arghhhhhhh

everyday this I speak to this man (in fact he is the husband of a good friend but also ).

he is a nice enough chap (ooh, get me sounding all posh), and at the moment is being fab as I have no car and he is helping with my school runs, so I cannot complain toooooo much, (or can I).

welllllllllllllll........

he talks to me, talks to DS2, speaks ABOUT DS2, says his name, and then laughs, all because he reckons he has a problem with speaking......well.....his problem isn;t any other words except JACOB, which for some reason he says as JACUM.....arghhh.

he is told by my son, and by me, repeatedly, that it is JACOB, he says sorry, and then says it sloooooowly, saying it with the B really obviously, and then in the next breath he gets it wrong AGAIN...

even my son, with his hands on his hips, tells him that he is wrong and that his name is Jacob, and no-one else gets it wrong (well, friends kiddies do but that is normal.....most of 'em can;t even say their own name's properly), but A GROWN MAN??????? >

if you see him that often then yes you are going to have to lump it, sorry!

I on the other hand can feel utterly justified in going off on one at both father and fil for being complete useless pillocks

dizzydixies · 29/04/2008 09:46

psycho is it not your name I loved on a names thread? I had to look it up? or am I so sleep deprived am loosing it today?!?

you can have rumplestiltskin if you have another one, I don't mind sharing

Psychomum5 · 29/04/2008 09:46

maybe tis a man thing then??

yup, pillocks is a FINE word

pmsl - what age is Jacob, can he not correct him? my dd1 is quite pointy when it comes to her name and I think would happily correct someone if they got it wrong - not in a cheeky manner just matter of fact

Psychomum5 · 29/04/2008 09:56

he is 5, and believe me, he gets cross about it too!!!

he stands there, hands on hips, and says "my name is JACOB".....really pronouncing the COB bit too!!!

my aunt will insist on calling him Jake, which also irritates, but then I have other issues with her so feel it clouds my judgment a little there.....plus, when he was born, we did say he was Jacob/JJ/ Jake, so don;t feel we have a leg to stand on (so to speak).....Jacob however will tell most people his name.....and he likes JACOB!

thats'a ma'boy....

It's not the most complex name, is it?

Mind you, my best mate still can't work out Samuel is not spelled Samule 9as if I'd name him after a donkey hybrid!), and although FIL has plenty of formula 1 history books he cannot spell Stirling either. Shameful isn't it? Long gave up LOL

Alderney · 29/04/2008 09:59

My MIL can't pronounce wither of my Elder Daughter's names...

She is called Poppy Charlotte..

Not hard....well it is for my MIL..

Poppy becomes Pope-y - like the guy who lives in the Vatican with an -y on the end.

Charlotte becomes CHAR-lot - like Char-lady rather than sharlotte which is how its pronounced even if its not spelled like that..

Drives me mad.

dizzydixies · 29/04/2008 10:02

good for him

JulesJules · 29/04/2008 10:10

Or yu could just give him a big slap

Psychomum5 · 29/04/2008 10:10

seems to be a lot of PIL's out there, (and DM's), that are lucky to still being able to use all their limbs.....

Psychomum5 · 29/04/2008 10:24

Soupdragon says "Most people have certain words/things they have a mental block with".

So true, she told me had booked her holiday to Ikea! last week, laughed at her mistake and then (unknowningly) corrected it with the same mistake.

Psychomum5 · 29/04/2008 10:31

don;t be reasonable....thats not fair.....I have mntal blocks on certain words too, and then correct them with the same wrong word.....BUT

it is a name and it is my son and I want to sob....

((where has soupdragon booked her hols then??))

OP posts:
K20 · 29/04/2008 10:33

Psychomum5 · 29/04/2008 10:35

Do you think he is doing it to tease your son? One of my DHs does this with my DS, I think he thinks he us being funny. Try ignoring him.

Psychomum5 · 29/04/2008 10:55

how many DH's have you got then????

I did wonder that, re-teasing, but he even says it when out of earshot of my son so I think he has got into a bad bad bad habit, or just enjoys winding ME up.

grrrrrr

bad man!!!!

My DH called his (now ex) work collegue Roger for 3 years. Fine but his name was Richard. For some reason DH has a thing about the name Roger. Anyone whose name starts with R who he is introduced to, he always calls and refers to as Roger by mistake Very odd.

bogie · 29/04/2008 11:09

yanbu
but he might not be able to say it properley I cant say specific not at all unless I stop and break it into 3 bits.
Dp thinks its very very funny but I can't help it I say serspific??? WTF but I have never been able to say it

Psychomum5 · 29/04/2008 11:09

is he an 'ex' collegue because he was always called the wrong name tho.

lol @ all R names being roger tho.....i mean....tis not exactly a 'decent' name is it.
