Increasingly worried about attack from Russia.

AIBU and it's just media scare mongering?

Yabu.

RobertaFirmino · 19/11/2024 23:37

There's always someone waving their willy. 80 years ago, it was Hitler, 40 years ago, it was the IRA, 20 years ago, it was Bin Liner, now it's Mad Vlad. In 2044, it will be some other megalomaniac.

Remember this: Putin cries when he opens the biscuit tin at the Kremlin and discovers Medvedev has eaten all the chocolate hobnobs.

saltinesandcoffeecups · 19/11/2024 23:38

Is this a different worry than the WWIII worry thread from earlier?

Irishdragon · 19/11/2024 23:40

@RobertaFirmino your post is hilarious 🤣 you should work at the Kremlin and cheer them all up !

Thedogscollar · 19/11/2024 23:40

This has all happened before and we're all still here worrying about the next time.
Just live.

Blueeyedmale · 19/11/2024 23:41

You are completely being unreasonable these stupid threats from Russia and designed to scare people it's all bluster.he just wants to stop all support for Ukraine so he can take complete control of it.we should remember it was Russia who invaded Ukraine not the other way around

GrazingLamb · 19/11/2024 23:42

Putin has revised the nuclear doctrine first revealed in September. It now declares that a massive aerial attack against Russia could trigger a nuclear response. The uk govt has condemned this as depraved.

This sums it up nicely.

pl228 · 19/11/2024 23:46

Either way, you can't do anything about it. It's completely outside your control so it's best not to think about it.

WinterMorn · 19/11/2024 23:46

Please stop with these scaremongering posts that whip up panic. It’s doing Putin’s work for him.

thingymijigi · 19/11/2024 23:49

As far as I understand, they are already talking about a diplomatic solution. However it will ramp up short term as both Russia and Ukraine want to be in the best negotiating position in advance.

Wahoobafoo · 19/11/2024 23:59

No

Not worth worrying about as a regular person. Just live your life.

thestudio · 20/11/2024 00:36

80 years ago, it was Hitler,

@RobertaFirmino Erm, that turned out to be a bit more than tears in a biscuit tin.

thestudio · 20/11/2024 00:39

And... all the appeasers (aka @thingymijigi's 'diplomatic solution') enabled Hitler to get pretty close to taking over the whole of Europe. It was America who were the nick-of-time cavalry then; this time.. well.

crumblingschools · 20/11/2024 00:40

@RobertaFirmino Hitler waving his willy did end up with a World War

Notcontent · 20/11/2024 00:42

I am afraid I have had some terrible intrusive thoughts about this today. Feeling a little panicky.

Nogaxeh · 20/11/2024 00:47

Worth remembering that Putin has already used chemical weapons in Britain - in Salisbury. And radioactive polonium was used to assassinate a Russian dissident in London. The country has been attacked already - but future attacks are unlikely to take the form of cruise missiles slamming into power stations.

A couple of internet cables have been cut in the Baltic Sea - possibly by a Chinese ship, and Russian ships regularly loiter around undersea cables near Britain. They might try to cut internet cables, or the electricity cables that allow Britain to import electricity from the continent. This would be something where it would be easier for them to try to deny responsibility than missiles

We'll only deter Russia from these sorts of attacks if we can credibly convince them that they will suffer if they do so. Part of that means not panicking in the face of threats. So, keep calm and carry on.

TheHardestWalk · 20/11/2024 00:49

What ever one thinks of Biden’s decision (for the record I think it is wrong for a man who is now in an essentially caretaker role to have done this and if it is what he wanted he should have done so earlier in his presidency) I don’t see how people can argue this does not ratchet up the tension and increase the likely hood of a world war breaking out against a power with nuclear weapons. And if Putin is a unstable and evil as people argue that should worry us all.

Jennysi · 20/11/2024 00:49

Russia have been waging techno war on us for years. Some of your dear opinions may be down tho their warfare.

Balloonhearts · 20/11/2024 00:49

Russia are not going to attack us. If they attack us, America, France and Google knows who else retaliate on our behalf. Russia becomes a big smoking hole in the map. Yeah, they could potentially take us out but they still lose.

They're getting all ragey over Ukraine not just rolling over for them so they feel the need to whip it out and measure it. Its all posturing.

ConstanceM · 20/11/2024 00:52

Chill. Some of the most powerful Russian Oligarch kids, wives, mistresses live and shop in London. Unless they want to eviscerate their own kids, it ain't gonna happen.

Meadowfinch · 20/11/2024 00:54

It's pointless sabre rattling.

As a pp said there's always some prat waving his willy. Take no notice of him.

ThreeDoorsDown · 20/11/2024 01:26

Worrying is like a rocking horse. It gives you something to do, but it gets you nowhere.
I refuse to live my life in fear of these men waving their willies about. We can do nothing about it. Live your life, make sure your loved ones know you love them. If we all get vapourised then it isn’t like we can all come on here afterwards saying how awful it was, so why worry now?
Up yours willy waving wankers! We are not afraid.
