DH pancreatic lesion with symptoms

So we’re half way to our U.K. holiday break. This morning an appointment came through for my DH to see a consultant surgeon. This is an urgent appointment on the back of a recent MRI. It’s on Tuesday morning. He says he’s going to call them on Monday to rearrange it. My gut reaction is to head home and keep the appointment but he’s having none of it. He wants his holiday. I’m currently wide awake worrying about all this. What if he rings on Monday and can’t get a quick appointment? Should I try and persuade him that we should head home. What would be reasonable. I’m so very worried about him.

I'm afraid if its pancreatic cancer with symptoms showing, then in all likelihood that's it, end of the road in sight, outcomes are very poor.

I would enjoy the holiday, maybe contact the hospital and ask bluntly, what's the prognosis.

The OP has updated @YourAzureEagle

If caught early outcomes are very different and not all bad.

We are all thinking of you OP

mcmen05 · 27/11/2024 23:28

@Ebabllisstggoffor sorry to hear the bad news hopefully his treatment goes well
Hugs to you

vipersnest1 · 27/11/2024 23:31

Just to echo PPs, @Ebabllisstggoffor, the very fact that your DH has been offered a procedure means that there is everything to hope for.
My DDad died from pancreatic cancer, but his case was inoperable.
Don't lose hope. Flowers and a virtual hug for you.

FlippityFloppityFlump · 27/11/2024 23:44

I'm sorry op, such awful news for you both.

Jadebanditchillipepper · 27/11/2024 23:52

Just coming in to wish you both luck. Pancreatic cancer does have poor outcomes UNLESS it's operable. The fact that they're talking about a Whipple's procedure is really positive.

Anyway, wishing you both lots of luck

MuchuseasaChocolateTeapot · 28/11/2024 00:22

What a horrible scary time for your family. I think I read once that a Whipples procedure is only offered to around 10% of people diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer and it’s a very effective although lengthy surgery.

Let’s hope the endoscopy shows it’s not cancerous first x

LushLemonTart · 28/11/2024 00:25

How awful I'm so sorry. Hoping for a good outcome.

livanlaterlaterlater · 28/11/2024 00:38

Hi OP .My BIL has experienced the same urgency about a growth on his pancreas, he was referred to King's College, allocated a Macmillan nurse , wipples procedure was explained and BIL even met up with a previous patient.
Long story short , after more investigation involving endoscopy, pet scan , etc he was given the all clear

Sending positive thoughts and hopefully a good outcome. X🙏

ChessorBuckaroo · 28/11/2024 03:02

All the best to your DH with the surgery OP. Hope all goes well.

Destiny123 · 28/11/2024 05:23

I'm sorry. If you want the anaesthetic explaining I'm happy to. If you have the op at Kings im happy to provide a hug/get snacks/ drinks/ anything. All our surgeons n anaesthetists are lovely (similar for Guildford /Royal surrey I worked there a few yrs ago xx

RethinkingLife · 28/11/2024 05:29

I wish you and your DH well. If surgery is needed, I'll cross my fingers for a straightforward Whipple and a smooth and comfortable recovery afterwards.

EachandEveryone · 29/11/2024 09:43

I don’t know if you are near London or if this link will work https://www.instagram.com/reel/DC81Nq9qdg2/?igsh=NHpmanoxbWtpOWcz if it doesn’t google the Royal Free as it looks like there are afew trials going on.

I wish you all the best x

What’s wrong with you? I can’t get my head round why someone would post comments like this here.

The OP’s husband has had a lesion caught early and has been identified as a good candidate for surgery which is a positive sign.

What are all these stories about death and poor prognosis trying to achieve?

I am truly astounded by people.

BlondeFool · 29/11/2024 18:26

So many arseholes on this thread. It's actually unbelievable.

It's been caught early and he's been recommended for whipple surgery. Read the updates before posting doom and gloom.

@YourAzureEagle
You appear to be completely vile

@SurelyNotAnother

I totally agree! I tried to post something positive and someone shut me down telling me pancreatic cancer was different and basically that I was wrong to try to give hope. It’s almost as though people want the OP to feel as bad as humanly possible! It’s very weird !!

sharpclawedkitten · 30/11/2024 11:50

The op sounds quite involved but once it's done it's done and there's a very high chance indeed that he will be cancer-free. All the best.

Edited

People have heard that pancreatic cancer has poor outcomes but I googled the Whipple procedure and can see that although it's not something I'd be exactly happy about having to have (big op with a three month recovery period), it is highly effective and once recovered you get your life back.

Yeah please don't go with Google searches. It's really not that simple

EachandEveryone · 27/01/2025 11:46

How are things? I think about you often

Ebabllisstggoffor · 27/01/2025 12:07

He died after having the procedure.
