DH pancreatic lesion with symptoms

So we’re half way to our U.K. holiday break. This morning an appointment came through for my DH to see a consultant surgeon. This is an urgent appointment on the back of a recent MRI. It’s on Tuesday morning. He says he’s going to call them on Monday to rearrange it. My gut reaction is to head home and keep the appointment but he’s having none of it. He wants his holiday. I’m currently wide awake worrying about all this. What if he rings on Monday and can’t get a quick appointment? Should I try and persuade him that we should head home. What would be reasonable. I’m so very worried about him.

Sorry, OP. A scary time for you.

But I know someone that had early PC and the whipple procedure and she’s very well 2 years on and her outlook is good.

Hazelmaybe · 27/11/2024 20:06

Sending love, I know two people who had pancreatic cancer and both are still here ten years later, after surgical treatment. Some people do survive and it’s good they are offering surgery as an option x

Motherofdragons2024 · 27/11/2024 20:06

I’m so sorry OP what dreadful news for you and DH. Please don’t despair, people can and do survive this horrid disease. The fact they are talking about a whipple is good, most people with pancreatic cancer aren’t eligible for it. Wishing yous love.

Jabtastic · 27/11/2024 20:07

I'm very sorry to hear this but glad he got home for the appointment!

Motherofdragons2024 · 27/11/2024 20:09

Also are you in Scotland by any chance? Like I said up thread I work at the national Scottish pancreatic hospital and there’s only one man I would trust with my pancreas.

SurelyNotAnother · 27/11/2024 20:12

Some of the posts on here blow my mind with their insensitivity.

Sending hugs to you OP and your partner. Remember there is always hope. Whatever it is, it’s been caught early as it was found incidentally and ‘it’ is probably quite small still.

Good luck for the days ahead x

I was going to say the same. My friend is fine and fitter than me!

Wishing you both all the best 💐

I said exactly this OP. I don’t understand some people’s thought processes. I actually don’t believe they even think sadly 😥

LadyGabriella · 27/11/2024 20:31

Surely if they’re offering a whipples the prognosis is better. Good job you were on the appointment asap.

SophiaCohle · 27/11/2024 20:36

If this was an incidental finding, hopefully the prognosis will be better than some posters are suggesting. Wishing you and your DH well, OP. x

I was thinking this. I'm sure I've read that the reason the prognosis for PC is usually so bad is that it doesn't tend to show symptoms and then get discovered until quite late in
the game. Everything crossed for you OP.

I wish I could say what I really think but I don’t want to derail OP’s thread.

OP, if it helps, do pop back to this thread to share thoughts and worries if you wish. This place can be supportive too. No pressure obviously. Take care xx

EricTheGardener · 27/11/2024 20:40

I'm so sorry, you must be reeling. Such a terrible shock. Wishing you strength for the days and weeks ahead.

moggiek · 27/11/2024 20:40

motherofdragons2024 where is the national pancreatic hospital?

monkfruitmartini · 27/11/2024 20:53

Oh, OP. That is a lot to get your head around. But the upside is he has a sensible and supportive spouse beside him, and he is eligible for surgery. My ex left it too late to have his symptoms investigated. I am so sorry for what you are going through, and wishing you hope and courage.

pilates · 27/11/2024 21:19

Yes the fact it’s been found early is a good sign. I have a family member who was in exactly the same position. He had the operation and has been given the all clear.

TankFlyBossW4lk · 27/11/2024 21:35

Please make him go home and get to the appointment. Please

BoilingHotand50something · 27/11/2024 21:43

OP, so sorry to hear your update but it is good that surgery is an option.

I am shocked by some of the responses on here.

anon202420252026 · 27/11/2024 22:21

So sorry to read your update op.

DianaRiggsCatsuit · 27/11/2024 23:00

@Ebabllisstggoffor
So sorry to hear this news. He was wise to change his mind and attend the appointment. I hope his treatment goes well.

Vgbeat · 27/11/2024 23:03

I am sorry, wishing you both well and please feel free to chat if you need to xx

Sohereitissuddenly · 27/11/2024 23:09

I'm sorry to read your news. It's a lot to take in. I think if they're offering surgery then it is a good sign. Pc stats are bad because it's often picked up very late and the outcomes are worse the older you are. I lost my Dad to it.

If your DH is younger then hope this is also a positive sign. Sending love and strength. X

YourAzureEagle · 27/11/2024 23:17

monkfruitmartini · 24/11/2024 07:47

Pancreatic cancer - if that is what it is - is notorious for poor outcomes if not caught in time. Even then...

Pancreatic cancer is not breast cancer. He is a fool to put this appointment off, or in heavy denial.

I'm afraid if its pancreatic cancer with symptoms showing, then in all likelihood that's it, end of the road in sight, outcomes are very poor.

I would enjoy the holiday, maybe contact the hospital and ask bluntly, what's the prognosis.

SweetSakura · 27/11/2024 23:20

Please read the updates people! You can select to just read the op's updates.

Op- sending best wishes to you and your DH, glad you made the appointment

Normallynumb · 27/11/2024 23:24

I am sorry OP
The fact you have been given information on the whipple procedure may be a hopeful sign that it is treatable at least, massive surgery though it is.
