To be so looking forward to how Beth will kill Jamie

I am really sad Costner didn’t come back for the second half of S5.
But oh I am so looking forward to watch what Beth will do to Jamie and to wipe the smug look off Sarah’s face.

I know they’re just characters but I am loving the last few episodes so far.

I’m hoping for a cataclysmic final battle that accidentally takes out Jamie’s baby mama, then in a moment where Jamie and Beth are both at risk of imminent death, he self-sacrifices to save her as an acknowledgment of all the wrong he’s done and then Beth and Rip raise his son as their own thus bringing the “Jamie stole Beth and Rip’s baby from them” storyline to a satisfying close.

Ohh that’s a good one 🍿

I'd really like to see Rip do it though...

I'd pay for a front row seat.

I think it could all go a bit Greek and they might just all end up dead on the grounds of the Ranch as it burns up in smoke.

Oh so would I.

But I feel a bit sorry for Jamie…. Am I wrong?

yes he’s weak. But he lost his adopted mum, Beth asked him for help, he panicked and made a bad decision and he was only 17 and the US abortion laws have a lot to answer for over that. He wanted to run the ranch like Lee but was send to Harvard instead. He out went against his Dad because of the way he was treated 🤷🏼‍♀️

I think if he didn’t come across so evil with it, almost like he was happy he sterilised her by accident! Then I would agree with you. But he treated John like crap after all he did for him 😢

But that thing he is sleeping with needs to die.

I've never passionately hated any TV character as much as I hate Jamie.

And increasingly his evil fancy woman.

If he turns nice at the end and self sacrifices somehow it will only make me hate him more.

Actually what would be best is if he got locked up in a tiny prison cell for the rest of his life to live with his odious self until around age 100. And maybe daily visits from Beth.

I’m so cross at Kevin Kostner. I know there was a fall out. But I feel we slightly owed it to fans to finish the last few episodes

I don't think it was KCs fault, he waited and waited then had other commitments and crews depending on him to start those projects afaik

CheekyHobson · 19/11/2024 15:21

Beth asked him for help, he panicked and made a bad decision

I might rewatch that scene but I didn’t get the impression he panicked, more that he didn’t see the condition coming, saw it as an opportunity to stop his sister who was already pretty erratic from having kids. It seemed very deliberate.

That is exactly what I remember from that episode.
He is a psycho! Like his real father, who he favoured over John at one point!

I would LOVE it if we saw Beth’s ability to let Rip occasionally lead culminate in her standing back and letting him finish Jamie off. With her watching and indeed the last thing he sees. I think that would be a brilliant ending. Ultimate show of partnership, ultimate ‘fuck you’ to Jamie and the hurt he caused with the sterilisation above all else.

Same. I don't see him as evil. He was young when he did that awful thing to Beth.

All Jamie wanted was to be loved.

And even after washing my mouth out I'd rather see Kacey dead than Jamie. Or Rainbow (or whatever her name is) or Moanica!

Beth, Rip and Teeter(?) are my favourites. And I can't tell the 2 dark haired handsome ranch hands apart. One plays guitar and the other doesn't.

CheekyHobson · 19/11/2024 22:03

One plays guitar and the other doesn't.

Walker plays guitar and Ryan doesn't. TBH can't understand how you can mix them up, they look completely different to me!

I am not sure what the intended interpretation (by the writer/s) of that was supposed to be.

It's really unclear.

Did he not fully understand?

Did he understand but think if Beth didn't want this baby, she wouldn't want kids in future either?

Did he not really think it through in his eagerness to solve the problem without it being known about? Just "solve this problem asap, I ain't got time to think about anything else".

I don't really get his motivation in sterilising Beth .... Is he supposed to have secretly hated her so it was a way to get at her? Their relationship didn't seem that bad back then (?) If it had been that bad, why wouldn't she have asked her other older brother to help her, instead of him?
Are we supposed to think he hated her but she didn't realise?

Inheritance wise, she'd probably have gotten her fourth, no matter whether she has kids or not. He still wasn't getting her quarter so .... (?)

Well to be fair I do have faceblindness, so that doesn't help! ;)

DamselinDistress24 · 19/11/2024 22:23

In any case, the plot point is ridiculous because even then, no clinician is going to sterilise a young woman without making sure she understands what will happen and getting her consent, the patient's consent not her brother's/possibly thought to be bf's.

On top of that, the sterilisation would just have been a tubal ligation; not a hysterectomy. And so she could still have had her own kids bit would had to have IVF.

No clinic would ever be doing hysterectomies unnecessarily - when tubal ligation would do the job.
More cost, time, patient risk, recovery period etc. etc. It makes no sense at all, it's a really weak plot point.

The writer doesn't seem to know how to write women (Beth is nearly a caricature) and doesn't appear to know basics about "women's" procedures.

Either that or just ignores really basic facts to create plot points.
Ridiculous plot points.

DamselinDistress24 · 19/11/2024 22:24

Moanica

Lol.

It's not her fault, is it though. It's the storylines she's been given.

Does anyone else fail to understand Walker's (apparent) attraction.

The laydeez always seem to be eyeing him up and jumping on his *#+k ...... Meanwhile I'm like "he's skinny, small bodied, his face is not masculine, and his accent is extreme & not particularly attractive .....wtf?"

TheLemonFatball · 19/11/2024 22:31

Struggling without Kevin but Rip will carry the season I think. Rip reminds me of my husband so much but must admit I've also got a wee crush on Walker 🤤

My boyfriend looks a lot like Walker so I definitely get it!

I have always liked wiry guys rather than beefy ones, I love a pair of pretty eyes and talent goes a long way :-)

I think he was taking a very paternalistic view of thinking he could decide what was "best" for her given that she had clearly spun out after her mother's death (and from being treated so poorly by her mum before then). Jamie is incredibly arrogant, he thinks he's better than everyone else, yet at the same time craves their approval.

Being closer in age to Beth, he was probably more the natural person for her to go to instead of Lee. Given that Lee was already being trained up to run the ranch as the oldest son, she might have thought he was more likely to tell their Dad.

Thesebloominhorses · 19/11/2024 22:47

@CheekyHobson that’s exactly how I interpreted it.

Also have a massive crush on Ryan Bingham who plays Walker. I too love wirey looking guys. I love his music too. Swoooon

That seems like an insightful interpretation.

True (re. her eldest brother).

Still doesn't make any sense whatsoever that an abortion & sterilisation clinic would be doing hysterectomies (unless as an emergency life saving procedure if something went disastrously wrong or something, and that wasn't said in the plot (?)).

Still doesn't make any sense that Beth as the patient wouldn't have had anything explained to her by a clinician and her consent established.

Like they'd permanently, irrevocably steriliser a teenager and not question it.
Even now, I've seen young women in the US and here who have decided they don't want to have kids and have requested sterilisation, say they've been repeatedly turned down by clinicians, and told maybe when they're older.

Also is Jamie supposed to have believed Beth would never ever tell anyone - including Rip and her Dad what happened; surely Jamie wasn't stupid enough to believe it would never come out, as Beth got older/got married etc and never had kids. He's not supposed to be dumb.

What the ....?

Oh well, more chunky, masculine ones for the rest of us.
