Presumably you don't have a knife, scissors might work or just something that'll turn it

This happened to me abroad. Luckily I had a pair of scissors that I was able to insert and turn to open the door. The stupid handle wasn't screwed in properly and it fell out.

its currently 1am, im locked inside an airbnb in a foreign country, and my door handle came off, could use some help and advice. Tried watching videos to no avail, left a message for the airbnb guy, don’t think he speaks English if I called (airbnb translates our messages), trying to call air BnB. If anyone’s awake I could use some help

The firemen came and pushed the handle from the outside, I couldn’t have done anything from inside the room unfortunately, didn’t have the facilities for that! But I’m freed now, thank you all for helping;

I was going to wait it out for the morning but thank you for suggesting to call the fire department!

How does it work when you're abroad? And the fire brigade, did they speak English? I need to know more!! :)

I don’t understand. Surely, if you are locked in a room and it’s 1am, the front door to the whole place would also be locked. So, how did the fire department enter the premises in order to get you out of the room you were stuck in, inside the premises? Did they bash the front door down?

We’re in France. 112 is the European emergency number which is manned by English speakers who will stay online while connecting you to specific services such as police or fire etc.

Maybe, like other Air b n bs there is a keysafe outside. Maybe the OP doesn't need that key to lock from the inside just needs it to open the door.

Pleased you’ve been rescued. If I’d been on time I’d have suggested fire brigade. In the uk they won’t usually come if you’re locked out (you need a locksmith) but they will if you’re locked in because that could be dangerous.

I work for a fire & rescue service although not a firefighter myself. Can confirm they are usually physically fit but that does not always translate to hot. And about 20% of them (from memory) are women these days. Although that may not be the case in other countries - I spoke to a female firefighter who said in her home country women can’t be firefighters.
