammed hundreds of elderly Americans out of their life savings, Biden has already pardoned him for those crimes and his victims would never get justice.

Well, i accept that point but as far as i'm aware, there has been nothing to suggest such crimes may have been committed by him.

On the other hand, would you be comfortable if Trump goes after him and gets sentences imposed on HB many times longer than any ordinary person would get?

AdventCarols · 04/12/2024 08:54

Trump can’t impose sentences. That would be the courts.

In four years time all the Tru.p haters will have to admit that he was one of the greatest presidents of all time. I couldn't stand him in 2016 so I did loads of research. Msm lies about him.he isn't a politician so he says what he thi ks. He has promised to end the mutilation of children, he doesn't believe in abortion after 15 weeks unless the mothers life is in danger/rape or incest. He destroyed isis he wants to stop millions of illegal immigrants, he will ban men from women's sport and changing rooms. He will curb chinese expansion stop the wsr in ukraine, ban unsafe food additivess, eg uk macdonalds fries 3 ingredients US macdonalds frie 17 ingredients.Sounds fantastic to me. Hunter Biden is scum a completely useless rich boy. Biden had dementia and was a puppet and kamala just a liar.

The other "sniffing children" videos of him all appear to be fakes.

Didn’t the Democrats say exactly the same thing about all the videos showing Biden’s cognitive decline?

I liked that footage of him biting a baby's leg. That was funny (as long as you weren't the baby or its mother)

So glad so many agree with me

You’re confusing republicans with the Democrats. It is the left who are all for censoring speech and ‘hate crimes’. c.f. Gavin Newson in California.

Gavin Newsom's misinformation laws risk more censorship

California Governor Gavin Newsom has signed three bills this week targeting AI misinformation, but critics argue that the legislation will serve as a Trojan horse for censorship. “I just signed a bill to make this illegal in the state of California,”...

Really? so it wasn't the Conservatives that have introduced some of the most draconian anti protest laws here in the UK?

Right or Left, you'd need to be a fool to think either care about free speech once in power.... what exactly is "free" about Trump boasting he will go after people who have opposed him?

However, AI, Deep fake or whatever you want to call it, is going to be a huge problem going forward, as more and more people get their news from social media platforms with zero to no regulation.

AdventCarols · 04/12/2024 14:58

No, that would be the SNP who would arrest you for something you said over the dinner table with your family.

LightReader · 04/12/2024 15:59

I think he was quite right to pardon his son. I don’t like their system however after Trump pardoned pals last time and has stated he would pardon Jan 6 rioters plus the fact that Trump looks like he’ll get off with his various crimes there’s no way I’d sit back and let my child go to jail after all that. Overall terrible corrupt system but I don’t blame Biden at all for this in light of what Trump has done.

GrannyHelen1 · 04/12/2024 16:57

Oriunda · 02/12/2024 04:04

Tbh I don’t blame him. Biden knows full well that Trump is going to wreak havoc and fill every position of power with his acolytes. I’d hate to have a child in prison who would be at the mercy of the vengeful orange one. Trump has pardoned all sorts of criminals; at this point there really is no point in playing the nice guy and turning the other cheek.

Exactly. I find the outrage over this issue totally hypocritical, seeing that a convicted felon has just been elected president, thus sidestepping all accountability for his corruption and criminal actions. Now I hope Biden follows up with any legal protection he can provide for the many honest people who are likely to suffer from Trump's bottomless spite and need for veangance.

Trump's absolutely a politician. He doesn't say what he thinks, he says what he thinks will get him elected. He used to support abortion but has switched to keep conservatives happy. Now he's been elected on the back of pie in the sky promises like eliminating inflation. But yeah, I look forward to him making McDonald's remove excessive ingredients from their fries 🙄

Daysgo · 04/12/2024 19:24

Bidens right. Trump etc has said for years they'll go after Hunter Biden. We all, I think, know that Trump etc will interfere in any investigations, and as president will interfere in investigations result. Trump pardoned lots including family in laws. Also id say biden doesn't give a shit re effect on democrats, why would he? They dumped him. Id say he wants to protect his son from malicious attacks.

Lol. Do you think we're under the impression he's ten years old?

He is the child of the US president. Age makes no difference to that.
