To think that this week, as court decides what the legal definition of a woman is, that the Scottish Government (and others) aren't fit for purpose?

The meaning of what a woman is, is supposedly being hammered out in court this week.
How many of you know we are being reclassified this week?

"If the Supreme Court rules that a man can become a woman because he declares it to be so - and vice versa - then the sex-based protections provided by the Equality Act will become meaningless.
After all, how does one protect - or even begin to consider - the rights of women if to be a woman is nothing more than a feeling?"

YANBU - To think that this week, as court decides what the legal definition of a woman is, that the Scottish Government aren't fit for purpose and neither is anyone else in senior positions who can't understand why biology is important.

YABU - Gender identity is more important than the sex based rights of women. Woman is an idea and anyone can identify as one.

It's absolutely bonkers that a law was enacted that allows a male to have his birth certificate changed to say he's female. It needs to be repealed.

It's become very clear how damaging this bit of legal fiction has been to women and our safety, privacy, dignity and rights.

It's an understatement and a half, and that apparently intelligent(!) adults involved couldn't foresee the problems that could - and indeed have - arisen as a result of this nonsensical notion.

Surprised the resident 'you're all bigoted transphobes' haven't popped up yet.

@OhNotNow you do realise that women are working dismantling this shitshow price by piece, policy by policy, behind the scenes in a myriad of different ways including raising awareness. You do realise that women across all industries are working in fear because they will lose their jobs and have to find ways of communicating with each other across the culture of silence that has sprung up around this. You do realise that some of the women here are supporting children whose mental health has been messed up by this and that women are working in a hundred different ways every single day to counter the threats of gender ideology on the safety of women and children.

How dare you accuse any woman here of not doing enough despite saying you won't lift a finger yourself.
How lazy, accusatory and quite frankly, disrespectful and ill informed of what goes on behind the scenes whilst you wait for some big fireworks.

If not now, when. If not you, who? Instead of grumbling about women talking on her you could have written a letter to Amnesty for example. Why didn't you?

Also the hundreds of women writing to their MPs, their banks, etc, contributing to legal fee crowdfunds, writing on social and mainstream media comments, attending meetings, trying to influence their employers’ internal and public policies, leafleting and flyposting etc

Oh come now, we are talking about SNP MSPs. Not the brightest!

WandsOut · 26/11/2024 20:19

We haven't had much in the way of TRA Bingo yet but we have had a visitor who was cross we aren't throwing ourselves in front of horses though.

Maybe it was the chap on the other thread looking for Guardian Soulmates and he should have turned left at Albuquerque but accidentally found this thread instead.

Or maybe it is John Swinney hoping all us annoying lazy women will do something about it so he doesn't have to.

Noteworthy that what a "man" is has never been up for debate...

Good point. And solid evidence that genderism is part of the men’s rights movement.

No one argues about what a man is, because their identity is unassailable unless they choose to change it.

It's a man.

In law this man should always be a man, a piece of paper shouldn't make him legally female.

"I don’t think the founders of the SNP some of whom were women and some of whom were same sex attracted would be impressed if they could see the Scottish Government in court arguing for the subordination of women’s & lesbian rights to men who identify as women" - Joanna Cherry

OP posts:
WandsOut · 27/11/2024 07:38

Does the SNP expect us to accept that men can be lesbians? If so it is homophobic and you would expect Amnesty International would be outraged, shocked!
But no.

This insane men's rights movement has Amnesty as its bedfellow endorsing state sanctioned homophobia.

I wonder how many of the predominantly male judges are secretly getting their kicks by knowing how powerful they are.
Same old story.

Let's have another petition - vote everyone out of office who thinks men can become women, could reach 34 million in no time

AlisonDonut · 27/11/2024 21:15

That man is a lesbian because his certificate says so even though nobody is allowed to see the certificate but just believe him I mean her i mean on my goodness.

It's outrageous that the Scottish government are basically arguing the opposite of what they promised women before the GRR bill

I didn't see the deleted posts but I think they were along the lines of women not doing enough or maybe doing too much.

What I will say is thank you to the tireless women of Mumsnet who were posting on the FWR boards long before I found them about the issues that were addressed by the Supreme Court over the last couple of days.

A fine line has had to be trodden with challenging Talk Guidelines (the truth is hateful/ bigoted).

Many of the arguments and even phrases we've seen on Mumsnet were used by Counsel for FWS and other interested in the court submissions.

Whatever the outcome this has hit a point of no return. Women shouldn't have to fight tooth and nail for the right to be seen, in legal terms, as fully human. Yet here we are.

If you are a woman and still think you should 'be kind' consider the world you are leaving your daughters.

Noteworthy that what a "man" is has never been up for debate...

Actually it was referred to.

Noteworthy -

A trans man doesn't gain full rights as a man even with a GRC. So being a legal man doesn't allow 'him' to gain inheritance rights. A male sibling will still inherit first. The Gender Recognition Act specifically excluded this right.

A trans man with a GRC who has a baby is a legal man so does not have rights under UK maternity legislation as this only applies to women. A trans man gives up those rights when they become legal men.

So in a nutshell trans men do not gain full advantages. I would hazard a guess that this is because they are female.

MovingCrib · 28/11/2024 11:38

May I ask where this leaves Parkrun if FWS win?

lifeturnsonadime · 28/11/2024 11:40

Also abortion laws do not apply to trans men with a GRC because they are legal males.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 28/11/2024 11:44

May I ask where this leaves Parkrun if FWS win?

I don't think it would affect Parkrun as they are not relying on the Equality Act to provide a female only thing.

MrTiddlesTheCat · 28/11/2024 11:54

YANBU. The ramifications of this ruling will be enourmous for women.
