I have recently started seeing a wonderful man. He has asked me if I would like to go away for a weekend with him. A wonderful idea, as it means we can spend some time getting to know each other away from children etc... Except, I think he wants me to pay for the hotel - surely that is not right

His vagueness despite you trying to discuss it with him rings alarm bells for me.

Don't book it yourself whatever you do...perhaps he really is waiting to see if you want one room or two?

this seems to be causing a lot of anxiety

im thinking if you really like him and you both can afford it then it doesnt really matter who pays

so if you like him enough to go away with him then jsut book and when it comes to the dinner and drinks say teel you what to make things simple you pay for dinner as i paid for the hotel

if you want to see him again then it will all resolve itself over time

if you stay the night with him and then decide you dont want to ever see him again then possibly your judgememnt might have been a bit impaired but its not going to be a huge loss

Have not read responses. He asked, he books and pays. You find a nice restaurant and suggest going there for a nice dinner. You pay. You also whip out your credit card for any other incidentals, breakfast, local attractions. Whatever. “No. No I’ll pay, you paid for the hotel”. No awkwardness, generally fair. If someone asked me away for the weekend and suggested I find somewhere and book, and therefore pay, I would find that a massive turnoff.
