Posting on here because it’s urgent.

its currently 1am, im locked inside an airbnb in a foreign country, and my door handle came off, could use some help and advice. Tried watching videos to no avail, left a message for the airbnb guy, don’t think he speaks English if I called (airbnb translates our messages), trying to call air BnB. If anyone’s awake I could use some help

It doesn't take much reading to work out that there wasn't a host in the vicinity.

Sorry?

I asked her what kind of airbnb she was in.

Havalona · 02/12/2024 10:54

WHAT COUNTRY WERE YOU IN? Caps used deliberately so I know that the Fire Service will help me if I'm ever there and in trouble like that.

Airbnb includes self contained flats (in blocks), complete houses for your sole use, and rooms in someone's house (where they are also living there.)

What type of place were you in?
It sounds as if you were in a bedroom in someone's house.
If that's the case, your host would either help out or sort out help for you.

Edited

It’s probably a one bedroom apartment.

It’s probably a one bedroom apartment.

Maybe, although an 'apartment' usually includes an en suite, even in a studio flat, otherwise it's a shared bathroom on a landing.

But it’s not a shared bathroom on a landing if there’s only one bedroom in the apartment - there’s no-one else to share the bathroom with. Bathrooms in one bedroom apartments can be ensuite or separate, I wouldn’t say that they are ‘usually’ ensuite at all.

Will never close an airbnb door again

Also, don't open a window! My DDs were in an Airbnb in the summer, in another country, and they wanted to open the window a little as it was so hot over summer. The whole window fell out - frame and all! They called the host, who was unsurprised as 'it has happened before'!!! He said don't worry I'll come and repair it first thing in the morning, errr - it's only the first floor and we have no window at all, just a huge hole. Don't worry, he says, this is a very safe country 😮

duc748 · 02/12/2024 11:49

It often strikes me how coy MN posters often are for revealing what country they are in. Which you wouldn't have thought would be especially outing. Of course, there are going to be a variety of reasons for this.

The people being rude about the OP asking for advice here first are the reason the emergency services are under so much pressure.
The fact they would instantly jump to calling an emergency service without trying to find a solution first shows a huge lack of awareness and is pretty selfish.
The OP asked here because someone may well have had a solution that didn’t require using services that are for an emergency.
How posters can’t see that is beyond me.

duc748 · 02/12/2024 12:25

My first instinct would have been to try Google before starting a talkboard thread, I must admit. But then again, people start threads about "do I need a visa to fly to the US", so what can you say?

I must admit my first instinct would be to read the OPs post before jumping to conclusions.

Who knows!

It’s pretty obvious she is renting a whole property to herself. I mean, really. You think she is in a house share or a room in the host’s home and instead of calling out loudly for attention, she called the fire department?

It is so bloody clear that she is renting a whole property (could be a flat or a house but it doesn’t make any difference) and she got trapped in the bedroom with no one else in the property to rescue her. I can’t believe you need this spelling out to you.

oh, and I’ve lived in 4 different one bedroom flats, none of them had an en-suite. They had a bathroom, which was not shared because they were one bedroom flats with just me living there.

SHE DOESN'T HAVE TO TELL YOU EVEN IF YOU SHOUT.

OK, well... I'm somewhat of an expert in this.
I once got out of a locked room that had no handle on it. The room was empty, apart from a suitcase with clothes, a wire coat hanger and a glass dildo.

So.. Errm.. Yeah. Creative approach.

Am I the only one who needs to know more about this scenario..?

Why are you so angry?

Goodness me.

Why are you so angry?

Goodness me.

Well you do sound very disbelieving to be honest.

If OP says she is stuck in a room, and ended up calling the fire brigade then that seems believable to me.

And a flat/house having no attached bathroom also seems very normal.

Onthesideofthespiders · 02/12/2024 13:06

HermioneWalker · 02/12/2024 12:48

Why are you so angry?

Goodness me.

Because you’re hounding people about the property when 1) not relevant and 2) bloody obvious. It shouldn’t need to be explained to
you. Work it out from the text.

Maybe some people like the drama of using the services, even when not necessary?
