AIBU to think it would be an absolute disaster?

And what would it look like? WineHalo

In my house, there would be no decorations or 'special' food. But one or two presents would be very carefully chosen, and usually 'wrapped' in newspaper and manly (!) duct tape. With a tape bow. The extras would be down to me if I wanted them, but the care for each other would absolutely be there.

BiddyPop · 29/11/2024 13:12

If you want the anti-sexist thing, I am re-learning how to use an iron, as we each did our own until DD arrived, when DH couldn't feed her so took over all the ironing until I took an overseas job when she was 17 and have had to do my own again.

Since when?

Where have you been? LOL.

Very glad to hear of so many good boys out there. Grin

You're not to be diverted, are you?

You mock the men who aren't good at it, and patronise those that are. And you generally scoff at the women who say their husbands aren't incompetent.

So, really, you want replies on this thread only from women who agree with you.

Fiddlesticks32 · 28/11/2024 22:51

Because more often than not women are the ones who organise Christmas celebrations...

But that's nothing to do with your OP. You stated it would be a disaster if only men organised Christmas. The stats around what % of men do it at the moment have no relevance to how good/bad they are or would be.

Speckyfourfries · 29/11/2024 18:16

We would all get whatever shite is left in Tesco on Xmas eve at 4p.m... yes my husband got me gluten free pasta one year... I'm not gluten free but by the time he'd got to the supermarket on Xmas eve that's all he could find. 😑

mamajong · 29/11/2024 18:16

Nah, DH would be ok he can do a roast and isn't a terrible gift buyer. He 'might' leave it late to invite people and the table decorations wouldn't match (if there even were any) but there would be tonnes of roasties but probably not much veg. The booze pouring would be generous so everyone would be too pissed to care.

BlueEyedLeucy · 29/11/2024 18:17

Well my DH has done all his Christmas shopping and I’ve not started, so I think we’d do fine if it was left to him!

Corinthiana · 29/11/2024 18:20

I'm guessing some of these incompetent men hold down responsible jobs?
It's learned incompetence, isn't it?.

Bumblenums · 29/11/2024 18:20

My DH would leave it all till the last minute, but still pull off a magical Christmas- he works best under pressure 😂

OonaStubbs · 29/11/2024 18:24

Too many women make too big a deal of Christmas and it just escalates. Some men are useless and would make a pigs ear of it. Just go to the supermarket a week or two before Christmas, buy some gifts and some food and that's all.

It's voluntary martyrdom on behalf of women the majority of the time.

What's the problem with that?

Good point!

JoshLymanSwagger · 29/11/2024 18:38

Asking DH now...

Soup for starter (has a ring pull and he knows to tip it into a bowl and how to use the microwave).
Birds Eye or similar frozen Chicken Dinner (although that does mean he'll have to work out how to turn the oven on and where I keep the oven gloves).
Vienetta for pudding 🤢
Lashings of Beer.

Oh dear. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Honestlyhon · 29/11/2024 18:50

I can’t believe someone posted this.

And many women facilitate them.

Parker231 · 29/11/2024 18:58

And many women facilitate them.

True, which is so depressing. It's not funny if your husband can't do a supermarket shop, wrap a gift or switch on an oven.

Hateam · 29/11/2024 19:32

I don’t think it's learned incompetence.

It's often learned not to bother cause it won't be good enough anyway.

Corinthiana · 29/11/2024 19:37

So men won't bother to learn because they won't be good at something? How come so many drive?

NeelyOHara1 · 29/11/2024 19:39

An element of what passes for our economy would take a massive hit.

FixingStuff · 29/11/2024 19:41

I think my DH would have a stroke.

Hateam · 29/11/2024 18:31

100%. There's really no need to do half of the stuff people list as "essential" every year - it's crazy.

coffeesaveslives · 29/11/2024 19:48

Corinthiana · 29/11/2024 19:37

So men won't bother to learn because they won't be good at something? How come so many drive?

It's not really comparable - driving is pretty essential for most, spending hours and hours on Christmas "prep" is not.

There are multiple threads on here each year where men have done XYZ for Christmas and it's not good enough because it hasn't been done in the exact way the OP would have done it. It's bonkers.

Hateam · 29/11/2024 19:49

Corinthiana · 29/11/2024 19:37

So men won't bother to learn because they won't be good at something? How come so many drive?

No.
Because it won't be viewed as "good enough".

Different.
