As our main political leader I find his manner very condescending & passive aggressive. Very upset watching this.. Video linked here. Care workers in Ireland have been let down very badly by our politicians

He doesn't have a clue. Can't believe he is now Taoiseach it's shameful how little he knows about anything. He was a good local guy in that he knows everyone in Greystones but Taoiseach - nah.

Imperiallanger · 22/11/2024 23:34

Isn't it a shocking clip. Exactly one week before the election, the women was obviously in distress & very upset. He was passive aggressive, condescending & walked off on her. Delighted RTÉ aired it & genuinely shocked too. RTE can be quite biased.
I wasn't planning on voting FG but I am sickened by our Taoiseach's treatment of this poor woman.

@spanieleyes22 I am genuinely shell shocked at how dismissive & condescending he was. Bet he didn't think RTE would air it. It's gone viral. All the comments under the video on FB & insta are condemning him for his lack of compassion towards this woman & his party for their disregard of carers. So angry right now.
Not my Taoiseach.

Complete lack of empathy. Pure disgrace.

I found his complete lack of empathy towards college students during the pandemic really shit. He was their minister and he was patronising towards them. I had kind of put it to one side since he became Taoiseach but that is definitely another example of that part of his character. It has come up before.

He just walked off on her absolutely proving the woman's point that carers are completely ignored.
He was very poor & also passive aggressive on the leaders debate last Monday, the cracks were starting to show & that video could break him. Terrible optics for him as Taoiseach & Fine Gael as a party.

Do you remember when he was Minister for Health🙈

I try to block that out, it was a weird time so I’d allow him that health being the poison chalice and all that but when he stepped back from health to higher education I thought he lacked any understanding to what late teens early twenty somethings were going through at that time. Zero empathy for them.

As I understand he didn't go to college himself, he went straight into politics? Am I correct in thinking this? Strange of FG to post a man who hasn't gone through the higher education system himself with a role as Minister for higher education..
Again like posting Catherine Zappone & Roderic O Gorman but childless as Minister for Children..

I think Higher Education in Ireland improved in many ways on his watch. Higher Education wasn’t a separate department before he took it over.
Initiatives like extra places in many higher demand courses have made a big difference to school leaves and the setting up of regional universities allowing more people to live at home while studying has really helped families trying to pay for education.
I was surprised and pleased when I saw that the new places in veterinary medicine were in the new regional universities.

@ChimneyPot what do you make of his treatment of that poor woman tonight?

So patronising and disrespectful, you could hear in that woman's voice that she was struggling and he can't even pretend to care. Awful.

He was so cold & unemotional. Then walked back at her passive aggressively before walking off on her. As much as I dislike Michael Martin he would have handled it very differently. I can imagine Mary Lou or Peadar Toibin also being sympathetic & compassionate.
The way he completely invalidated her feelings is despicable. It will cost him.

He didn’t handle that well. There were a few small things for carers in the budget but the means test for carers allowance wasn’t abolished, which is what a lot of people wanted. The limits are higher now so more people will qualify but it’s not enough really. The Carers Support Grant increased a little.

Pension rights for carers have improved recently on Heather Humphrey’s watch.

Financial hardship is much higher amongst both disabled people and their carers. The cost of living increases have had a huge impact.

You would hope that having grown up with a brother with autism he would be somewhat attuned to disability. Maybe he is better than some of the others? I don’t know. But he didn’t handle that well, that’s for sure.

Imperiallanger · 23/11/2024 17:41

@Anothermathstest Simon Harris has forgetten his place. We the people employ him, he works for us. We reward him through votes for service (& through our taxpayers money!) well done to that strong lady for reminding him exactly who he works for!

He didn't handle it well at all but I don't think anyone would come across well when someone challenges them like that with the cameras rolling in their face. She was trying to openly humiliate him. What could he say really? There was no appropriate answer. Would it be worse if he lied to her? Or nodded along and made all the right noises but did nothing. She was 100% correct, carers are treated like shit in Ireland and I don't blame her for her anger, I'd be angry too. I just wish a government, any government, would actually do something about it. Whether they talk the talk when canvassing isn't really the big issue.

I like Gripts account of his despicable behaviour. Simon Harris's mask slipped big time & hopefully he will get what he deserves & gets the boot on Friday.
Between his (& Fine Gaels) firm belief in Gender Ideology & that men can be woman on top of his contempt towards this woman he is no friend of females. Vote them out!!!!

The bad Harris moment that could up-end the election - Gript

We've all just learned something new about the Taoiseach - and it isn't good for him.

I don't think Martin would have handled it any better. He has a manner of sounding deeply offended when anyone criticises him, or asks him a question.

But he would have the self awareness to know he was being filmed & I think he'd act accordingly .. He's brutal also. Very glad I have Aontú to vote for. Peadar Toibín would never have been so ignorant..
Harris is Taoiseach in name only. That video has gone viral globally, what an embarrassment for Ireland. And people cribb about Trumps behaviour, Harris is no better...

Aontú at least are extremely gender critical & want the Gender Recognition Act reversed. I'm a single issue voter who is shocked at how captured the main parties are with gender identity so I am delighted to have Aontú to vote for. This quote from RTE sums it up!

Why? Trump treats people who challenge him with similar distain to the way Simon Harris treated that poor woman.
No wonder FF, FG, SD, PBP & Labour want a hate speech Bill passed at all costs as they want to police speech & tell people what to think just as Simon did so ineloquently in that video which has gone viral globally. They don't want anyone speaking out.
Fair fucks to RTE for sharing it especially if it costs FG the election or at the very least stops a few FG TDs getting seats 😂
